Software projects are not developed in isolation but often build upon other open source resources. These projects form a kind of reference ecosystem regarded as a software world. Most of social computing works focus on social networks such as Facebook and weibo to mine information. However, few previous works analyze Open Source Community which could help developers conduct collaborative development. In this paper, we model the Java reference ecosystem as a network based on the reuse relationships of Git Hub-hosted Java projects and analyze the characteristics and the patterns of this reference ecosystem by using community detection and pattern discovery algorithms. Our study indicates that(1) Developers prefer to reuse software limited in only a small part of projects with cross cutting functionality or advanced applications.(2)Developers usually select software reused with similar function widely depending on different requirements, resulting to different patterns. Based on these collective intelligence, our study opens up several possible future directions of reuse recommendation, which are considered as guidance of collaborative development.

Due to the large message transmission latency in distributed Virtual Environments(DVEs) on Wide Area Net-work(WAN), the effectiveness of causality consistency control of message ordering is determined by not only causal order of messages but also the real-timeness. If merely causal order is considered, the real-time property of DVEs may not be ensured because of the unlimited waiting time for the delayed messages. While if only real-timeness is emphasized, there may be too many delayed messages, which have to be discarded, to maintain the quality of causal message ordering. Therefore, a trade-off between the quality of causal order delivery and real-timeness is necessary for DVEs. In this article, a novel causality based message ordering approach is presented. In general, this new approach dynamically balances the demands of causal order delivery and real-timeness. Experiment results demonstrate the approach can enhance the quality of causality, while simultaneously keep the real-time property of DVEs. © 2011 IEEE.

Improving the channel utilization is a significant issue to enhance the performance in WLAN. This paper presents, Pillow Talks MAC (PT-MAC), a novel spectrum sharing mechanism to create an extra channel (pt-channel) for client- to-client transmission in WLAN. Obviously, The basic chal- lenge in our proposal is how pt-channel works concurrently and transparently with AP transmissions. To address the issue, in PT-MAC, selected clients are allowed to contend for pt-channel during uplink transmissions and talk freely under the ongoing downlink transmissions. Based on ad- vanced physical techniques, pt-channel transmitter receives and forwards the AP signals simultaneously within OFDM cyclic prefix, resulting in mixed signals are overheard by re- ceiver in pt-channel. However, the mixed message can be re- covered by pt-decoding system. Simulations and analytical results show that, PT-MAC reuses the spectrum in WLAN and achieves a throughput gain as large as 92% with similar fairness, when the ratio of downlink traffic is about 80%. © 2015 ACM.

Performance of the fixed-point autoencoder

The model of autoencoder is one of the most typical deep learning models that have been mainly used in unsupervised feature learning for many applications like recognition, identification and mining. Autoencoder algorithms are compute-intensive tasks. Building large scale autoencoder model can satisfy the analysis requirement of huge volume data. But the training time sometimes becomes unbearable, which naturally leads to investigate some hardware acceleration platforms like FPGA. The software versions of autoencoder often use single-precision or double-precision expressions. But the floating point units are very expensive to implement on FPGA. Fixed-point arithmetic is often used when implementing autoencoder on hardware. But the accuracy loss is often ignored and its implications for accuracy have not been studied in previous works. There are only some works focused on accelerators using some fixed bit-widths on other neural networks models. Our work gives a comprehensive evaluation to demonstrate the fix-point precision implications on the autoencoder, achieving best performance and area efficiency. The method of data format conversion, the matrix blocking methods and the complex functions approximation are the main factors considered according to the situation of hardware implementation. The simulation method of the data conversion, the matrix blocking with different parallelism and a simple PLA approximation method were evaluated in this paper. The results showed that the fixed-point bit-width did have effect on the performance of autoencoder. Multiple factors may have crossed effect. Each factor would have two-sided impacts for discarding the "abundant" information and the "useful" information at the same time. The representation domain must be carefully selected according to the computation parallelism. The result also showed that using fixed-point arithmetic can guarantee the precision of the autoencoder algorithm and get acceptable convergence speed. © 2016

Conventional Knowledge Graph Reasoning (KGR) models learn the embeddings of KG components over the structure of KGs, but their performances are limited when the KGs are severely incomplete. Recent LLM-enhanced KGR models input KG structural information into LLMs. However, they require fine-tuning on open-source LLMs and are not applicable to closed-source LLMs. Therefore, in this paper, to leverage the knowledge in LLMs without fine-tuning to assist and enhance conventional KGR models, we propose a new three-stage pipeline, including knowledge alignment, KG reasoning and entity reranking. Specifically, in the alignment stage, we propose three strategies to align the knowledge in LLMs to the KG schema by explicitly associating unconnected nodes with semantic relations. Based on the enriched KGs, we train structure-aware KGR models to integrate aligned knowledge to original knowledge existing in KGs. In the reranking stage, after obtaining the results of KGR models, we rerank the top-scored entities with LLMs to recall correct answers further. Experiments show our pipeline can enhance the KGR performance in both incomplete and general situations. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This paper presents an automatic deblurring approach for motion blur images. The approach explores the prior of the intensity and gradient to estimate the motion blur kernel from single blurred image. In this way, motion blur kernel could be well estimated not only on daytime images, but also on nighttime images. Efficient optimization method was given for the prior-based approach. Besides, a cost-effective method was also proposed to remove the noise of the kernel in the iterative kernel estimation. The proposed kernel enhancement approach could also improve the performance of other blind deblurring algorithm. Experimental results showed that the performance of the proposed algorithm was superior to many state-of-the-art blind deblurring algorithms, especially for nighttime images with saturated regions.

Dangling pointer error is pervasive in C/C++ programs and it is very hard to detect. This paper introduces an efficient detector to detect dangling pointer error in C/C++ programs. By selectively leave some memory accesses unmonitored, our method could reduce the memory monitoring overhead and thus achieves better performance over previous methods. Experiments show that our method could achieve an average speed up of 9% over previous compiler instrumentation based method and more than 50% over previous page protection based method. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

It is an important issue to preserve the consistent delivering order of messages at each site in distributed Virtual Environments(DVEs). Currently, the violations of message delivery order are inclined to happen in the large-scale and frequently interactive DVEs running on Wide Area Network(WAN). The inconsistent anomalies are characterized as unpredictable, unrepeatable and uncontrollable, which results in the severe problem for the development of the consistency control approaches. Meanwhile, it is also highly expensive to directly verify the proposed approaches on WAN. Therefore, in this paper, we design and establish an original multi-layered emulation platform in LAN, which can emulate the network latency of WAN and repeat the scenarios of violations. On the platform, the designers of consistency approaches don't have to spend efforts to realize the fundamental functions of the verification, but could pay more attention to the development and optimization of the control algorithms, which is very beneficial for the improvement of message ordering approaches. © 2011 IEEE.

Event-driven programming has been a relatively hot topic in distributed systems development. Having worked on these systems for years, we now believe that it is not the best choice. Besides the well-known "stack ripping" problem, we argue that it greatly influences the composability of software modules. Preemptive threads are also short of composability because of data-races and locks. Lacking of composability can result in systems with little vitality. Cooperative threading (or coroutine), on the contrary, is almost free of this problem, so we advocate it as the primary concurrency model for most distributed systems. © 2010 IEEE.
