The process of using one image to guide the filtering process of another one is called Guided Image Filtering (GIF). The main challenge of GIF is the structure inconsistency between the guidance image and the target image. Besides, noise in the target image is also a challenging issue especially when it is heavy. In this paper, we propose a general framework for Robust Guided Image Filtering (RGIF), which contains a data term and a smoothness term, to solve the two issues mentioned above. The data term makes our model simultaneously denoise the target image and perform GIF which is robust against the heavy noise. The smoothness term is able to make use of the property of both the guidance image and the target image which is robust against the structure inconsistency. While the resulting model is highly non-convex, it can be solved through the proposed Iteratively Re-weighted Least Squares (IRLS) in an efficient manner. For challenging applications such as guided depth map upsampling, we further develop a data-driven parameter optimization scheme to properly determine the parameter in our model. This optimization scheme can help to preserve small structures and sharp depth edges even for a large upsampling factor (8× for example). Moreover, the specially designed structure of the data term and the smoothness term makes our model perform well in edge-preserving smoothing for single-image tasks (i.e., the guidance image is the target image itself). It performs well in several challenging applications in avoiding halos, gradient reversals and properly preserving edges with noise/texture being well smoothed. Through extensive experimental results, we show that the proposed RGIF can have promising performance in many applications such as guided depth map upsampling, flash/no flash filtering, detail enhancement, HDR tone mapping, structure smoothing and clip-art JPEG compression artifact removal. Owing to the unique technological merits of additive manufacturing (AM), design for AM, particularly eco-design for AM, has been gaining attention in improving the sustainable performance of AM-fabricated (AMed) parts. The main challenge in harvesting potential sustainability benefits is how to capture the impact of design on sustainable performance. Though several existing studies adopted quantitative evaluation on AM sustainability and investigated the relationships between design information and sustainability information of AMed part, the sustainability information is still unavailable in the design phase. This hardly guides eco-design for AM in practice. To support the increasing industrial applications of AM, this paper illustrates related knowledge, that is, material-process-structure-ecoProperty (MPSeP) relationships to connect design and sustainability information in eco-design for AM. An ontology-based method is proposed to model the MPSeP relationships of the AMed part in a structured way. An example of an AMed hydraulic valve body was used to demonstrate the MPSeP modeling process. It is discussed that how the constructed model effectively assists AM designers through providing eco-design recommendation, and enables design software tools to perform sustainability analysis towards eco-design for AM.

In the paper IM torque control is studied as an example of non-holonomic system with drift terms. Following the famous Brockett integrator problem several control propositions are introduced. The paper extends the control scheme from the state to the output control in several steps. By introducing adjusted amplitude, frequency and phase modulation of the IM stator current vector, the rotor flux linkage vector is implicitly forced to generate required periodic orbits that satisfy nonholonomic constraint. Improvements in the transient feedback performance, maximal steady-state efficiency, avoidance of singularities and sufficient robustness are actually achieved by making the current modulation dependent from the torque error signal. In the contrast with the original work instead of global only local stability could be assured. Simulation and experimental results illustrate main characteristics of the proposed control

In the Doppler biological radar-based applications of noncontact measurement of vital signs, effectively extracting heartbeat information from weak thoracic mechanical motion is an important problem to be solved. This study is aimed at extracting heartbeat signal via the technology combined with Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT), Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and Adaptive Noise Canceller (ANC) from radar recording. The simulated data and the data collected by Doppler radar biosensor realized in laboratory are employed to validate the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method has the ability of detection for the heart rate and heart rate variability indexes in rest state, it has certain advantages in time-consuming and detection accuracy. Therefore, the current method provides another way to process vital sign signals recorded by Doppler radar.

Based on the analysis of energy structure and the development trends of advanced nuclear energy technology, combining the complementary advantages of nuclear energy and other energy sources in China, the Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature reactor(FuSTAR) system has been proposed. FuSTAR system is designed to address production capacity issues in areas with energy shortages or resource concentration and can be combined with high-temperature process heat to achieve high-value-added processes such as hydrogen production. In this paper, the design and optimization processes of FuSTAR are described from three aspects: the neutronic and thermal-hydraulic system, the thermal transport system, and the power cycle system. Tri-structural isotropic fuel combined with helical cruciform elements has been studied in detail on the neutron physics and thermal-hydraulic properties, and the flow and heat transfer experiment is carried out for the first time. The multilayer nonlinear programming method has been applied to the design of thermal transport systems and the passive residual heat removal system and proved to be fast and efficient. Then the optimal parameters and configuration of the thermoelectric conversion system are obtained directly by using the superstructure optimization method, which saves computing resources greatly. Based on the above design and parameters, the inherent safety of FuSTAR is demonstrated through deterministic safety analysis. In addition, the iodine-sulfur cycle technology is also designed and analyzed, and the characteristics of tritium production in FuSTAR are calculated. The research provides important guidance for the detailed design and operation of FuSTAR. Moreover, this study highlights the significant potential of integrating nuclear energy with other energy sources in an optimized energy-production system. Stability and energetics of two-dimensional surface crystals in liquid AuSi thin films and nanoscale droplets

We employ atomic-scale computational frameworks to study the surface crystallization in AuSi films and droplets as a function of composition, temperature, and size. Above the melting point, the surfaces of both thin films and droplets undergo a first-order transition from a two-dimensional (2D) Au2Si crystalline phase to a laterally disordered yet stratified layer. The thin film surfaces exhibit an effective surface tension that increases with temperature and decreases with Si concentration, while for droplets in the size range 10–30 nm, the bulk Laplace pressure alters the surface segregation as it occurs with respect to a strained bulk. Above the transition, the size effect on the surface tension due to the stratified surface layer is small, while the crystalline surface layer below the transition is strained and composed of 2D crystallites separated by extended grain boundary scars that lead to large fluctuations in its energetics. As a specific application, all-atom simulations of AuSi droplets on Si(111) substrate subject to Si surface flux show that the supersaturation dependent surface tension destabilizes the contact line via formation of a precursor wetting film on the solid-vapor interface and has ramifications for size selection during droplet-catalyzed routes for nanowire growth. Our study sheds light on the interplay between stability and energetics of surfaces in this unique class of binary alloys and offers pathways for exploiting their surface structure for varied applications such as catalytic nanocrystal growth, dealloying, and polymer crystallization.

With the development of electronic equipment integration technology, the air demand for cooling in cabin and electronic system is increasing continuously. The ram air outlet plays an important role in the airflow system. In this paper, the three-dimensional modeling of the door-type ram air outlet and the grille-type ram air outlet is carried out. Then, the flow characteristics and resistance characteristics of ram air outlet are analyzed based on structured grid technology. The results show that the flow rate of the door panel ram air outlet is greater than that of the grille-type ram air outlet in the same size, the discharge rate of the door panel outlet is 0.3kg/s more than that of the grille-type outlet under the design condition, and the skin surface temperature at the back of the door panel outlet is 13.5K lower than that of the grille outlet. Therefore, the door-type ram air outlet has better emission characteristics and flow characteristics, which is more suitable for the aircraft in this research. This study provides a technical reference for the design of the civil aircraft.

Correcting Climate Model Sea Surface Temperature Simulations with Generative Adversarial Networks:Climatology,Interannual Variability,and Extremes

Climate models are vital for understanding and projecting global climate change and its associated ***,these models suffer from biases that limit their accuracy in historical simulations and the trustworthiness of future *** these challenges requires addressing internal variability,hindering the direct alignment between model simulations and observations,and thwarting conventional supervised learning ***,we employ an unsupervised Cycle-consistent Generative Adversarial Network(CycleGAN),to correct daily Sea Surface Temperature(SST)simulations from the Community Earth system Model 2(CESM2).Our results reveal that the CycleGAN not only corrects climatological biases but also improves the simulation of major dynamic modes including the El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and the Indian Ocean Dipole mode,as well as SST ***,it substantially corrects climatological SST biases,decreasing the globally averaged Root-Mean-Square Error(RMSE)by 58%.Intriguingly,the CycleGAN effectively addresses the well-known excessive westward bias in ENSO SST anomalies,a common issue in climate models that traditional methods,like quantile mapping,struggle to ***,it substantially improves the simulation of SST extremes,raising the pattern correlation coefficient(PCC)from 0.56 to 0.88 and lowering the RMSE from 0.5 to *** enhancement is attributed to better representations of interannual,intraseasonal,and synoptic scales *** study offers a novel approach to correct global SST simulations and underscores its effectiveness across different time scales and primary dynamical modes.

In order to verify the correctness of PLC programs by formal methods, the definition of denotational semantics on PLC program language was studied to achieve PLC programs modeling and model checking. Based on the extended λ-calculus definition, the configuration of PLC program architecture, denotational semantics of PLC programs and functions of denotational semantics were defined, which proves the basis of model checking and theorem.
