Objective In this study, we utilized statistical analysis and machine learning methods to examine whether rehabilitation exercises can improve patients post-stroke functional abilities, as well as forecast the improvement in functional abilities. Our dataset is patients’ rehabilitation exercises and demographic information recorded in the unstructured electronic health records (EHRs) data and free-text rehabilitation procedure notes. Through this study, our ultimate goal is to pinpoint the specific rehabilitation exercises that can effectively aid post-stroke patients in improving their functional outcomes in basic mobility (BM) and applied cognitive (AC) domains. data sources We collected data for 265 stroke patients from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, accessed through the Rehabilitation datamart With Informatics iNfrastructure for Research (ReDWINE). Methods We employed a pre-existing natural language processing (NLP) algorithm to extract data on rehabilitation exercises and developed a rule-based NLP algorithm to extract Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC) scores, covering basic mobility (BM) and applied cognitive (AC) domains, from procedure notes. AM-PAC scores were collected at the initial rehabilitation visit and followed up at one and two months—key recovery periods. Changes in AM-PAC scores were classified based on the minimal clinically important difference (MCID), and significance was assessed using Friedman and Wilcoxon tests. To identify impactful exercises, we used Chi-square tests, Fisher's exact tests, and logistic regression for odds ratios. Additionally, we developed five machine learning models—logistic regression (LR), Adaboost (ADB), support vector machine (SVM), gradient boosting (GB), and random forest (RF)—to predict outcomes in functional ability. Indonesia is one of the biggest palm oil exporters in the world. For Indonesia to stay competitive in thepalm oil industry, the harvesting and evacuating process in its oil palm plantation need to be optimized. This research introduces machinerycalled as Smart Crane Grabber. This machinery can be used for automatic harvesting and evacuation process of oil palm fresh fruit bunch. To enable automation, Smart Crane Grabber is equipped with an Artificial Intelligencesystem for automatic ripeness sorting. TheArtificial Intelligence system developed for Smart Crane Grabber achieves 71.34% accuracy by using only 400 images as preliminary training data. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Information processing in biological systems is realized by the appropriate transmission of information flows over complex networks, such as gene regulatory, signal transduction, and neural networks. These information flows are affected by the input-signal characteristics and structural properties of network systems, such as the network topology, regulation rules, and intrinsic and environmental noise. Many biological networks frequently include several typical patterns called network motifs, which are considered to play important roles in biological functions. However, their information-theoretic properties, particularly the dependence of the information flows in each network on the input signal, remain poorly understood. In our previous study [Mori and Okada, Phys. Rev. Res. 2, 043432 (2020)], we developed a graphical expansion method to describe transfer entropy (TE), a measure of information flow, in Boolean networks in terms of multiple information pathways. There, the input signal was limited to a simple case, and the effect of the input-signal characteristics on TE was not clarified. In this paper, we improve our method to render it applicable to Boolean networks that receive input signals with arbitrary stochastic characteristics. Our formula expresses how TE is determined by the input-signal characteristics, the assignment of Boolean functions, and the noise magnitude. We find that, in both positive and negative feedback loops, TE hardly depends on the signal timescale. In contrast, coherent and incoherent feedforward loops show low- and high-pass filtering properties, respectively, for a time-varying signal, which is consistent with previous reports. The emergence of either low- or high-pass filtering is determined by the Fourier components of the Boolean functions on specific pathways transmitting information flows. Thus our formula reveals the mechanism of information transfer in network motifs and provides insights into the origin of information process

Lung cancer remains a significant global public health concern, being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Despite recent medical advancements, the disease still has a high mortality rate, making early detection and treatment critical for improving patient outcomes. Accurate prediction of nodule growth is key to early lung cancer treatment, but current assessments offer unclear indications of future growth, leading physicians to recommend costly and anxiety-provoking follow-up appointments every 3 to 12 months. To address this need, this study develops an ensemble deep learning approach that combines demographic data with existing CT images to predict whether lung nodules will grow, potentially reducing unnecessary examinations and easing the burden on patients. Our study, conducted on 862 patients with 1004 nodules, produced promising preliminary results with Accuracy, Sensitivity, Precision, F1 Score, and AUC of 0.66, 0.66, 0.67, 0.66, and 0.71, respectively. The proposed method provides a promising support system to empower patients to make informed decisions about seeking medical attention and helps physicians facilitate early treatment regimens, leading to improved patient outcomes and potentially saving lives. © 2023 ACM.

Sugarcane plantations in Indonesia are still managed in a labor-intensive manner, especially plantation-owned by farmers. Labor intensive means that every stage of work in sugarcane plantation management still uses manpower. One of the jobs in sugarcane plantations that requires a lot of labor is sugar cane harvesting. Trend changing in the workforce gender would affect the quantity and quality of jobs, which is determined by the workforce's capacity and the workload of the work performed. The result of this research was a sugarcane agricultural calculator that made it simple for farmers to measure manpower and transportation requirements in estimating harvest costs. Manpower and transportation of harvested sugarcane commodities were estimated through the workload approach, namely, crop production and manpower's ability to carry a load. These two components helped sugarcane farmers to determine manpower and transportation during the harvest. The final yield produced by the projected harvest labor cost would be known immediately.

With the increasing global demands of coffee, Indonesia need to increase their coffee beans supply and improve the quality to maintain its position in the international coffee industry. One of the most important coffeepre-processing, coffee bean roasting, is under developed in Indonesia. Indonesia coffee farmers prefer to use the traditional cauldron to roast their coffee beans. Roasting coffee beans using traditional cauldron is inefficient and resulting unequal roasted level for the coffee beans. In this study, we proposed atemperature control system based on fuzzy logic for coffee roaster machine. The system controls the temperature in accordance with the demanded roasting level. A thermal camera is attached inside the roasting chamber to monitor the heaton the roasted coffee beans. The thermal camera is integrated with a stirring mechanism to equalise the heat among the beans. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Deep reinforcement learning of event-triggered communication and control for multi-agent cooperative transport

In this paper, we explore a multi-agent reinforcement learning approach to address the design problem of communication and control strategies for multi-agent cooperative transport. Typical end-to-end deep neural network policies may be insufficient for covering communication and control;these methods cannot decide the timing of communication and can only work with fixed-rate communications. Therefore, our framework exploits event-triggered architecture, namely, a feedback controller that computes the communication input and a triggering mechanism that determines when the input has to be updated again. Such event-triggered control policies are efficiently optimized using a multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient. We confirmed that our approach could balance the transport performance and communication savings through numerical simulations. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Copper (Cu) has been excessively used for some valuable commodities and this creates environmental problems. The inorganic element becomes toxic when presents beyond the recommended tolerated concentration. Bacterial-based remediation is seen to be an excellent tool to overcome it as it reduces the copper contamination without yielding any other forms of contamination. There are some pivotal properties in the bacteria render them being considered as bioremediation agents against coppers contamination, namely bioaccumulation and biosorption. In the present study, we question if these bacteria could be clustered into a strong and representative proximity according to their functional properties. Mostly, bacteria are grouped based on their genetic profiles derived from the 16S rRNA sequencing. We propose that our K-Means clustering model can be employed to identify genetically-unlabelled bacteria. But first, a prominent reference should be developed and we are in this phase. We figured out the K-Means clustering model do not pull the same-genus bacteria into the same cluster. Instead, the model gathers into a proximity those isolates with similarity on a functional characteristic termed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), regardless their origins and their hierarchy in taxonomy.

Intersectional bias in hate speech and abusive language datasets

Algorithms are widely applied to detect hate speech and abusive language in social media. We investigated whether the human-Annotated data used to train these algorithms are biased. We utilized a publicly available annotated Twitter dataset (Founta et al. 2018) and classified the racial, gender, and party identification dimensions of 99,996 tweets. The results showed that African American tweets were up to 3.7 times more likely to be labeled as abusive, and African American male tweets were up to 77% more likely to be labeled as hateful compared to the others. These patterns were statistically significant and robust even when party identification was added as a control variable. This study provides the first systematic evidence on intersectional bias in datasets of hate speech and abusive language. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.
