Quantized anomalous Hall resistivity achieved in molecular beam epitaxy-grown Mn Bi2Te4 thin films

The intrinsic magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4provides a feasible pathway to the high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall（QAH） effect as well as various novel topological quantum phases. Although quantized transport properties have been observed in exfoliated MnBi2Te4thin flakes, it remains a big challenge to achieve molecular beam epitaxy（MBE）-grown MnBi2Te4thin films even close to the quantized regime. In this work, we report the realization of quantized anomalous Hall resistivity in MBE-grown MnBi2Te4thin films with the chemical potential tuned by both controlled in situ oxygen exposure and top gating. We find that elongated post-annealing obviously elevates the temperature to achieve quantization of the Hall resistivity, but also increases the residual longitudinal resistivity, indicating a picture of high-quality QAH puddles weakly coupled by tunnel barriers. These results help to clarify the puzzles in previous experimental studies on MnBi2Te4and to find a way out of the big difficulty in obtaining MnBi2Te4samples showing quantized transport properties.

The dawn−dusk asymmetry in mesosphere and lower thermosphere temperature disturbances during geomagnetic storms at high latitude

Utilizing observations by the Sounding of the Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry(SABER)instrument,we quantitatively assessed the dawn-dusk asymmetry in temperature disturbances within the high-latitude mesosphere and lower thermosphere(MLT)during the main phase of geomagnetic storms in this *** analysis of five geomagnetic superstorm events indicated that during the main phase,negative temperature disturbances were more prevalent on the dawn side than on the dusk side in the high-latitude MLT *** of a statistical analysis of 54 geomagnetic storm events also revealed a notable disparity in temperature disturbances between the dawn and dusk *** high latitudes,38.2%of the observational points on the dawn side exhibited negative temperature disturbances(less than−5 K),whereas on the dusk side,this percentage was only 29.5%.In contrast,at mid-latitudes,these proportions were 34.1%and 36.5%,respectively,showing no significant *** also conducted a statistical analysis of temperature disturbances at different altitudes,which revealed an increase in the proportion of warming disturbances with ***,the proportion of cooling disturbances initially rose with altitude,reaching a peak around 105 km,and subsequently *** temperature disturbance differences could be explained by the day-night asymmetry in vertical wind disturbances during storm conditions.

Layer Hall effect induced by hidden Berry curvature in antiferromagnetic insulators

The layer Hall effect describes electrons spontaneously deflected to opposite sides at different layers, which has been experimentally reported in the MnBi2Te4thin films under perpendicular electric fields. Here, we reveal a universal origin of the layer Hall effect in terms of the so-called hidden Berry curvature, as well as material design principles. Hence, it gives rise to zero Berry curvature in momentum space but non-zero layer-locked hidden Berry curvature in real space. We show that, compared to that of a trivial insulator, the layer Hall effect is significantly enhanced in antiferromagnetic topological insulators. Our universal picture provides a paradigm for revealing the hidden physics as a result of the interplay between the global and local symmetries, and can be generalized in various scenarios.

Statistical study of magnetic holes in the upstream region of Mercury’s bow shock

Magnetic holes are magnetic depression structures that exist widely in many plasma *** magnetic holes with durations of>1 s in the solar wind at Mercury’s orbit have drawn much attention,but the properties of the magnetic holes with shorter durations are still ***,we investigate the magnetic holes with durations of 0.1-100 s in the upstream region of Mercury’s bow shock based on observations by the MESSENGER(MErcury Surface,space ENvironment,GEochemistry,and Ranging)*** can be divided into two groups according to the distribution of their duration:small-duration magnetic holes(SDMHs,<0.6 s)and large-duration magnetic holes(LDMHs,>0.6 s).The duration of each group approximately obeys a log-normal distribution with a median of~0.25 s and 3 s,*** 1.7%(32.6%)of the SDMHs(LDMHs)reduce the magnetic field strength by more than 50%.For both groups,some structures have a linear or quasi-linear polarization,whereas others have an elliptical *** magnetic hole events in both groups tend to have a higher rate of occurrence when the interplanetary magnetic field strength is *** occurrence rates are also affected by Mercury’s foreshock,which can increase(decrease)the occurrence rate of the SDMHs(LDMHs).This finding suggests that Mercury’s foreshock might be one source of the SDMHs and that the foreshock can destroy some *** observations suggest that a new group of magnetic holes with durations of<0.6 s exist in the upstream region of Mercury’s bow shock.

Magnetism of NaYbS_(2):From finite temperatures to ground state

Rare-earth chalcogenide compounds ARECh_(2)(A=alkali or monovalent metal,RE=rare earth,Ch=O,S,Se,Te)are a large family of quantum spin liquid(QSL)candidate ***2is a representative member of the *** key issues on NaYbS_(2),particularly how to determine the highly anisotropic spin Hamiltonian and describe the magnetism at finite temperatures and the ground state,remain to be *** this paper,we conducted an in-depth and comprehensive study on the magnetism of NaYbS_(2) from finite temperatures to the ground ***,we successfully detected three crystalline electric field(CEF)excitation energy levels using low-temperature Raman scattering *** them with the CEF theory and magnetization data,we worked out the CEF parameters,CEF energy levels,and CEF *** further determined a characteristic temperature of~40 K,above which the magnetism is dominated by CEF excitations while below which the spinexchange interactions play a main *** characteristic temperature has been confirmed by the temperature-dependent electron spin resonance(ESR)***-temperature ESR experiments on the dilute magnetic doped crystal of NaYb_(0.1)Lu_(0.9)S_(2) further helped us to determine the accurate ***,we quantitatively obtained the spin-exchange interactions in the spin Hamiltonian by consistently simulating the magnetization and specific heat ***,the above studies allow us to explore the ground state magnetism of NaYbS_(2) by using the density matrix renormalization *** combined numerical calculations and experimental results to demonstrate that the ground state of NaYbS_(2) is a Dirac-like QSL.

Spin fluctuations and orbital-selective superconductivity in Ba_(2)CuO_(4-y):A FLEX study

Recently discovered Ba_(2)CuO_(4-y)provides new perspectives to the study of high-temperature ***,little is known about the spin dynamics of this *** this work,we employ the fluctuation exchange(FLEX)approximation within the framework of spin-fluctuation mediated superconductivity to examine the behavior of the spin fluctuations of a two-orbital Hubbard model for Ba_(2)CuO_(4-y).Our calculations reveal an extraordinary spin resonance mode coupled to the superconducting state in the hole-underdoped ***,we confirm that the coupling between the electrons and this resonance mode can lead to a dip-like feature in the electronic spectrum as a feedback *** the hole-overdoped regime,by incorporating self energy into our calculations,we obtain orbital-dependent renormalizations and show how these self-energy effects can lead to the detailed gap structures and the orbital-selective superconductivity,which could not be obtained in a previous study using random phase approximation(RPA).This research may shed new light on searching for unconventional superconductors with higher transition temperatures.

Noncovalently functionalized organic graphene aerogel composite for high-performance proton storage

Although organic compounds are considered to be promising electrode materials with their remarkable characteristics such as diverse structures,design controllability,and environmental friendliness,their low charge-transfer capability and limited cycling durability hinder their application in aqueous proton ***,we prepared a noncovalent phenazine-based graphene aerogel(H/G)composite for aqueous proton storage,which is realized by redox-active Hexaazatrinaphthalene(HATN)organic compound combined with conductive reduced graphene oxide(rGO).The integration of rGO into HATN not only effectively optimizes the electronic structure of the H/G composite to enhance its electrochemical activity,but also the favorable noncovalent π-π interaction existed between HATN and rGO provides a stable structure for fast electron *** obvious electron transfer in the aerogel composite promotes fast and reversible redox reactions occurred with the imino-active HATN in the composite electrode for proton uptake/removal in an aqueous acidic electrolyte,which are demonstrated by in-situ Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)investigation,theoretical calculations and experimental ***,it can deliver a fast,stable and efficient aqueous proton storage behavior with a large specific capacity of 274 mA·h·g^(-1) and considerable calendar life with~100%capacity retention after 3000 cycles,surpassing previously reported proton-based organic electrodes in aqueous acidic ***,an outstanding soft-package aqueous proton(APB)has been fabricated with considerable long-term cycling stability.

Magnetically suspended control moment gyroscope (MSCMG) is a multivariable, strong coupling and nonlinear complex system. The vibration force is generated by multi-source disturbances such as residual mass unbalance and sensor error entering the closed-loop control system through different paths. The existing research work on dynamic modeling and harmonic vibration suppression of magnetically suspended rotor system is mostly based on the approximate linearization model of magnetic bearing force. When MSCMG outputs large torque, excessive rotor displacement runout will aggravate the nonlinear degree of magnetic bearing force, and seriously affect the suppression accuracy of harmonic vibration force of magnetically suspended rotor system. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a nonlinear dynamic model of magnetic bearing force and analyze its impact on the vibration force, and provide a theoretical basis for the research of harmonic vibration force suppression algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.
