The short-range order is inherently present in the multi-principal element alloys and has a profound impact on the defect behaviour. The effect of short-range order on vacancy and interstitial formation and migration was studied in body-centered cubic multi-principal element alloy NbZrTi by first-principles calculations. Two short-range order structures created by density functional theory and Monte Carlo method at 500 K and 800 K were compared with the random solid solution structure. Both vacancy and interstitial formation energies increase with the degree of short-range order. Point defect formation energies tend to be higher in region enriched in Nb and lower in region enriched in Zr and Ti. Both vacancies and interstitials prefer to migrate towards Zr,Ti-rich regions and away from Nb-rich regions, suggesting that Zr,Ti-rich region can act as recombination center for point defect annihilation. Compared to the random solid solution, the short-range order increases the spatial heterogeneity of point defect energy landscape. Tuning the degree of short-range order can be a viable strategy to optimize the point defect behaviour to achieve enhanced radiation resistance in multi-principal element alloys. © 2022, The Authors. Waves seriously impact port construction, worldwide route planning, military activities, and wave power generation. To improve the accuracy of significant wave height prediction, we proposed a novel prediction method, a multi-layer perceptron combined with a backpropagation adjustment (MLP-BP) prediction model that combines mutation mode decomposition (VMD) and a simulated annealing optimization algorithm (SA). Firstly, we use the variable modulus method to decompose the significant wave height sequence data and transform the wave height sequence into multiple different sub-modes (IMF) to reduce the complexity and non-stationarity of the data. Secondly, the simulated annealing algorithm (SA) is used to optimize the weight and bias of the MLP-BP neural network to find the optimal parameter configuration and improve the performance and generalization ability of the prediction model. Finally, the decomposed sub-modal components of each significant wave height sequence are inserted into the MLP-BP neural network and the predicted values of each element are summed to obtain the final significant wave height prediction. The prediction results of the SSA-MLP-BP, PSO-MLP-BP, SA-MLP-BP, and VMD-SA-MLP-BP were compared and demonstrated that the VMD-SA-MLP-BP model performed best. The MAE, MAPE, MSE, RMSE, and R2 of the prediction evaluation indexes were 0.036 m, 11.7%, 0.004 m 2 , 0.067 m, and 0.983, respectively, which performed well in predicting significant wave height.

In this paper, an event-triggered adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm is developed for the temperature control of large-scale heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. First, the dynamic model of the system is established by using the conservation of mass and energy, which involves the dynamics of the fan and the cooling coil. Second, the multi-zone temperature control problem is treated as a non-zero-sum game, which requires solving the coupled Hamilton-Jacobian (HJ) equations. Then, the ADP algorithm is employed to solve the HJ equation. Importantly, in order to reduce the network transmission burden of large-scale HVAC systems, the ADP algorithm developed in this paper is based on event-triggering mechanism. Theoretical analysis proves that the tracking error and the neural network weight estimation error are uniformly ultimately bounded. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

With the proposal of liquid metals as coolant of the reactors, the use of accurate heat transfer correlation and reliable turbulent prandtl number（Prt）model of these low prandtl number fluids in turbulent flow is essential. The heat transfer of Liquid metals differ from traditional coolants for their good molecular heat conductivity and this property leads to a separation of the spatial extension of thermal and viscous boundary layers. A constant turbulent prandtl number is proved to be inappropriate for complex conditions for it depends on the Reynolds and molecular Prandtl number. This paper proposes a new turbulent prandtl number model Prt=C+B/Pet, which can be used for accurately predicting the heat transfer for liquid metal flows. The constants C and B of the expression are obtained from the analytic solution of renormalization group procedure. B is further corrected with the physical properties for different liquid metals. The results are in a good agreement with experimental data over the range of experimentally accessible Prandtl numbers. The Nusselt numbers calculated using the proposed model with the Lyon integral are found to be well consistent with the experimental data for forced fully-developed pipe flows with constant heat flow boundary conditions. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis is also carried out for pipe geometries. With the proposed model for turbulent prandtl number, CFD codes using RANS approach give similar results for local Nusselt numbers measured in the experiments. Copyright © 2018-2019 by JSME

Suitable vibration and noise indices which provide technical direction for vibration and noise reduction, play a very important role in structure analysis and validated test. The contribution of foundation impedance is studied by analyzing the vibration reduction index of a single degree of freedom system. The finite element method (FEM) and boundary element method (BEM) are applied to simulate the vibration and noise indices of a cabin along with internal equipment. The vibration reduction and sound radiation indices of the internal isolator have been calculated to analyze the variation trend with frequency. The results indicate that the difference between vibration level difference and insert loss is very small in most frequency band. Interestingly, the power flow difference and radiated sound power are opposite in phase in middle and high frequency band, which have been proved to be appropriate elements to evaluate the vibration and noise indices of the cabin. Owing to the unique technological merits of additive manufacturing (AM), design for AM, particularly eco-design for AM, has been gaining attention in improving the sustainable performance of AM-fabricated (AMed) parts. The main challenge in harvesting potential sustainability benefits is how to capture the impact of design on sustainable performance. Though several existing studies adopted quantitative evaluation on AM sustainability and investigated the relationships between design information and sustainability information of AMed part, the sustainability information is still unavailable in the design phase. This hardly guides eco-design for AM in practice. To support the increasing industrial applications of AM, this paper illustrates related knowledge, that is, material-process-structure-ecoProperty (MPSeP) relationships to connect design and sustainability information in eco-design for AM. An ontology-based method is proposed to model the MPSeP relationships of the AMed part in a structured way. An example of an AMed hydraulic valve body was used to demonstrate the MPSeP modeling process. It is discussed that how the constructed model effectively assists AM designers through providing eco-design recommendation, and enables design software tools to perform sustainability analysis towards eco-design for AM.

In this paper, the human factors reliability of standard HUD and adaptive HUD is evaluated by comprehensively using behavioral indicators and physiological indicators. A 3-factor multi-level hybrid experiment (HUD mode mission environment repetition times) was used to explore the load difference and performance difference between adaptive HUD and traditional HUD in different flight stages and different flight duration during flight. The results show that compared with the traditional HUD, the adaptive HUD system can significantly reduce the mental load of pilots in the takeoff and approach landing phases, and in the case of long-term flight, the adaptive HUD system will not cause additional burden to the subjects. Emergent grain boundary phases in stressed polycrystalline thin films

The grain boundary (GB) microstructure influences and is influenced by the development of residual stresses during synthesis of polycrystalline thin films. Recent studies have shown that the frustration between the preferred growth direction and rotations of abutting crystals to local cusps in GB energies leads to internal stresses localized within nanoscopic surface layers around the valleys and ridges that form at emergent boundaries (eGBs). Using a combination of continuum frameworks, numerical analyses, and all-atom simulations of bicrystal 〈111〉 copper films, we show that eGBs tune their surface morphology and rotation extent in response to external strains. Compression favors rotation to and growth of low-energy GB phases (complexions) at eGB valleys while tension favors the transitions at eGB ridges, a reflection of the stress-induced mass efflux/influx that changes the energetic balance between interfacial and deformation energies. Molecular dynamics simulations of strained and growing bicrystal films reveal that the eGB phase transition is coupled to island formation at the surface triple junctions, providing a direct link between eGB phases and surface step flow. The interplay between eGB structure, morphology, and mechanics emerges as a crucial ingredient for predictive understanding of stress and morphological evolution during film growth, with broad implications for multifunctional response of polycrystalline surfaces in a diverse range of surface phenomena such as surface-mediated deformation, interfacial embrittlement, thermal grooving, stress corrosion, surface catalysis, and topological conduction.

Ensuring the safety of Autonomous Driving systems (ADS) across diverse and unpredictable operational scenarios remains a significant challenge for accident prevention. Central to this effort is the continuous monitoring of Operational design Conditions (ODC), which encompass both in-vehicle factors and external Operational design Domain (ODD). However, the absence of robust methodologies to precisely identify ODC boundaries hinders the deployment and adoption of high-level ADS. This paper introduces a learnable ODC monitor designed to identify implicit operational design condition boundaries to prevent ADS failures. By integrating a state-space duality encoder and a Bayesian neural network decoder, we propose an efficient learnable ODC monitor, termed ODCNet. Furthermore, to further enhance prediction reliability, residual error analysis with linear discrimination is applied for calibrating prediction. Experimental results demonstrate ODCNet's superiority in failure prediction compared to baseline models, achieving a balance between safety and coverage. These findings contribute to advancing data-driven accident prediction and prevention strategies, ensuring safer deployments of ADS in complex environments. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this study, a new combined reactivity control pattern is presented to lower the power peaking factor on a floating nuclear power plant. In the pattern the whole cycle length is divided into several boron-adjusting periods. During one boron-adjusting period, the soluble boron concentration remains unchanged and the core reactivity change is controlled by control rods. Boron concentration would only be changed at the end of a boron-adjusting period. In the whole cycle the boron concentration would be changed for two to four times, which is acceptable for a floating nuclear power plant. To get an optimized solution, a model of the combined reactivity control pattern was established, which contained boron concentration and control rod pattern (CRP) as coupled variables. A particle swarm optimization with novel mutation operator (PSONM) was applied to optimize the solution. The model was practiced based on a small modular reactor ACP100 core. The solution was optimized separately for equal division of two, three, four and five boron-adjusting periods. The results show that the combined reactivity control pattern can get a lower power peak factor than the original rod-controlled-only pattern without shortening the cycle length. Therefore, the safety of the floating nuclear power plant can be improved. Copyright © 2018-2019 by JSME
