Recently, stochastic computing (SC) is increasingly popular in constructing MAC for on-edge DNNs benefiting from its outstanding energy-efficiency, including its adequate precision and gate-level operation. However, current SC-DNN systems always include a lot of costly SNGs/APCs for inevitably switches between binary and stochastic domains, which mortgages incongruous resources to pay the "bill" of the domain-switches and impedes highly-concurrent deployments. In this work, PseudoSC, a binary approximation to low-discrepancy SC, is proposed to totally remove the domain-switch for SNG/APC-free SC-DNNs. Its basic idea is to virtually re-arrange a couple of stochastic operands into a 2-D latent op-space, in which, original Monte Carlo sampling can be partitioned into three sub-ops, i.e., two fixed binary-ops and a fractal recursion. In theory, the recursion forms an isomorphic partition of the sampling repeated in smaller scales until the binary base-case achieved, as a result, a SC-op is well approximated only with binary-ops. Based on above theory, a multi-lane micro-architecture is designed to unroll the recursion within a few cycles and its advantages on hardware saving is verified under popular DNNs. The evaluation shows that the DNN-models with our schemes achieve 98.7% accuracy of the fixed-point implementations, which significantly outperform other SOTA methods. In addition, its reduced structure improves the power efficiency by 3.67 times on average.

The photographs captured by digital cameras usually suffer from over or under exposure problems. For image exposure enhancement, the tasks of Single-Exposure Correction (SEC) and Multi-Exposure Fusion (MEF) are widely studied in the image processing ***, current SEC or MEF methods are developed under different motivations and thus ignore the internal correlation between SEC and MEF, making it difficult to process arbitrary-length sequences with improper ***, the MEF methods usually fail at estimating the exposure of a sequence containing only under-exposed or over-exposed *** alleviate these problems, in this paper, we develop a novel Fusion-Correction Network (FCNet) to tackle an arbitrary-length (including one) image sequence with improper *** is achieved by fusing and correcting an image sequence by Laplacian Pyramid (LP) image *** each LP level, the low-frequency base component of the input image sequence is fed into a Fusion block and a Correction block sequentially for consecutive exposure estimation, implemented by alternative exposure fusion and *** exposure-corrected image in current LP level is upsampled and fused with the high-frequency detail components of the input image sequence in the next LP level, to output the base component for the Fusion and Correction blocks in next LP *** on the benchmark dataset~\cite{afifi2021learning} demonstrate that our FCNet is effective on arbitrary-length exposure estimation, including both SEC and *** code is publicly released at \url{https://***/NKUJinLiang/FCNet}. © 2023, The Authors. Incorporating suburban cropland into urban green infrastructure: A perspective of nature-based solutions in China

Urban green infrastructure (GI) addresses human social development issues and challenges through urban green space ecosystem services. However, the ecosystem service functions of suburban cropland, especially regulating services and cultural services, have been seriously underestimated. The distribution of green spaces and suburban cropland varies in different regions of China, as well as their potential development methods. This article examines the potential of integrating suburban cropland into urban green infrastructure, offering a perspective on nature-based solutions in China. We divided the suburban cropland in China into three parts: peri‑suburban, mid-suburban, and outer-suburban by the concept of 15-minute living circle based on different travel modes of people. Based on statistical yearbook data, satellite remote sensing images and the fragstats 4.2 programme, a quantitative analysis was conducted on the spatial distribution, landscape pattern and social development of suburban farmland and green space in four cities. Then, the potential for improving the exposure level of suburban cropland after incorporating suburban cropland into urban green infrastructure was quantified and compared. Finally, we explored the potential development of the three kinds of suburban cropland as green infrastructure based on the concept of NbS. We found the spatial pattern of cropland and green space in the mid-suburban is greatly affected by regional geographical conditions, the green exposure level, i.e., green space availability indicators, in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xi'an increased by 83 %, 300 %, 24 %, and 612 %, respectively, after incorporating suburban cropland into urban green infrastructure. Correct understanding of the land-surface processes and cloud-precipitation processes in the Tibetan Plateau(TP) is an important prerequisite for the study and forecast of the downstream activities of weather systems and one of the key points for understanding the global atmospheric movement. In order to show the achievements that have been made, this paper reviews the progress on the observations for the atmospheric boundary layer, land-surface heat fluxes, cloud-precipitation distributions and vertical structures by using ground-and space-based multiplatform, multisensor instruments and the effect of the cloud system in the TP on the downstream weather. The results show that the form drag related to the topography, land–atmosphere momentum and scalar fluxes is an important part of the parameterization process. The sensible heat flux decreased especially in the central and northern TP caused by the decrease in wind speeds and the differences in the ground-air temperatures. Observations show that the cloud and precipitation over the TP have a strong diurnal variation. Studies also show the compressed-air column in the troposphere by the higher-altitude terrain of the TP makes particles inside clouds vary at a shorter distance in the vertical direction than those in the non-plateau area so that precipitation intensity over the TP is usually small with short duration, and the vertical structure of the convective precipitation over the TP is obviously different from that in other regions. In addition, the influence of the TP on severe weather downstream is preliminarily understood from the mechanism. It is necessary to use model simulations and observation techniques to reveal the difference between cloud precipitation in the TP and non-plateau areas in order to understand the cloud microphysical parameters over the TP and the processes of the land boundary layer affecting cloud, precipitation and weather in the downstream regions.

Preliminary study on deformation behaviors of spray droplet impacting on nonrigid deposited layer

Spray forming technology has been adopted to prepare essential castings in various industry fields. Understanding what happen during the impaction of droplet on deposited layer is critical to optimize spray forming processes and so improve the final casting quality. The present work investigated the morphology evolution of droplet and deposited layer during impaction, with particularly emphasis on the nonrigid feature of deposited layer in practical spray forming. The results demonstrate that the deposited layer would suffer obvious deformation under the impaction of flighting droplet, which produce puddle-like structure on the deposited layer. The droplet spreading process would be suppressed by this puddle-like structure when the droplet temperature is not high enough, which might introduce gap between the droplet and the deposited layer, so might cause tiny holes in the final casting. Moreover, the simulation results suggest that multiple droplet impaction might cause column structure on the deposited layer, this would seriously increase the surface roughness of the final casting. The investigations hint that the mechanical properties of deposited layer should be considered when studying the microstructure evolution and mechanism of spray forming casting. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The performance of holographic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, employing two-dimensional (2-D) planar antenna arrays, is typically compromised by finite degrees-of-freedom (DOF) stemming from limited array size. The DOF constraint becomes significant when the element spacing approaches approximately half a wavelength, thereby restricting the overall performance of MIMO systems. To break this inherent limitation, we propose a novel three-dimensional (3-D) antenna array that strategically explores the untapped vertical dimension. We investigate the performance of MIMO systems utilizing 3-D arrays across different multi-path scenarios, encompassing Rayleigh channels with varying angular spreads and the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) channels. We subsequently showcase the advantages of these 3-D arrays over their 2-D counterparts with the same aperture sizes. As a proof of concept, a practical dipole-based 3-D array, facilitated by an electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) reflecting surface, is conceived, constructed, and evaluated. The experimental results align closely with full-wave simulations, and channel simulations substantiate that the DOF and capacity constraints of traditional holographic MIMO systems can be surpassed by adopting such a 3-D array configuration. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Cloud manufacturing (CMfg), integrating distributed manufacturing resources as services to cloud center, aims at intelligent, green, and economic customized manufacturing. The optimal composition of services to fulfill particular manufacturing requirement is a core issue to realize efficient cloud manufacturing. Many researchers have studied the problem considering the Quality-of-Service (QoS) of independent services. However, the correlation between services is rarely considered. In this paper, the importance of service correlation is emphasized. Two kinds of service correlation, service exclusion and service collaboration, are modeled for service composition. An improved algorithm DET, which combines Differential Evolution Algorithm (DE) with a Tabu table based on service exclusive and collaborative relationships, is designed to filter composable services and find better solutions for complex tasks. Experiments have shown the effects of service correlation on the quality of composed services and demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method DET compared with traditional DE. © 2019 Dime Universita di Genova, DIMEG University of Calabria.

PDT: Uav Target Detection Dataset for Pests and Diseases Tree

UAVs emerge as the optimal carriers for visual weed identification and integrated pest and disease management in crops. However, the absence of specialized datasets impedes the advancement of model development in this domain. To address this, we have developed the Pests and Diseases Tree dataset (PDT dataset). PDT dataset represents the first high-precision UAV-based dataset for targeted detection of tree pests and diseases, which is collected in real-world operational environments and aims to fill the gap in available datasets for this field. Moreover, by aggregating public datasets and network data, we further introduced the Common Weed and Crop dataset (CWC dataset) to address the challenge of inadequate classification capabilities of test models within datasets for this field. Finally, we propose the YOLO-Dense Pest (YOLO-DP) model for high-precision object detection of weed, pest, and disease crop images. We re-evaluate the state-of-the-art detection models with our proposed PDT dataset and CWC dataset, showing the completeness of the dataset and the effectiveness of the YOLO-DP. The formation and growth of ice particles, particularly on the surfaces of spherical water droplets, bear profound implications for localized weather systems and global climate. Herein, we develop a theoretical framework for ice nucleation on minuscule water droplets, establishing that 10 ∼ 5000 nm droplets can considerably increase in volume, making a substantial contribution to ice formation within mist, fog, or even cloud systems. We reveal that the Casimir-Lifshitz (van der Waals) interaction within these systems is robust enough to stimulate both water and ice growth on the surfaces of ice-cold spherical water droplets. The significant impacts and possible detectable phenomena from the curvature are demonstrated. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.
