The Multi-Hypothesis Tracking (MHT) method is one of the most promising approaches to realize automatic tracking of small and dim targets in complex space scene. However, the number of hypotheses generated by this algorithm has an exponentially increasing relationship with the number of trajectories, measurement data, and the number of image frames. In the paper, the automatic detection and tracking method of judging the confidence coefficient of the trajectory obtained by the MHT which is based on the characteristics of dim targets, has been realized in the IRST system. The performance of this method is greatly improved. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

The large-sized space environmental simulation test facility is mainly used for providing thermal radiation environment in high-vacuum, cold and dark space for satellites, spacecraft, lunar spacecraft to carry out whole satellite thermal vacuum test and for large equipment like antenna to carry out tests in TV conditions. Monitoring the spacecraft's surface optical image or temperature is a main task in space environment simulation test. In previous tests, optical image test mainly took place in a fixed position, so the measuring location and angle are limited. This paper focuses on large spherical space environmental simulation test facility, and designs a large arc-shape high-precision walking device in a space environment simulation test device. It introduces key technology in detail like structure design, thermal design, processes and manufacturing, etc. The test results show that this device can work steadily and reliably under simulation space environments, and the precision exceeds 0.5°. © 2018 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

Multiple-input multiple-output geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar (MIMO GEO SAR), composed by several mini-satellites in GEO orbits, has more spatial degrees of freedom, which helps to suppress clutter and improves the performance of ground moving target indication (GMTI). However, in order to ensure the satellite safety, the satellite spacing in MIMO GEO SAR is very large. It results in the failure of far-field assumption and causes the moving target defocusing because of the mismatch between the steering vector in far-field sources and the moving target echo. Here, a new signal model based on the near-field sources is first given according to the GEO SAR satellite-ground geometry relationship. Then, considering the phase difference between the different channels, the spatial steering vector is derived and the weight vector for adaptive processing is proposed to suppress clutter and indicate the moving target. Finally, computer simulations are carried out for the validation of the proposed method. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and technology. All rights reserved.

Fractionally spaced super-exponential (FSSE) algorithm has the disadvantage of computational complexity since it exploits high-order statistics explicitly. The authors propose a dimension degradation technique for FSSE when it is applied to the equalisation of a sparse channel in accordance with the relationship between the coefficients of the cross fourth-order cumulant (CFOC) in FSSE and the channel impulse response. They implement partial updating on the prominent coefficients of the CFOC with all the small coefficients remaining unchanged. The computational complexity of the modified FSSE reduces significantly with an acceptable performance loss, and its performance is validated via numerical simulations. © This is an open access article published by the IET under the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://***/licenses/by/3.0/)

In order to solve the problem that radar emitter signal modulation recognition under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has difficulty in selecting the parameters of the classifier and the problem of low recognition rate caused by the improper selection of features, a multi-feature fusion modulation recognition algorithm based on improved particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the algorithm uses Choi-Williams distribution time-frequency analysis to transform the radar signals into time-frequency images, and combines transfer learning and principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the transfer features. Then it extracts the Renyi entropy and AR model coefficients of the signals and combines with the image features to realise multi-feature fusion. Finally, the improved PSO algorithm optimises support vector machine parameters so that population converge quickly. The simulation results show that the recognition rate of this algorithm is 95.3% when the SNR is 0 dB. The number of iterations of this algorithm is small, the signal recognition rate of the system is improved, and the effectiveness of the system is improved by applying PCA. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and technology. The missile-borne or airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) usually adopts the squint mode and subaperture to satisfy maneuvering and the real-time processing. A realtime imaging algorithm of squint SAR based on SPECAN processing is presented. It has high computational efficiency in low resolution. A unified back-projection algorithm is proposed to solve the problem of fan-shaped distortion and geometric distortion. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The wing-beat frequency is one of the most important behavioural parameters of migratory insects and is widely used to distinguish insect species due to the diversity of wing-beat frequency among different species. Traditional insect radar has been able to achieve automatic extraction of the wing-beat frequency. However, its low-range resolution and fixed threshold detection may cause false alarms and reduce the precision of wing-beat frequency. The authors' Ku-band insect radar system enables high-resolution, full-polarised detection of insects, but has not achieved automatic extraction of wing-beat frequency yet. The authors propose an insect wing-beat frequency automatic extraction algorithm based on a Ku-band insect radar system. The algorithm adopts the constant false alarm rate detector and tracks the association algorithm to get target echo automatically and combines the amplitude spectrum method and the phase spectrum method to achieve wing-beat frequency extraction. The authors carried out the outfield experiment using the radar system and used the collected data to test the proposed algorithm. The experiment results confirm that the algorithm can extract the wing-beat frequency of insects automatically based on the Ku-band insect radar system, which can improve system efficiency. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and technology. Strong adaptive radar, such as cognitive radar (CNR), can perform various missions while ensuring its own security in electronic warfare, via detecting environments and changing the radar parameters in real time. Unfortunately, most of the current military countermeasures, such as jamming-based electronic countermeasures, have rarely been related to jamming for CNR. Since the behaviours of radar in the traditional design of the jammer-radar scenario are always static, it is easy to create a subjective or local optimal jamming effect. In order to dynamically analyse the execution process of a complete jamming radar mission, this work establishes an equivalent attack-defence game in which the radar is regarded as a defence decision agent, and the jammer is an attack decision agent. The attributes of the game's players, the rules of the game, and the conditions for the end of the game are set clearly by setting reasonable parameters. After searching for antagonism strategies by exhaustive method, it can be found that the survivability of the predictive cognitive jamming is much stronger than that of the normal jamming based on real-time sampling data of radars. In order to improve the tracking and stabilization performance, a control method combining disturbance observer and adaptive feed-forward control using parameterization is proposed for seeker stabilized platforms. The system identification algorithm is used to identify dynamic model of the true plant. Then the discrete-time disturbance observer is designed. The feedback loop controller is designed using pole-placement techniques. The recursive least square (RLS) adaptive filter is used to build the inverse model of the feedback control loop and in this way, the feed-forward control is constructed. The adaptive filter and the feedback loop constitute a control scheme with two degrees-of-freedom (DOF). Tracking experiments conducted on velocity command inputs verify the validity of the adaptive feed-forward controller. Experimental results show that this method responses quickly to commands. For a sinusoidal signal at the frequency of 30Hz, the adaptive feed-forward controller can obtain an amplitude response without attenuation and the phase lag is reduced to 11° in contrast with the feedback control whose phase lag is 60°. This method significantly improves the transient performance and is superior to the feedback control alone.

Aiming at the four-station networked TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization system, a direct location method based on electronic elevation map search is proposed, the Geometric Dilution Precision (GDOP) is derived, and the factors affecting the location accuracy are analyzed. The location method under real conditions is also simulated, and its feasibility is demonstrated, which provides a new engineering method for networked TDOA location.
