Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) have shown great promise in applications ranging from millimeter-sized haptic feedback to centimeter-scaled soft robots. However, past progress has been focused on the soft dielectric elastomers, and little attention has been paid to the compliant electrodes. Being stable to maintain conductive while enduring repeated large deformations and compliant to avoid stiffness increasing for the dielectric elastomer remains challenging. Moreover, the fabrication of multilayer DEAs is complex, hindering the practicality. Herein, an ultrathin (~500 nm) and highly stable acrylate rubber electrode based on unique island-bridge multi-filler conductive network is developed with outstanding electrical conductivity of 2.7 S cm-1, excellent stretchability of over 1200%, and superior cycling stability of 500,000 cycles at 30% uniaxial strain. An efficient stacking method based on conductive and dielectric layer co-stretching (CDCS) approach is proposed for assembling multilayer-stacked DEAs. The 5-layer DEA reaches a large actuation strain of >17% for lifting a heavy 1-kg load and can serve as biceps muscle to drive an artificial lower arm by a maximum rotation angle of 8°, demonstrating its potential in actuating humanoid robot in an essentially soft way. This conductive rubber electrode and CDCS method are promising for developing soft robotics and muscle-like actuators. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The continuous change of communication frequency brings difficulties to the reconnaissance and prediction of non-cooperative communication. The core of this communication process is the frequency-hopping (FH) sequence with pseudo-random characteristics, which controls carrier frequency hopping. However, FH sequence is always generated by a certain model and is a kind of time sequence with certain regularity. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network in deep learning has been proved to have strong ability to solve time series problems. Therefore, in this paper, we establish LSTM model to implement FH sequence prediction. The simulation results show that LSTM-based scheme can effectively predict frequency point by point based on historical HF frequency data. Further, we achieve frequency interval prediction based on frequency point prediction.

Legacy contaminants accumulated on glaciers could be released with global warming and become secondary pollution sources, influencing downstream ecosystems. Cryoconite is drawing increasing attention due to its ability to accumulate atmospheric contaminants, e.g., fallout radionuclides, lead (Pb), and mercury (Hg). However, little is known about the secondary release and environmental fate of cryoconite. Here, we analyzed multi-parameters including radionuclides, elements, δ13Corg, δ15N, and metal stable isotopes (Pb and Hg) in a proglacial sediment core collected from Midtre Lovénbreen glacial foreland, Svalbard, high Arctic, to examine the possible migration of pollutants during glacial retreat. The sediment in the 15-20 cm unit showed simultaneous enrichment of TOC, TN, 210Pb, 137Cs, Pb, and Hg, and the comparative analysis of published data indicated the influence of cryoconite. Pb and Hg isotopic signatures were also different from sediment below and above this layer. Pb isotopes indicated that anthropogenic activities contributed to the majority of Pb, especially in the 15-20 cm unit (up to 59%), suggesting remobilization of legacy Pb with glacial retreat. Negative Δ199Hg (-0.77‰) of this unit suggested greater loading of Hg derived from atmospheric mercury depletion events (AMDEs) in the proglacial area. All these geochemical proxies strongly support that the meltwater-derived cryoconite and associated contaminants could accumulate in the proglacial environment with glacial retreat. Closer attention to the proglacial environment is important for assessing future risks from the glacial system. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Phthalate acid esters (PAEs), known food contaminants, can lead to reproductive problems, respiratory diseases, childhood obesity, and neuropsychological disorders. This work aims to develop an electrochemical aptamer sensor for the detection of DAP and its analogs. To achieve specific recognition ability for PAEs, We have introduced the thymidine-Hg2+-thymidine strategy for the first time in an electrochemical aptamer sensor, incorporating metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as the carrier for the aptamer. Additionally, nanoamplification technology was applied by immobilizing MXene on the electrode to intensify the sensor's current signal. In the presence of PAEs, these molecules specifically bound to the aptamers, resulting in competitive release of Hg2+ and aptamers connected to Hg2+, subsequently reducing current signaling. Under optimal experimental conditions, the designed sensor achieved a linear range from 1.65×10-5 mg/mL to 3×10-2 mg/ml and an extremely low detection limit of 8.94×10-6 mg/mL. Furthermore, it exhibited good reliability and practicality in detecting actual samples. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, a unique road contour extraction approach from high resolution satellite image is proposed, in which the road contour was extracted in two steps. Firstly, support vector machines (SVM) was employed merely to classify the image into two groups of categories: a road group and a non-road group. The identified road group images are the discrete and irregularly distributed sampled points, and they are an uncompleted data set for the road. Secondly, the road contour was extracted from the road group images using the tensor voting framework, since the tensor voting technique is superior to the traditional methods in extracting the geometrical structure from the uncompleted data set. The experimental results on the high resolution satellite image demonstrate that the proposed approach worked well with images comprised by both rural and urban area features.

A Geometric Approach to Second-Order Consensus of Heterogeneous Networked Systems

This paper investigates second-order consensus of networked systems with heterogeneous intrinsic nonlinear dynamics via a geometrical method, in which the nonlinear dynamics are governed by both velocity and position. First, two necessary conditions are deduced for the existence of consensus solutions by analyzing the inherent nonlinear dynamics of isolated nodes. Then a closed invariant set is constructed via geometrical methods. The nonempty of the set implies the existence of consensus solution. Assuming that the primary and the second dimension about the above invariant set are the same linear subspace, the system can be divided into two simple subsystems through a linear transformation. In addition, some sufficient conditions are proposed for reaching the global consensus based on matrix theory and Lyapunov method. Finally, numerical simulation results are provided to illustrate the validity of theoretical analysis. IEEE

Closed-loop dual-atom-interferometer inertial sensor with continuous cold atomic beams

We demonstrate a closed-loop light-pulse atom interferometer inertial sensor that can realize continuous decoupled measurements of acceleration and rotation rate. The sensor operates with double-loop atom interferometers, which share the same Raman light pulses in a spatially separated Mach-Zehnder configuration and use continuous cold atomic beams propagating in opposite directions from two 2D+ magneto-optical trappings. Acceleration and the rotation rate are decoupled and simultaneously measured by the sum and difference of dual atom-interferometer signals, respectively. The sensitivities of inertial measurements are also increased to be approximately 1.86 times higher than that of a single atom interferometer. The acceleration phase shift is compensated in real time by phase-locking these interferometers via the Raman laser phases from the sum interferometer signal, and the gyroscope perfomance is improved. We achieve long-term stabilities of 6.1 µg and 840 nrad/s for the acceleration and the rotation rate, respectively, using a short interrogation time of 0.87ms (interference area A = 0.097 mm2). This work provides a building block for an atomic interferometer based inertial measurement unit for use in field applications that require a high data-rate and high stability. In this paper, we investigate the safe task offloading and primary node selection in blockchain, digital twin (DT) and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) enabled Internet of Vehicles (IoV). Edge servers centers provide computing power for task processing for Mobile Vehicles (MVs), while blockchain can provide security guarantees for MVs during task offloading. Based on the above system, we propose a joint optimization scheme for vehicle task offloading decision and the Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) consensus process. Due to the large number of optimization variables and constraints, the problem becomes more complex. Traditional convex optimization and dynamic programming methods are difficult to effectively solve this problem. To address this issue, we propose a deep reinforcement learning based algorithm that utilizes Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO). The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper outperforms the benchmark algorithm in terms of convergence and other aspects. © 2024 IEEE.

A novel mode selection is proposed for the optimization of high refractive index sensor based on chiral fiber grating. A unique quasi-leaky mode is selected as an approximately equivalence to the continuous radiation modes to describe the power change in response of the change of the ambient refractive index in the coupled-mode analysis. An enhanced simulated sensitivity of 701.04 dB/RIU is obtained by selecting the unique mode working at the most sensitive coupling state.

A Co Concentration Prediction Method for Electronic Nose Based on Trellisnet with Gated Recurrent Unit and Dilated Convolution

As one of the harmful substances in the atmosphere, carbon monoxide (CO) is harmful to human beings. With the wide application of gas sensors and machine learning algorithms, the accuracy of concentration predicting of various gas such as CO is constantly improving. Now we apply TrellisNet, a network utilizing both recurrent and convolutional techniques, to gas concentration prediction, which is also a time-series prediction task, with the aim of improving its performance. To enhance TrellisNet’s ability to retain long time series information, we replaced the activation units in each layer of the model with GRU. Compared to using LSTM as the activation unit, our approach has lower computational complexity and offers a more stable model. Additionally, we introduced dilated convolutions in each layer, allowing the model to establish connections with as many past time steps as possible at a given time point, even with fewer layers. This further enhances the preservation of long time series information. We named our improved technique trellis convolutional dilated network (TrelliSense). Due to the injection of the same input values in each layer, TrelliSense also exhibits superior training stability. Experimental results demonstrate that TrelliSense outperforms other time prediction networks, including TCN, LSTM, and GRU, in terms of all error metrics (MAE, RMSE, SMAPE). Therefore, we argue that TrelliSense is a better method for predicting CO concentration. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
