Fuzzy-Model-Based Fault-Tolerant control for Stochastic Re-Entrant Manufacturing Systems

This study addresses the problem of guaranteed cost fault-tolerant fuzzy control for multiline re-entrant manufacturing systems (RMSs) against stochastic disturbances and workstation faults. Initially, a nonlinear hyperbolic impulsive partial differential equation model is employed to describe the complex and hybrid dynamics of RMSs suffering from unexpected faults within the working stations, and then the corresponding approximation T-S fuzzy model is constructed. In what follows, with the aid of the parallel distributed compensation fuzzy control scheme, the main results of stability analysis and controller synthesis for the closed-loop re-entrant manufacturing control system are derived using a timer-dependent Lyapunov functional with spatio-temporal auxiliary variables. It is found that by means of the proposed fault-tolerant control approach, the RMS can be effectively and robustly driven to a desired production mode with steady feeding and production rates while the upper bound of a quadratic cost function is minimized. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control approach is validated through numerical simulations. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper proposes a multi-outlet internal rotating nozzle structure to address the issues of soot generation and friction/wear associated with mineral mining. The atomization and jet characteristics of the nozzle are simulated and analysed using CFD software, and the effects of initial pressure and outlet diameter on the jet effect of the internal rotating nozzle are investigated. The findings indicate that the jet velocity in the lateral exit channel and the canter exit of the multi-outlet nozzle increases with an increase in the initial pressure. Conversely, the exit flow velocity of the nozzle at a constant initial pressure shows a gradual decrease with an increase in the exit diameter. At low pressure and outlet diameter, the atomization effect of the nozzle is not significant. However, the atomization angle increases gradually with an increase in the initial pressure and outlet diameter. Under the same pressure, the atomization angle shows a tendency of increasing and then decreasing with the increase of outlet diameter. And the best atomization angle is obtained when the outlet diameter is 1.3 mm and the initial pressure is 0.7 MPa. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In response to the situation where the first blade pick of a coal mining machine is prone to failure when cutting hard coal, the working process of the drum was simulated using finite element method. The force on the pick at different positions was obtained, and the main reasons for the failure of the first blade pick were analyzed. The effectiveness and practicality of reducing the force on the first blade pick were proposed and simulated. The research results indicate that the force on the first blade tooth can be effectively reduced by increasing the diameter of the end disk. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Influence of substituting CaO with SrO on the crystallization behavior of CaO-SiO2 based continuous casting mold fluxes

The influence of replacing CaO with SrO on the crystallization behavior of CaO-SiO₂-based continuous casting mold fluxes was systematically examined by using the S/DHTT-TA-III high-temperature in situ thermal analyzer system. The replacement of CaO by SrO prolongs the crystal incubation time in the crystallization process of CaO-SiO₂-based mold fluxes, reduces the crystal growth rate during the crystallization process and plays an inhibitory role in the crystallization process of the mold fluxes. With increasing SrO content, the crystallization mechanism of the mold fluxes gradually changes from constant nucleation and three-dimensional growth to constant nucleation and one-dimensional growth, and the crystallization activation energy gradually increases. The replacement of CaO with SrO reduces the critical cooling rate of CaO-SiO₂-based mold fluxes. The critical cooling rates of the mold fluxes with different SrO contents are 14 °C s-1 (SrO = 0 wt%), 8 °C s-1 (SrO = 3 wt%), 5 °C s-1 (SrO = 6 wt%), and 3.5 °C s-1 (SrO = 9 wt%). With increasing SrO content, the crystallization time of the mold fluxes under gradient heat preservation gradually extends from 0 s to the following: 34 s (SrO = 3 wt%), 58 s (SrO = 6 wt%), and 104 s (SrO = 9 wt%). When the heat preservation time is 200 s, the proportions of the liquid phase fraction of the mold fluxes are 28.73 % (SrO = 0 wt%), 36.28 % (SrO = 3 wt%), 65.58 % (SrO = 6 wt%), and 80.33 % (SrO = 9 wt%), respectively. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Aiming at the mechanical continuous operation of bauxite mining process, firstly, an improved scheme of cutting bauxite with an 8-pole motor shearer is proposed, which is practical and feasible, and a 3D model is established in Solid Edge. Secondly, considering the higher meshing frequency of high-speed gear in the cutting part, the meshing characteristics under different loads were investigated by MASTA software, and the laws of contact stress, meshing dislocation and trans-mission error were obtained. In the scenario of class-incremental learning (CIL), deep neural networks have to adapt their model parameters to non-stationary data distributions, e.g., the emergence of new classes over time. To mitigate the catastrophic forgetting phenomenon, typical CIL methods either cumulatively store exemplars of old classes for retraining model parameters from scratch or progressively expand model size as new classes arrive, which, however, compromises their practical value due to little attention paid to parameter efficiency. In this paper, we contribute a novel solution, effective control of the parameters of a well-trained model, by the synergy between two complementary learning subnetworks. Specifically, we integrate one plastic feature extractor and one analytical feed-forward classifier into a unified framework amenable to streaming data. In each CIL session, it achieves non-overwritten parameter updates in a cost-effective manner, neither revisiting old task data nor extending previously learned networks;Instead, it accommodates new tasks by attaching a tiny set of declarative parameters to its backbone, in which only one matrix per task or one vector per class is kept for knowledge retention. Experimental results on a variety of task sequences demonstrate that our method achieves competitive results against state-of-the-art CIL approaches, especially in accuracy gain, knowledge transfer, training efficiency, and task-order robustness. Furthermore, a graceful forgetting implementation on previously learned trivial tasks is empirically investigated to make its non-growing backbone (i.e., a model with limited network capacity) suffice to train on more incoming tasks. © 2025 IEEE.

Mode division multiplexing (MDM) optical fiber communication technology enhances bandwidth utilization and communication capacity to address the increasing demand for high-capacity data transmission in the era of rapid network traffic growth. For MDM optical fiber communication systems affected by various impairments, optical performance monitoring (OPM) can effectively characterize the impairments in received optical signals, directly reflecting the transmission signal state and channel conditions, and help ensure efficient and stable network operation. In this paper, we propose a multi-task convolutional neural network (MT-CNN) aided OPM method for MDM signals. The proposed MTCNN combines convolutional neural networks and a multi-task learning framework to extract the transmission link information and predict the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of few-mode channels synchronously. Simulation results show that the proposed MT-CNN-based OPM scheme can achieve accurate OSNR performance evaluation for MDM fiber transmission signals. © 2025 SPIE.

Seeking Secure Synchronous Tracking of Networked Agent Systems Subject to Antagonistic Interactions and Denial-of-Service Attacks

Inspired by the group phenomenon of biological populations in nature, swarm intelligence has been derived and has further advanced the research of coordinated control of networked agent systems (NASs). With this in mind, this article delves into the problem of secure synchronous tracking control for high-order NASs subject to antagonistic interactions, particularly under the threat of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. First, a novel distributed secure control scheme is crafted to address the complex dynamics of NASs that encompass both cooperative and antagonistic interactions among agents. This scheme is pivotal as it enables follower agents to synchronize their tracking with the leader agent, even amidst the disruptive influence of DoS attacks, transcending the conventional bipartite tracking consensus approach. Subsequently, a dynamic, time-varying closed-loop system is generated, which is intrinsically linked to the intermittent nature of DoS attacks, characterized by periods of dormancy and activity. Based on the infinite matrix product convergence analysis method, some essential algebraic conditions are formulated, which hinge on the parameters of DoS attacks, the underlying network structure, and the gain of the controller. These conditions are critical for guaranteeing the attainment of robust synchronous tracking. Finally, some numerical simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed secure synchronous tracking control scheme for high-order NASs with signed networks. That is, all followers are able to achieve synchronous tracking of the leader when the corresponding topology, as well as control parameter conditions, are satisfied, and the opposite is not possible. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper aims to investigate the challenging problem of a multi-agent game with multiple pursuers and a single evader in an environment with multiple unknown uncertainties. A coupled approach combining decentralized observers and reinforcement learning (RL) controllers is proposed to deal with this scenario. Firstly, decentralized observers driven by auxiliary control laws are introduced to estimate the states of uncertain systems, with their best responses obtained through the adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) method. The estimated states, which reflect the actual states of the pursuers’ systems, are concurrently transmitted to the RL controllers. Subsequently, the controllers are trained with observer-based heterogeneous-agent proximal policy optimization (OHAPPO) algorithm, in which a novel global multi-function cost is designed. The algorithm utilizes the advantage decomposition for policy updates in the way of credit assignment, resulting in more stable and efficient updates compared to traditional value decomposition. Moreover, to further enhance the performance of both observers and controllers, a sequential game is established between them, where observers’ policies are influenced by controllers’ optimal control and vice versa. Finally, the simulation results verify the effectiveness of the designed OHAPPO algorithm in the pursuit-evasion game. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Inter-robot relative positions are crucial for executing various multirobot missions, such as formation maneuvering and collaborative inspection. However, the current sensing technology usually provides part of relative position information, such as inter-robot distances, bearings and angles. This prompts the study of determining inter-robot relative positions, i.e., relative localization, from these partial measurements. Based on the existing results of static networks' localizability and mobile robots' relative localization, we propose a novel concept, relative localizability to describe whether a multirobot system is relatively localizable. Given each robot's self-displacement measurements and inter-robot partial measurements in d (d ≤ 4) sampling instants, we show that a multirobot system's relative localization can be achieved in a purely algebraic and distributed manner, in which the multirobot system is said to be d-step relatively localizable. To make the results more general, we consider that the multirobot system consists of landmarks, leaders, and followers, and that the inter-robot measurements can be distances, bearings or angles. When robots' coordinate frames have different orientations, we show that the given local measurements can be used to determine robots' relative positions and their coordinate frames' relative orientations simultaneously. Simulations and experiments of relative localization for ground robots are conducted to validate the obtained results. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
