Poor interfacial adhesion of composites deriving from the surface smoothness and inertness of poly (p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibers severely constrains the extensive application of the fillers. Constructing the functional coating is generally considered a non-destructive and scalable strategy to simultaneously improve the asperity and activity of PBO fiber surfaces. Herein, we report a facile method to boost the interfacial adhesion in PBO fiber/epoxy composite by employing finely granular-structured polyaniline (PANI) as an interfacial intensifier. Via a mild and efficient in situ polymerization technique, the positively charged micron-scale PANI particles are uniformly anchored onto the negatively charged PBO fibers to form delicate leathery surface layer containing substantial amino groups. Meanwhile, the resulting PBO fibers maintain the intrinsic mechanical properties. Therefore, the PANI-coated PBO fiber/epoxy composite (PBO@PANI/EP) shows the significant increase in interfacial shear strength (41.0 MPa) and interlaminar shear strength (44.9 MPa), soaring by 60.16% and 54.83%, respectively. The debonding behavior and fracture surfaces confirm that the interfacial failure mechanism of PBO@PANI/EP converts from adhesive failure to both cohesive and substrate failure. The strategy in this work to modify PBO fiber surfaces for increasing the interfacial combination of composite is cost-effective and feasible to scale up. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the manufacturing process of a specific type of conical cylinder, high-frequency argon arc welding is employed for butt welding. The uncertainty of the butt weld position relative to the welding gun results in excessive manual labor during production, leading to suboptimal product qualification rates;Consequently, the implementation of a fusion laser welding seam tracking automated control system was initiated. This system utilizes a PLC to gather various sensor data signals, control servomotors, valves, and motors, thereby establishing a comprehensive automated butt welding tracking control system. Ultimately, this achieves the goals of reducing labor costs, diminishing labor intensity, and enhancing both production efficiency and product quality. © 2024 SPIE.

Research on Open-Set Recognition Methods for Rolling Bearing Fault Diagnosis

In rolling bearing fault diagnosis, when an unknown fault is present, the Closed-Set Recognition (CSR) method tends to misclassify it as a known fault. To address this issue, an Open-Set Recognition (OSR) framework is proposed for rolling bearing fault diagnosis in this study. The framework is built upon a serial multi-scale convolutional prototype learning (SMCPL) network, enhanced with an efficient channel attention (ECA) mechanism to extract the most critical fault features. The extracted features are fed into the Density Peak Clustering (DPC) module, which identifies known and unknown classes based on the computed local densities and relative distances. Finally, validation is performed on the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) dataset, the Xi'an Jiaotong University rolling bearing accelerated life test dataset (XJTU-SY), and the Paderborn University bearing dataset (PU), Germany, and the framework is comprehensively evaluated in terms of several evaluation metrics, such as normalization accuracy and feature visualization. The experimental results show that SMCPL-ECA-DPC outperforms the comparative methods of SMCPL, CPL, ANEDL, CNN, and OpenMax and has high diagnostic performance in the identification of unknown faults.

Numerical Simulation of Flow-Thermal Coupling Field Inside Upper Plenum and Hot Legs of Pressurized Water reactor (Pwr)

The temperature and flow rate of coolant in the hot legs of pressurized water reactor (PWR) systems directly reflect the nuclear power and the heat transfer state of the reactor core, and are key parameters for reactor power control and safety protection. Most of existing studies have been conducted to analyze the steady-state thermal hydraulic features in the upper plenum and hot legs from a spatial scale, but less from a temporal scale to describe and analyze the transient features. In order to meet the requirements of key parameters measurement and safe operation, this paper established a reasonably simplified 3D geometrical model of the upper plenum and hot legs of the HPR1000 reactor based on a multi-physics field simulation platform and investigated the steady-state and transient features of the flow-thermal coupling field of coolant under numerical simulation, focusing on the coupling analysis of the flow-thermal coupling field on the spatial and temporal scales. The analysis of the steady-state features shows that the coolant flowing into the upper plenum from the upper core plate is characterized by a high middle temperature and a low peripheral temperature. As a result, there is an uneven coolant temperature distribution at the inlet of the hot legs that the temperature differences between the cold lower part and hot upper part are relatively large. However, with the axial flow of coolant, the temperature distribution in hot legs tends to be more uniform and the temperature differences decrease. The simulation results show that the flow of the low temperature coolant in hot legs dominates the change of coolant temperature distribution. The analysis of the transient features shows that a small fluctuation of flow rate at the core outlet causes changes in the turbulent kinetic energy of coolant in hot legs, but the effect on coolant temperature distribution is relatively weak. Electroencephalogram (EEG) equipped with high time resolution that distracted by incoherent brain sources which including ocular artifacts (OAs) generating by blinks is of great significance. Therefore, these OAs got corrected before extracting information from EEG is indispensable. Improved Moment Matching (IMM) is a high-speed denoising algorithm suitable for removing OA in multi-channel EEG, which is an improvement of the moment matching method used to remove stripe noise in hyperspectral images. On foundation of this, this paper proposes an optimization algorithm for IMM based on Gaussian decay function (IMM_G). In the first place, the construction of the reference signal is optimized via utilizing a Gaussian decay function, thereby preventing the signal distortion caused by the filter. And then, a method for judging the to-be-processed interval is proposed to realizes the individualized processing of different channels. As a result, through quantitative comparison experiments with simulated data and real data from the UAIS laboratory, it was identified that IMM_G showed less time complexity, significantly enhanced arithmetic speed and denoising consequence while the detail retention ability of the original method for the non-blinking region of multi-channel EEG data is maintained. Hence, this method could be extensively used in High-density EEG (hdEEG) OAs removal scene. © 2022 IEEE.

In order to resolve the problem that the traditional fault diagnosis methods can not accurately diagnose under complex working conditions and few fault data, a fault diagnosis method based on meta-learning and time convolution network (TCN) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition-Independent Component Analysis (EEMDICA) is used to denoise the original signals under different working conditions, and the acquired signals are randomly sampled to form meta tasks according to the meta-learning protocol. Through the TCN model training, the priori knowledge is obtained by optimizing the initialization parameters. The knowledge is used to improve accuracy in unforeseen condition tasks. Finally, simulation experiments are carried out on the gearbox dataset. The results indicate that the method has advantages in solving the fault classification problem of few shot gearbox under complex working conditions.

FCM fuel (fully ceramic micro-encapsulated fuel) which is a promising ATF (accident tolerant fuel) candidate fuel. Establishing the irradiation-thermal-mechanical coupling behavior simulation method of FCM fuel accurately, would be very helpful for the optimal design of FCM fuel. In this research, TRSIO particles were assumed to be uniformly distributed in the silicon carbide (SiC) matrix, and the corresponding representative volume element (RVE) models were established. Based on ABAQUS commercial software, the thermal effects and irradiation effects of FCM fuel were all introduced into this numerical simulation by coding the UMAT subroutine, and then the irradiation - thermal - mechanical coupling behavior simulation method of FCM fuel was preliminary established. Compared with the simulation result of BISON software in open literature, the simulation results of this numerical simulation method are basically consistent with those of BISON software, the effectiveness of this numerical simulation method was preliminary verified. © 2019 Xi'an Jiaotong University

The relevance of the countercurrent flow limitation phenomenon is known in nuclear (emergency core cooling and accident situations) industries, such as a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA). The occurrence of countercurrent flow limitation (CCFL), which can exist in a host of places around the nuclear reactor system, will prevent the emergency cooling water, which is necessary to cool the core of successfully flowing into the core from the downcomer of Pressurized Water reactor (PWR) in the LOCA. Accurate prediction of the downcomer CCFL phenomenon is significant for the design and analysis of reactor safety. Among the experiments at Upper Plenum Test Facility (UPTF), various tests, test 6 and test 7 are studied in this research. The conservatively evaluated using the best-estimate program RELAP5/MOD3.3 to predict the CCFL phenomenon at the downcomer. Above all, the methodology of node partition for the channels with cross-connections to represent the circumferential downcomer annulus was also studied. In particular, the nodes along circumferential direction had a vital effect on the prediction of the steam velocity profile of downcomers. The influence of the CCFL model, including the most widely used Wallis-type and Kutateladze-type correlations, and the cooling limited liquid-downflow behavior were analyzed. In addition, the pressure on the downcomer and steam flow rate of the break were monitored, and the predicted results were also analyzed. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
