Innovations in powerful high-performance computing (HPC) architecture are enabling high-fidelity whole-core neutron transport simulations at reasonable time. Especially, the currently fashionable heterogeneous architectures make the cost of such simulations at very low level. Neutron distribution of a reactor core is governed by the Boltzmann neutron transport equation (BTE), first viable solutions of which need tremendous computer resources. Among of the high-fidelity numerical methods, the discrete ordinates method (SN) is becoming popular in the reaction design community by taking a good balance between computational cost and accuracy. Recently, MT-3000, which is a multizone heterogeneous architecture with a peak double precision performance of 11.6 TFLOPS, is proposed. In this work, the BTE is solved by the SN with heterogenous Koch-Baker-Alcouffe (KBA) parallel algorithms based on the MT-3000 architecture. A communication mechanism has been established to efficiently transmit data among the acceleration cores and the CPU cores. The kernel computation procedure is largely accelerated by the vectorization and instruction pipelining techniques. Numerical experiments show that our formulation could achieve 1.37 TFLOPs with single MT-3000, that is 11.8% of its peak performance.

Outlier detection on data streams identifies unusual states to sense and alarm potential risks and faults of the target systems in both the cyber and physical world. As different parameter settings of machine learning algorithms can result in dramatically different performance, automatic parameter selection is also of great importance in deploying outlier detection algorithms in data streams. However, current canonical parameter selection methods suffer from two key challenges: (i) Data streams generally evolve over time, but these existing methods use a fixed training set, which fails to handle this evolving environment and often results in suboptimal parameter recommendations; (ii) The stream is infinite, and thus any parameter selection method taking the entire stream as input is infeasible. In light of these limitations, this paper introduces a Dynamic Parameter Selection method for outlier detection on data Streams (DPSS for short). DPSS uses Gaussian process regression to model the relationship between parameters and detecting performance and uses Bayesian optimization to explore the optimal parameter setting. For each new subsequence, DPSS updates the recommended parameter setting to suit the evolving characteristics. Besides, DPSS only uses historical calculations to guide the parameter setting sampling and adjust the Gaussian process regression results. DPSS can be employed as an auxiliary plug-in tool to improve the detection performance of outlier detection methods. Extensive experiments show that our method can significantly improve the F-score of outlier detectors in data streams compared to its counterparts and obtains more superior parameter selection performance than other state-of the-art parameter selection approaches. DPSS also achieves better time and memory efficiency compared to competitors.

3DMeshNet: A Three-Dimensional Differential Neural Network for Structured Mesh Generation

Mesh generation is a crucial step in numerical simulations, significantly impacting simulation accuracy and efficiency. However, generating meshes remains time-consuming and requires expensive computational resources. In this paper, we propose a novel method, 3DMeshNet, for three-dimensional structured mesh generation. The method embeds the meshing-related differential equations into the loss function of neural networks, formulating the meshing task as an unsupervised optimization problem. It takes geometric points as input to learn the potential mapping between parametric and computational domains. After suitable offline training, 3DMeshNet can efficiently output a three-dimensional structured mesh with a user-defined number of quadrilateral/hexahedral cells through the feed-forward neural prediction. To enhance training stability and accelerate convergence, we integrate loss function reweighting through weight adjustments and gradient projection alongside applying finite difference methods to streamline derivative computations in the loss. Experiments on different cases show that 3DMeshNet is robust and fast. It outperforms neural network-based methods and yields superior meshes compared to traditional mesh partitioning methods. 3DMeshNet significantly reduces training times by up to 85% compared to other neural network-based approaches and lowers meshing overhead by 4 to 8 times relative to traditional meshing methods. Prototype network-based methods have made substantial progress in few-shot relation extraction (FSRE) by enhancing relation prototypes with relation descriptions. However, the distribution of relations and instances in distinct representation spaces isolates the constraints of relations on instances, making relation prototypes biased. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end partial order-centered hyperbolic representation learning (PO-HRL) framework, which imposes the constraints of relations on instances by modeling partial order in hyperbolic space, so as to effectively learn the distribution of instance representations. Specifically, we develop the hyperbolic supervised contrastive learning based on Lorentzian cosine similarity to align representations of relations and instances, and model the partial order by constraining instances to reside within the Lorentzian entailment cone of their respective relation. Experiments on three benchmark datasets show that PO-HRL outperforms the strong baselines, especially in 1-shot settings lacking relation descriptions. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Space-time video super-resolution (STVSR) is a comprehensive task comprising two subtasks: video super resolution in space dimension and video frame interpolation in time dimension. Conventional decoupled two-stage approaches tend to overlook the intrinsic correlation between the two tasks. Overcoming this challenge requires the development of a unified model capable of simultaneously implementing space-time super-resolution across arbitrary scales. Most existing models are confined to training on fixed space upsampling scales or specific frame-rate videos, resulting in limited generalization capabilities for flexible space-time super-resolution scenarios. In response to this limitation, our approach draws inspiration from continuous implicit neural representation. We propose an enhanced Implicit Neural Alignment Network (INAN) based on the VideoINR framework, encompassing feature refinement, precise motion flow estimation, and multi-scale feature fusion to optimize the final implicit neural decoding. Our extensive experimental evaluations on multiple benchmarks underscore the efficacy of the INAN model, indicate its superior performance compared to prior STVSR methods.

In airfoil numerical simulation, the mesh quality has an important influence on the accuracy and error of numerical simulation. The existing mesh quality evaluation requires a lot of manual interaction, which greatly reduces the efficiency of mesh generation and necessitates the implementation of intelligent mesh evaluation methods. Graph neural networks can extract features from graph data, possess self-adaptability and generalization ability, and have been successfully applied in many industries. In this paper, we propose a deep graph neural network, SDeepNet, to evaluate mesh quality and construct a large-scale mixed mesh dataset, MixSet, for training and validating the model. We test and compare the performance of the mesh quality evaluation models GridNet, GMeshNet, and SDeepNet on the mesh dataset MixSet. The experimental results show that the SDeepNet model can achieve high accuracy and recall in the mixed mesh quality evaluation task. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) has become a powerful method in computational fluid dynamics and has drawn more and more attention in high-performance computing due to its particulate nature and local dynamics, especially on recent multi-core or many-core platforms. This paper develops a parallel software framework for 3D LBM simulation on a heterogeneous multi-zone processor, MT-3000. An improved pipelined algorithm named Pencil-H is proposed, which can not only fully exploit the advantages of each component of MT-3000 but also overlap the time of calculation and communication. Moreover, an architecture-aware multi-level parallelization algorithm is developed to fully utilize the computational performance of MT-3000. A benchmark test is performed to verify the reliability and test the performance of the LBM code. Experimental results show that the optimized code achieves a 32.02 × speedup compared with using 16 CPU cores and achieves a performance of 286.03MLUPS which reaches 72.3% of the theoretical peak performance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Accelerating Federated Learning by Selecting Beneficial Herd of Local Gradients

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning framework in communication network systems. However, the systems’ Non-Independent and Identically distributed (Non-IID) data negatively affect the convergence efficiency of the global model, since only a subset of these data samples are beneficial for model convergence. In pursuit of this subset, a reliable approach involves determining a measure of validity to rank the samples within the dataset. In this paper, We propose the BHerd strategy which selects a beneficial herd of local gradients to accelerate the convergence of the FL model. Specifically, we map the distribution of the local dataset to the local gradients and use the Herding strategy to obtain a permutation of the set of gradients, where the more advanced gradients in the permutation are closer to the average of the set of gradients. These top portion of the gradients will be selected and sent to the server for global aggregation. We conduct experiments on different datasets, models and scenarios by building a prototype system, and experimental results demonstrate that our BHerd strategy is effective in selecting beneficial local gradients to mitigate the effects brought by the Non-IID dataset, thus accelerating model convergence. B-mode ultrasound tongue imaging is a non-invasive and real-time method for visualizing vocal tract deformation. However, accurately extracting the tongue's surface contour remains a significant challenge due to the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and prevalent speckle noise in ultrasound images. Traditional supervised learning models often require large labeled datasets, which are labor-intensive to produce and susceptible to noise interference. To address these limitations, we present a novel Counterfactual Ultrasound Anti-Interference Self-Supervised Network (CUAI-SSN), which integrates self-supervised learning (SSL) with counterfactual data augmentation, progressively disentangles confounding factors, ensuring that the model generalizes well across varied ultrasound conditions. Our approach leverages causal reasoning to decouple noise from relevant features, enabling the model to learn robust representations that focus on essential tongue structures. By generating counterfactual image-label pairs, our method introduces alternative, noise-independent scenarios that enhance model training. Furthermore, we introduce attention mechanisms to enhance the network's ability to capture fine-grained details even in noisy conditions. Extensive experiments on real ultrasound tongue images demonstrate that CUAI-SSN outperforms existing methods, setting a new benchmark for automated contour extraction in ultrasound tongue imaging. Monte Carlo (MC) simulation plays a key role in radiotherapy. Since the simulation time of the MC program cannot fully meet the clinical requirements, we use the ARM-based FT-2000+ multi-core processor for parallelization, which provides an effective solution for accelerating MC dose calculation. In this paper, we implement and verify FT-DPM, which is an OpenMP-based MC Dose Planning Method on FT-2000+. FT-DPM utilizes the parallelism of MC simulation and the advantage of ARM architecture to achieve the parallelization on ARM architecture. Meanwhile, we optimize the original DPM program in terms of memory allocation, data structure and data type. The experiments show that, compared with the original DPM code, FT-DPM obtains very accurate results and reaches the maximum speedups of 155.94 times for the electron case. The parallel program based on FT-2000+ only takes 44.1 seconds to simulate the particle transport of 100 million times, showing good clinical application potential. In addition, the speedup and efficiency of FT-DPM running on different core counts are also discussed. © 2021 IEEE.
