Application of feedforward predictive control in DC furnace coordination system

In order to solve the control difficulties such as large dynamic delay, serious coupling between machine and furnace and strong nonlinear, the feedforward and feedback predictive control is proposed to control the coordinated system on the basis of multi-model predictive control, and the static feedforward part designs the feed line feedforward of coal quantity against coal quality disturbance on the basis of the accurate balance of energy. Thus, the reference total fuel quantity under the target load instruction is determined, and the dynamic part fully considers the dynamic compensation of the unit energy storage, gives a certain overshoot fuel quantity to the boiler regulation, speeds up its response, and ensures the rapidity of the unit. The real-time simulation results of virtual DPU (Distributed Processing Unit) show that the designed feedforward-feedback predictive control can quickly respond to load change, improve the resistance to fuel disturbance, reduce the fluctuation of main steam pressure, and better ensure the safe, economic and stable operation of the coordination system.

Initiating a High-Rate and Stable Aqueous Air Battery by Using Organic N-Heterocycle Anode

Alkaline metal-air batteries are advantageous in high voltage, low cost, and high safety. However, metal anodes are heavily eroded in strong alkaline electrolytes, causing serious side reactions including dendrite growth, passivation, and hydrogen evolution. To address this limitation, we successfully synthesized an organic N-heterocycle compound (NHCC) to serve as an alternative anode. This compound not only exhibits remarkable stability but also possesses a low redox potential (−1.04 V vs. Hg/HgO) in alkaline environments. To effectively complement the low redox potential of the NHCC anode, we designed a dual-salt highly concentrated electrolyte (4.0 M KOH+10.0 M KCF 3 SO 3 ). This electrolyte expands the electrochemical stability window to 2.3 V through the robust interaction between the O atom in H 2 O molecule with the K + of KCF 3 SO 3 (H−O⋅⋅⋅KCF 3 SO 3 ). We further demonstrated the K + uptaken/extraction storage mechanism of NHCC anodes. Consequently, the alkaline aqueous NHCC anode-air batteries delivers a high battery voltage of 1.6 V, high-rate performance (101.9 mAh g −1 at 100 A g −1 ) and long cycle ability (30,000 cycles). Our work offers a molecular engineering strategy for superior organic anode materials and develops a novel double superconcentrated conductive salt electrolyte for the construction of high-rate, long-cycle alkaline aqueous organic anode-air batteries.

The kinematic accuracy of cylindrical rollers bearing isn’t only influenced by the dimensional and form precision of its parts, but also more influenced by the cooperation among them. For cylindrical rollers bearing, the main indices of the kinematic accuracy are the ending beat and the radial run out of bearings. There must be dependent relationship between the cooperative action among the parts of bearings and the ending beat or the radial run out of bearings. This relationship is hardly expressed by mathematical formula. However, because the parts dimension deviation and the run out of bearings follow statistic law and have their distribution characteristics, while the copula joint distribution function can connect the run out of bearings with multiple parts dimension accuracy, the copula function is introduced to analyze the dependent relationship between bearing parts cooperative action and its kinematic accuracy. Based on the copula function of statistic theory, the kinematic accuracy of bearings can be forecast by parts geometric accuracy. © 2021, CC BY.

Ballistic performance of CFRP under normal and oblique impacts by square fragments: Experimental, numerical, and theoretical investigations

High-performance carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are commonly used as external protective structures in military and aerospace applications and are frequently subjected to impact from fragments or projectiles. This study investigated the damage mechanisms of CFRP laminates under normal and oblique impacts from square fragments. Impact tests were conducted on 3–9 mm CFRP laminates using 4 g and 7 g square fragments at velocities ranging from 100 to 1300 m/s and impact angles from 0° to 60° Finite element simulations based on yarn-scale models were also performed. The results revealed that under oblique penetration conditions, the fragment edge initially contacting the target plate caused deeper shear damage. An analytical model was developed to predict the residual velocity of the fragments and the ballistic limit velocity (BLV) of the CFRP laminates. The average error between the model predictions and experimental results was 8.42 %, whereas that between the predictions and simulation results was 3.69 %. Interestingly, the analysis revealed a non-zero minimum resistance angle for the laminate under square fragment impact, at which the BLV of the target plate was minimised. The predicted distribution range of the minimum resistance angle in this study was 23–28° The developed predictive model and identified "minimum resistance angle" provide theoretical foundations for protective engineering design, bridging laboratory research to real-world high-risk applications such as military and aerospace. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Electroencephalogram (EEG) equipped with high time resolution that distracted by incoherent brain sources which including ocular artifacts (OAs) generating by blinks is of great significance. Therefore, these OAs got corrected before extracting information from EEG is indispensable. Improved Moment Matching (IMM) is a high-speed denoising algorithm suitable for removing OA in multi-channel EEG, which is an improvement of the moment matching method used to remove stripe noise in hyperspectral images. On foundation of this, this paper proposes an optimization algorithm for IMM based on Gaussian decay function (IMM_G). In the first place, the construction of the reference signal is optimized via utilizing a Gaussian decay function, thereby preventing the signal distortion caused by the filter. And then, a method for judging the to-be-processed interval is proposed to realizes the individualized processing of different channels. As a result, through quantitative comparison experiments with simulated data and real data from the UAIS laboratory, it was identified that IMM_G showed less time complexity, significantly enhanced arithmetic speed and denoising consequence while the detail retention ability of the original method for the non-blinking region of multi-channel EEG data is maintained. Hence, this method could be extensively used in High-density EEG (hdEEG) OAs removal scene.

Photons with spin angular momentum possess intrinsic chirality which underpins many phenomena including nonlinear optics1, quantum optics2, topological photonics3 and chiroptics4. Intrinsic chirality is weak in natural materials, and recent theoretical proposals5-7 aimed to enlarge circular dichroism by resonant metasurfaces supporting bound states in the continuum that enhance substantially chiral light-matter interaction. Those insightful works resort to three-dimensional sophisticated geometries, which are too challenging to be realized for optical frequencies8. Therefore, most of the experimental attempts9-11 showing strong circular dichroism rely on false/extrinsic chirality by employing either oblique incidence9, 10 or structural anisotropy11. Here, we report on the experimental realization of true/intrinsic chiral response with resonant metasurfaces where the engineered slant geometry breaks both in-plane and out-of-plane symmetries. Our result marks the first observation of intrinsic chiral bound states in the continuum with near-unity chiral dichroism of 0.93 and record-high quality factor exceeding 2663 for visible frequencies. Our chiral metasurfaces promise a plethora of applications in chiral light sources and detectors, chiral sensing, valleytronics and asymmetric photocatalysis. © 2022, CC BY.

Heat released from the energy consumption in buildings (QB) is an important component of anthropogenic heat, which is a major contribution to the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon. However, it is still a challenge to integrate all the available data to improve the estimation of QB due to inconsistence among multiple data sources. This paper presents a solution to estimate the anthropogenic heat from buildings in Singapore by classifying the buildings into the electricity consumption sectors based on random forest classification model using multiple data sources. The classification model achieves a cross validation accuracy score of 95% by using building use type, land use type of land parcel where the building stands, location and area as predictors. Based on the classification result, the daily average QB from the commercial buildings (CS), Housing and Development Board (HDB) apartments, private apartments and condominiums (AC), and landed properties (LP) were estimated to be 12.1, 4.4, 3.2 and 1.1 W m-2 on a 200 m-by-200 m grid, respectively. QB was approximately 9% of the net all-wave radiation in Singapore in 2015. Our approach can serve as a useful tool for integrating dataset from different sources with inconsistent categorisations. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In order to investigate the runoff pollutant control effects by different types of permeable paving systems (PPS), Porous asphalt (PA), Porous concrete (PC), Cement brick (CTB), Ceramic brick (CCB), Sand base brick (SBB) and Shale brick (SB) were selected. The removal effects and mechanisms of six PPS and individual filler layer on chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N), nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP)were investigated. Studies have shown that the removal of runoff pollutants varies widely among different PPS. PA had the best removal effect for nearly all runoff pollutants, which the maximum removal rate was 100% for both COD and NH4+-N. Permeable bricks could effectively control on NO3-N and TN pollutants, which the best removal efficiency were more than 94% for SB. Compared with other runoff pollutants, PC was more effective in removing TP with a removal rate of 95.8%. Furthermore, compared with surface material, base layer, subbase layer and soil layer were the most effective in controlling pollution in runoff, which the removal rate were more than 80%. Due to the deeper length, pollutants in runoff could contact with filler longer time and increased the removal efficiency. At the same time, graded gravel and medium sand have a stronger adsorption capacity for pollutants in runoff, resulting in a better purification. This study provides theoretical and practical significance not only for runoff pollution control, but also for the design and use of PPS in runoff. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Interfacial area concentration is one of the most critical parameters in two-phase flow and reflects the interfacial area of mass, momentum and energy transfer. The prediction of interfacial area concentration is also essential to close the interfacial transfer terms in the two-fluid model. The calculation of interfacial area concentration has been well developed from bubbly flow to churn flow, including interfacial area correlations and two-group interfacial area transport equation. While seldom researchers focus on that for annular flow or annular mist flow. This paper proposed the one-dimensional interfacial area correlation for annular flow in vertical pipes based on the averaged liquid film thickness model for annular flow. The effects of the droplets in pipes were also considered in the model. The new model has been evaluated against the existing experimental data. The results indicate that the new model can provide the excellent prediction of the interfacial area concentration for annular flow in vertical pipes. Copyright © 2018-2019 by JSME
