Applying multi-scale simulations to materials research of nuclear fuels:A review

Computational simulation is an important technical means in research of nuclear fuel *** nuclear fuel issues are inherently multi-scopic,it is imperative to study them with multi-scale simulation *** present,the development of multi-scale simulation for nuclear fuel materials calls for a more systematic approach,in which lies the main purpose of this *** most important thing in multi-scale simulation is to accurately formulate the goals to be achieved and the types of methods to be *** this regard,we first summarize the basic principles and applicability of the simulation methods which are commonly used in nuclear fuel research and are based on different scales ranging from micro to macro,***-Principles(FP),Molecular Dynamics(MD),Kinetic Monte Carlo(KMC),Phase Field(PF),Rate Theory(RT),and Finite Element Method(FEM).And then we discuss the major material issues in this field,also ranging from micro-scale to macro-scale and covering both pellets and claddings,with emphasis on what simulation method would be most suitable for solving each of the ***,we give our prospective analysis and understanding about the feasible ways of multi-scale integration and relevant handicaps and challenges.

YBa_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-x)(YBCO)is a kind of high-temperature superconducting material that has important application in information,energy,medical treatment,etc.,and the superconducting properties of YBCO are closely related to its internal *** this study,the microwave heating method was adopted to prepare the YBCO *** internal 3 D online evolution observation based on the synchrotron radiation computed tomography technology shows that there was directional grain growth phenomenon of YBCO during microwave sintering *** local regions with special microstructure,these particles grew to the same ***,the theoretical models of single and multiple particles in the microwave electromagnetic fields were *** on these theoretical models and finite element analysis,it shows that the YBCO particles can modulate the distribution of electromagnetic fields,resulting in the significantly higher electric field intensity at the particle junctions than other ***,there were very high electric field intensity and temperature gradients in the directions of particle *** factors were crucial in directional *** results will provide theoretical basis and technical guidance for the controllable preparation and performance optimization of the internal microstructure of superconducting materials in the preparation process.

Nuclear reactor computing software need to process and maintain complex and massive data sets. In order to meet the requirement of mass data storage and processing in software, the data storage model and I/O method and programming interface of HDF5 (Hierarchical Data Format v5) are deeply studied. According to the data storage and processing requirement of typical nuclear reactor computing data such as assembly or core neutronics computing data and core thermal-hydraulic computing data, RCDF-H5 (reactor Compute Data Framework based on HDF5) is proposed. KYMRES (KYlin-2 Main RESults databank) and COMRES (COre Main RESults databank) are designed and implemented based on RCDF-H5. The performance tests show that RCDF-H5 has a higher I/O efficiency than conventional storage solutions. A new data storage and management solution for nuclear reactor computing software is provided. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

With the mass construction of Gen III nuclear reactors, it is a popular trend to use deep learning (DL) techniques for fast and effective diagnosis of possible anomalies to ensure the safety of reactor systems under accidents. To improve the robustness of diagnostic model to crippled and noisy monitoring data, and to enhance the interpretability of the diagnostic outputs, this paper focuses on three aspects. First, a novel Denoising Padded Autoencoder (DPAE) model is proposed for representation extraction of monitoring data, and such representation extractor is effective on disturbed data with signal-to-noise ratios up to 25.0 and monitoring data missing up to 40.0%. Secondly, a diagnostic paradigm using DPAE encoder followed by shallow statistical learning algorithms is proposed, and such stepwise diagnostic approach is tested on disturbed datasets with 41.8% and 80.8% higher classification and regression task evaluation metrics, in comparison with the end-to-end diagnostic approaches. Finally, a hierarchical interpretation algorithm using SHAP and feature ablation is presented to analyze the importance of the input monitoring parameters and validate the effectiveness of the high importance parameters. The results of this study inform the development of robust, interpretable, intelligent reactor anomaly diagnosis systems in situations with high safety requirements. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. An any cell to any cell equalization circuit, which is based on switched capacitors and energy bus, is proposed in this paper. In this equalization topology, any high voltage cell can directly transfer the power to any low voltage cell through energy bus. With the increasing miniaturisation and integration of circuit boards, the topology proposed in this paper reduces the size of the circuit by varying the capacitance and frequency in order to further reduce the area and weight of the circuit. At the same time compared with the equalization circuit using transformers or inductance devices, this circuit has the characteristics of low cost, low-weight, small-size, easy integration and simple control scheme and it is suitable for applictions such as aerospace and unmanned aerial vehicles. Wrapped wire is widely used in new reactor core design. Simulation with traditional body fitted grid needs a large number of grids, which requires more computing resources. By optimizing the basic mathematical model of momentum source method, simulation of wire wrapped rod bundle with arbitrary wire shape can be carried out. By simulating the experimental data of 3 wire wrapped rod bundle, the model adaptability of momentum source method and mesh sensitivity analysis are carried out. Then optimized momentum source method and original momentum source method are compared based on simulation of supercritical carbon dioxide flow and heat transfer in wire wrapped rod bundle with different wire shapes. Through comparison with body fitted grid, the improvement of accuracy of optimized momentum source model can be proved. In conclusion, optimized momentum source method can greatly save the computational resources and calculated results is more accurate than original momentum source method. © 2023, The Authors. Study on flow modes of open natural circulation with low height difference under low power conditions

Open natural circulation systems are widely applied in the field of energy and chemical industries. Under some special conditions, open natural circulation systems with low height difference need to be applied, but research on this type of systems is not sufficient. In this paper, the flow modes of sucha natural circulation system were experimentally studied at low power level by adopting steam heating. In addition, the flow modes and physical phenomena of the natural circulation system were analyzed in detail under different heating power conditions. It is found that there are four flow modes at different power levels in the natural circulation system due to the influence of non-condensable gas and subcooled boiling. The inlet and outlet temperatures of heating section are analyzed in different flow modes. The result shows that the outlet temperature of heating section can be used as a judgment criterion for different flow modes. © 2019

In order to increase the accuracy of turbulence field reconstruction,this paper combines experimental observation and numerical simulation to develop and establish a data assimilation framework,and apply it to the study of S809 low-speed and high-angle airfoil *** method is based on the ensemble transform Kalman filter(ETKF)algorithm,which improves the disturbance strategy of the ensemble members and enhances the richness of the initial members by screening high flow field sensitivity constants,increasing the constant disturbance dimensions and designing a fine disturbance *** results show that the pressure distribution on the airfoil surface after assimilation is closer to the experimental value than that of the standard Spalart-Allmaras(S-A)*** separated vortex estimated by filtering is fuller,and the eddy viscosity field information is more abundant,which is physically consistent with the observation ***,the data assimilation method based on the improved ensemble strategy can more accurately and effectively describe complex turbulence phenomena.

In the field of railway transportation, with the continuous improvement of train running speed and the continuous increase of operating mileage, it becomes particularly important to ensure the safety and integrity of small-Target infrastructure along the railway train. Although many small-Target detection methods have been proposed, the research on small-Target infrastructure detection along rail trains is very rare. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a small-Target infrastructure detection network with spatial tracking and multi-level feature extraction based on Yolov8n. The experimental results show that ST-YOLO has a 3.6% mAP improvement on the OSDaR23 dataset compared to the baseline Yolov8n, and shows significant advantages over other state-of-The-Art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Large-area flexible roll-out solar array system has huge application potential in space structure especially for the Space Solar Power system (SSPS) due to the advantages of the lightweight, high area to mass ratio, excellent folding and deployable capabilities. For SSPS to operate economically, solar array system must operate at power levels greater than MW, while the commercial SSPS should operate at power levels no less than GW. Therefore, advanced flexible solar array systems with areas up to 104 m2 and 107 m2 are essential. In this study, a modular large-area flexible roll-out solar array system with several subarrays is proposed, in which Composite lenticular boom is used as the load-carrying structure, and inflation constrained with Velcros is designed as the drive mechanism. The single array can be expanded to more than 1000 m2, while the specific power is expected to reach more than 500 W/kg. In this paper, structural dynamics, inflation deployment dynamics and on-orbit thermal performances of the subarray are analyzed, the result show that the proposed solar array system is reasonable and feasible for SSPS application. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
