Merge-Weighted Dynamic Time Warping for Speech Recognition

Obtaining training material for rarely used English words and common given names from countries where English is not spoken is difficult due to excessive time, storage and cost factors. By considering personal privacy, language- independent （LI） with lightweight speaker-dependent （SD） automatic speech recognition （ASR） is a convenient option to solve tile problem. The dynamic time warping （DTW） algorithm is the state-of-the-art algorithm for small-footprint SD ASR for real-time applications with limited storage and small vocabularies. These applications include voice dialing on mobile devices, menu-driven recognition, and voice control on vehicles and robotics. However, traditional DTW has several lhnitations, such as high computational complexity, constraint induced coarse approximation, and inaccuracy problems. In this paper, we introduce the merge-weighted dynamic time warping （MWDTW） algorithm. This method defines a template confidence index for measuring the similarity between merged training data and testing data, while following the core DTW process. MWDTW is simple, efficient, and easy to implement. With extensive experiments on three representative SD speech recognition datasets, we demonstrate that our method outperforms DTW, DTW on merged speech data, the hidden Markov model （HMM） significantly, and is also six times faster than DTW overall.

Data distribution is a key technology for resources convergence and sharing in distributed environment. To better meet the requirement for real time data distribution in the dynamic network, a trace routing algorithm named CRAWL based on the hybrid two-layered topology is put forward. The algorithm contains an overlay topology named CBDLO, upper of which consists of multiple distributed balanced binary trees corresponding to different properties and the lower of which is an unstructured topology. CRAWL forwards the data on the lower unstructured topology in the form of random walk, so that the data can be sent to the corresponding upper topology entry, It also includes a matching algorithm named CDM for the parallel matching data properties on the upper distributed and balanced binary tree and transmitting the matched data to the nodes that are interested in the data. The experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively support large-scale data distribution in a dynamical network, reduce distribution overhead and matching delays.

Partitioning links rather than nodes is effective in overlapping community detection (OCD) on complex networks. However, it consumes high CPU and memory overheads because the volume of links is huge especially when the network is rather complex. In this paper, we proposes a symmetric non-negative matrix factorization (SNMF) based link partition method called SNMF-Link to overcome this deficiency. In particular, SNMF-Link represents data in a lower-dimensional space spanned by the node-link incidence matrix. By solving a lighter SNMF problem, SNMF-Link learns the clustering indicators of each links. Since traditional multiplicative update rule (MUR) based optimization algorithm for SNMF suffers from slow convergence, we applied the augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) to efficiently optimize SNMF. Experimental results show that SNMF-Link is much more efficient than the representative clustering algorithms without reducing the OCD performance.

Pervasive software should be able to adapt itself to the changing environments and user requirements. Obviously, it will bring great challenges to the software engineering practice. This paper proposes AUModel, a conceptual model for adaptive software, which takes adaptability as an inherent feature and can act as the foundation of the engineering process. By introducing AUModel, the reuse of software adaptation infrastructure as well as the separation of adaptation concerns are enabled, which can facilitate both the development and maintenance of adaptive software. This paper also presents our initial attempts to realize this model, including a middleware prototype to support this model and an application to validate its effectiveness. © 2014 IEEE.

Asynchrony based overlapping of computation and communication is commonly used in MPI applications. However, this overlapping introduces synchronization errors frequently in asynchronous MPI programming. In this paper, we propose a symbolic execution based method for detecting input-related synchronization errors. The path space of an MPI program is systematically explored, and the related operations of the synchronization errors in the program are checked specifically. In addition, two optimizations are proposed to improve the efficiency. We have implemented our method as a prototype tool based on the symbolic executor Cloud9. The results of the extensive experiments indicate the effectiveness of our method. © 2014 IEEE.

Feature representation has a significant impact on human activity recognition. While the common used hand-crafted features rely heavily on the specific domain knowledge and may suffer from nonadaptability to the particular dataset. To alleviate the problems of handcrafted features, we present a feature extraction framework which exploits different unsupervised feature learning techniques to learning useful feature representation from accelerometer and gyroscope sensor data for human activity recognition. The unsupervised learning techniques we investigate include sparse auto-encoder, denoising auto-encoder and *** evaluate the performance on a public human activity recognition dataset and also compare our method with traditional features and another way of unsupervised feature learning. The results show that the learned features of our framework outperform the other two methods. The sparse auto-encoder achieves better results than other two techniques within our framework. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

In this paper, we present a novel stochastic analyzing model for e2e virtualized cloud services using hierarchical Quasi-Birth Death structures (QBDs). We divide the overall virtualized cloud services into three sub-hierarchies, and then, analyze each individual sub-hierarchy using QBDs. Our approach reduces the complexity of performance analysis. Our results are useful to prevent the cloud center from entering unsafe operation, and also reveal practical insights into load balancing and capacity planning for virtualized computing environments. © 2014 IFIP International Federation for Information processing.

Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is a powerful dimension reduction method and has been widely used in many pattern recognition and computer vision problems. However, conventional NMF methods are neither robust enough as their loss functions are sensitive to outliers, nor discriminative because they completely ignore labels in a dataset. In this paper, we proposed a correntropy supervised NMF (CSNMF) to simultaneously overcome aforementioned deficiencies. In particular, CSNMF maximizes the correntropy between the data matrix and its reconstruction in low-dimensional space to inhibit outliers during learning the subspace, and narrows the minimizes the distances between coefficients of any two samples with the same class labels to enhance the subsequent classification performance. To solve CSNMF, we developed a multiplicative update rules and theoretically proved its convergence. Experimental results on popular face image datasets verify the effectiveness of CSNMF comparing with NMF, its supervised variants, and its robustified variants.

Cloud services must upgrade continuously in order to maintain competitive. However, a large body of empirical evidence suggests that, upgrade procedures used in practice are failure-prone and often cause planned or unplanned downtime. In this paper, we first define what is cloud service online upgrade, and then we analyze the shortcomings of current mainstream cloud service online upgrade mechanisms. In particular, the mixed version problem along with rolling upgrade and the capacity loss problem brought by split mode upgrade have been discussed. After that, we propose a solution called Delayed Switch, which can conduct cloud service upgrade with lower loss of availability and capacity in contrast with existing approaches. We prove the performance of delayed switch in theory and develop a prototype system applying this method. And by conducting experiments with a typical e-commerce service named Rubis, we validate the effectiveness and efficiency of our approach. © 2014 IEEE.

In China, the expressway isn’t free. When a vehicle exits, the exit toll station needs to calculate the toll according to the vehicle trajectory obtained by sending a trajectory query task to the trajectory center remotely. For the accurate of toll and keep the exit smoothly, transmitting the trajectory result reliably and in time is a key issue. There are three heterogenous networks in expressway, Fibernet, Telecommunications Network and 3G. We concurrently exploit three heterogenous networks by allocating the trajectory result into three sub-flows where each sub-flow is transmitted in one kind of networks. But existing multipath transfer solution(FMTCP) doesn’t consider the difference of completed time among all sub-flows and can’t make sure the completed time in time. Therefore, we formulate the sub-flows schedule as a integer programming problem, which is proved to be NP-hard problem, and propose a Completion time-aware Flow Scheduling scheme (CaFS) which calculates the size of sub-flows. For the reliably, it exploits generation-based network coding. For the transmission in time, CaFS allocates the size of sub-flow into suitable generation and scheduling the generations. The simulation results demonstrate that, comparing with the FMTCP, CaFS improves 31. 9% in completion time and 30% in task finished rate. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.
