High-speed mobility is a challenging scenario in wireless communications since it involves fast-varying channels, in which orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) could degrade significantly without accurate Doppler compensation. Recently, a modulation called orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) was proposed for the specific scenario. The advantages are two-fold, i.e., the orthogonality in the time-frequency domain and the clustered sparsity of channel information in the delay-Doppler domain. In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional structured Turbo compressed sensing (CS) algorithm based on our previous work on Turbo CS for fast time-varying channel estimation. Markov random field is applied to model the clustered sparse prior of the channel in the two-dimensional delay-Doppler domain. In contrast to the conventional Turbo CS, a two-dimensional structured minimum mean-square error (MMSE) estimator is designed by message passing over a Markov random field. The convergence and the MSE performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated, and the simulation results validate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithms.

Log data are important audit basis to record routine events occurring on computer or network system, which are also critical data source for detecting system anomalies. By analyzing the data from multi-source logs, it is helpful to detect abnormal system behaviors and discover intruder attacks in real time. In this paper, a Spark-based log data security platform is designed and built to analyze the large-scale log data and detect abnormal network behaviors. By integrating data mining, machine learning, and statistical analysis technologies, our proposed framework can quickly analyze large-scale multi-source log data and accurately discriminate the abnormal behaviors. Furthermore, the association analysis is applied to detect abnormal behaviors or potential threats in the system. Under a real-world network environment, extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the system performance, which can achieve a fast and accurate detection for abnormal network behaviors, and significantly improve the accuracies under various types of network attack scenarios.

Anisotropic interaction rules in circular motions of pigeon flocks: An empirical study based on sparse Bayesian learning

Coordination shall be deemed to the result of interindividual interaction among natural gregarious animal groups. However, revealing the underlying interaction rules and decision-making strategies governing highly coordinated motion in bird flocks is still a long-standing challenge. Based on analysis of high spatial-temporal resolution GPS data of three pigeon flocks, we extract the hidden interaction principle by using a newly emerging machine learning method, namely the sparse Bayesian learning. It is observed that the interaction probability has an inflection point at pairwise distance of 3–4 m closer than the average maximum interindividual distance, after which it decays strictly with rising pairwise metric distances. Significantly, the density of spatial neighbor distribution is strongly anisotropic, with an evident lack of interactions along individual velocity. Thus, it is found that in small-sized bird flocks, individuals reciprocally cooperate with a variational number of neighbors in metric space and tend to interact with closer time-varying neighbors, rather than interacting with a fixed number of topological ones. Finally, extensive numerical investigation is conducted to verify both the revealed interaction and decision-making principle during circular flights of pigeon flocks.

Predicting essential proteins is indispensable for understanding the minimal requirements of cellular survival and development. In recent years, many methods combined with the topological features of PPI networks have been proposed. However, most of these approaches ignored the intrinsic characteristics of biological attributes. This paper integrates Gene expression data, Subcellular localization and PPI networks to identify essential proteins, named GSP. We use local average connectivity and edge clustering coefficient unite with gene expression data to measure centralities of nodes. Compared with non-essential proteins, essential proteins appear more frequently in some subcellular localizations such as Nucleus and considering that different compartments play different roles, thus we integrate subcellular localization information to identify essential proteins. The computational experiment results on the yeast PPI networks show that the proposed method GSP outperforms other state-of-art methods including DC, EC, IC, SC, NC, LAC, PeC, WDC and UDoNC. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2017.

Images contain rich emotions. The traditional image classification and retrieval methods mainly classify images according to the bottom visual features of the images. Most of them ignore the influence and effect of emotions. The image affective classification and retrieval method in this paper combines the bottom visual features with the high-level affective semantics. Aiming at the insufficiency of the retrieval based on the single bottom visual features, it combines the bottom image color feature with the shape feature, and establishes the image feature space. Aiming at the semantic gap between low-level visual features and high-level semantics of the image, it establishes the emotional semantic space through cognitive psychology experiments and factor analysis. The method in this paper uses SVM to fill the semantic blanks to achieve the affective semantics annotation of the image, maps feature space to the emotional space of the image to realize the classification and retrieval of the image affective semantics. The result of the experiment shows that this method improves the efficiency and performance of image retrieval, and provides an effective solution to the affective semantics research of images. © 2018, Ubiquitous International. On wormhole formation in f(R,T) gravity: Varying Chaplygin gas and barotropic fluid

In this paper, the formation of specific static wormhole models is discussed, by assuming an f(R, T) = R + 2λT extended theory of gravity, T = −ρ + Pr + 2Pl being the trace of the energy momentum tensor. In the first part, wormhole solutions are constructed imposing that the radial pressure admits an equation of state corresponding to a varying Chaplygin gas. Two forms for the varying Chaplygin gas are considered, namely Pr = −Bb(r)u/ρα and Pr = −BR(r)m/ρα, respectively. In the second part, the wormhole models are constructed assuming that the radial pressure can be described by a varying barotropic fluid. In particular, Pr = ωb(r)vρ and Pr = ˆωr kR(r)ηρ are considered, respectively, leading to two additional, traversable wormhole models. In all cases, b(r) is the shape function, and R(r) the Ricci scalar obtained from the wormhole metric for a redshift function equal to 1. With the help of specific examples, it is demonstrated that the shape functions of the exact wormhole models previously constructed do obey the necessary metric conditions. The same energy conditions help reveal the physical properties of these models. A general feature is the violation of the NEC (ρ + Pi ≥ 0) in terms of the radial pressure Pr at the throat of the wormhole. For some of the models, one can satisfy the NEC at the throat while a violation of the DEC (ρ−Pi ≥ 0) occurs. To summarize, exact wormhole models can be constructed with a possible violation of the NEC and DEC at the throat of the wormhole, while being ρ ≥ 0. Thus, the interesting feature appears that one has a violation of the WEC (ρ ≥ 0 and ρ + Pi ≥ 0) not related to the energy density behavior (the index i, being r resp. l, indicates radial resp. lateral pressure). Robust control design for quantum unitary transformations has been recognized as a fundamental and challenging task in the development of quantum information processing due to unavoidable decoherence or operational errors in the experimental implementation of quantum operations. In this paper, we extend the systematic methodology of sampling-based learning control (SLC) approach with a gradient flow algorithm for the design of robust quantum unitary transformations. The SLC approach first uses a "training" process to find an optimal control strategy robust against certain ranges of uncertainties. Then a number of randomly selected samples are tested and the performance is evaluated according to their average fidelity. The approach is applied to three typical examples of robust quantum transformation problems including robust quantum transformations in a three-level quantum system, in a superconducting quantum circuit, and in a spin chain system. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of the SLC approach and show its potential applications in various implementation of quantum unitary transformations. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Functional airspace blocks (FAB) concept is adopted by the European airspace to allows cooperation between airspace users to manage the air traffic flow, while ensuring efficiency, safety, and fairness without constraints of geographical boundaries. This integration of airspace introduces more flexibility to manage aircraft trajectory and airspace usage. In this paper, we propose a distributed air traffic flow management model to address four-dimensional trajectory planning over the European FAB. The goal is to enable effective information sharing between airspace blocks in strategic planning, and to minimize interaction between trajectories. The proposed model and overall methodology is implemented and tested with a full day air traffic data over the European airspace. Interaction-free 4D trajectories are produced within computational time acceptable for the operational context, which shows the viability of the distributed model and interaction minimization approach for effective FAB implementation.

The load balancing strategy of RSS used in the PFING capture method does not work well on multi-core processor platforms to achieve the disadvantage of the load balancing on the processor cores. This paper presents a packet load balancing method based on FD and RSS. The basic idea of this method is to capture the packet with the 5 tuple filter matching, and then can not be classified packets and flow oriented filter matching, and finally can not be classified packets matching RSS. Design of experiments to test the packet capture performance and load balancing performance which the packet capture method of PFING using the combination of load balancing strategy based on FD+RSS and RSS, the results show that the data packet stream load balancing method based on FD+RSS can improve the performance of data packet capture and load balancing among multiple cores.
