Objectives: Ultraviolet (UV) exposure can hasten the aging process of the skin. The use of chemicals for anti-aging has long-term adverse effects. The natural ingredients of snake fruit (Salacca zalacca L.) are known to have bioactive properties such as polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, and caffeic acid which have antiaging potential. The study aims to ascertain the potential of S. zalacca Extract (SZE) as an antiaging agent by in vitro assay. Methods: The SZE compound content was analyzed by LC-MS/MS. SZE viability test on human skin fibroblast (BJ) cells was carried out using the WST assay. BJ cells were UV-induced as a cell model of premature aging. SZE 6.25, 12.5, and 25 μg/mL were administered to UV-induced BJ cells. The gene expression of COL1A1, MMP-1, FGF-2, and GPX-1 were analyzed by quantitative Real-Time PCR. Elastin (ELN), Hyaluronidase (HAse), Cyclooxigenase-2 (COX-2), 8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and Melatonin (MT) protein levels were analyzed by ELISA assay. The apoptosis of BJ cells was analyzed using flow cytometry. One-way ANOVA in SPSS Software was used for statistical analysis. Results: Treatment with SZE increased COL1A1, FGF-2, and GPX-1 gene expression and also decreased MMP-1 gene expression. SZE also increased ELN and MT levels in UV-induced BJ cells. After SZE treatment, the protein levels of HAse, COX-2, and 8-OHdG decreased compared to the positive control. SZE also succeeded in maintaining the lives of BJ cells and reducing apoptosis in BJ cells. Conclusions: SZE has the potential to be an antiaging agent by in vitro assay. © 2025 The Authors

Azadirachta excelsa, is a plant belonging to the same genus as Indian neem (Azadirachta indica), and its use as a pesticide is reported by few studies. Despite being a different species, it is expected to have the same biopesticide potential as A. indica. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the anti-termite activity of n-hexane and methanol extracts of A. excelsa seed kernel at various concentrations against Coptotermes curvignathus. The methanol extract demonstrated greater termicidal activity than n-hexane at doses test of 2%, 4%, and 8%. It also showed 100% termite mortality on the third day of administering the 8% dose. According to the gas chromatography with mass spectrometry data, the putative main components of the n-hexane extract were hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (18.99%), 9,12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-(16.31%), and 9-octadecenal (16.23%). In contrast, the principal constituents of methanol extract were patchouli alcohol (28.1%), delta-guaiene (15.15%), and alpha-guaiene (11.93%). Furthermore, limonoids profiling of A. excelsa methanol extract was determined using Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry. The number of limonoids identified tentatively was fifteen, such as 6-deacetylnimbin, nimbolidin C, nimbolide, 6-acetylnimbandiol, 6-deacetyl-nimbinene, salannol, 28-deoxonimbolide, gedunin, nimbandiol, epoxyazadiradione, azadirone, 2',3'-dihydrosalannin, marrangin, nimbocinol, and azadirachtin. They were the same as those reported in the seed and leaves of A. indica, but its largest component in A. excelsa was 6-deacetylnimbin. As a result, the presence of these compounds may be responsible for the anti-termite activity of A. excelsa seed kernel extract. Additionally, column chromatography of methanol extract yielded 6-deacetylnimbin, which was found to be antifeedant and termiticide against C. curvignathus. © 2023 The Korean Society of Wood science & Technology.

Based on the RISKESDAS in 2018 the prevalence of burns reached 1,3% of the total population of Indonesia and basen on WHO there were 195,000 cases of deaths due to burns every year. One clinical treatment for burns is to use hydrogels as wound dressing. Hydrogel wound dressing functions to absorb wound exudates, by keeping the wound moist. This study was conducted to determine the effect of adding oat extrac to the hydrogel methylcellulose-AgNPs. Hydrogel methylcellulose-AgNPs are mixed with oat extract, with an oat extract concentration of 0 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1 wt%, 1.5 wt%, and 2 wt%. The characterization carried out included XRD crystallinity test and SEM morphology test for the characterization of AgNPs, and it was found that 10.2% of AgNPs were formed and evenly distributed AgNPs. In addition, characterization of hydrogel wound dressing was carried out which included antibacterial test, cytotoxicity test, swelling test, and antioxidant test. From the results of the analysis it was found that the best variable methylcellulose-AgNPs-oat hydrogel was a sample with an oat concentration of 2 wt%, which had a clear zone diameter of 10.35 mm and was sensitive to bacteria, had a% viability of 2.206%, a swelling value of 71, 7%, and has an antioxidant value of 95%. It shows that the addition of oats can increase the cell viability because oats are antioxidants, so they can counteract the free radicals produced by AgNPs, but the addition of oats increases sensitivity to bacteria because oats also function as antibacterial. Samples with oats of 2 wt% have the best characterization even though they have not met the standard wound dressing.

Sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) is a form of proactive action taken by the company and its supply chain to remain competitive by introducing products and production processes that are environmentally friendly and socially *** Tetra Pak Indonesia as a company engaged in the processing and packaging for food and beverages, is committed to reduce the environmental impact of all operations and prioritize environmental aspects for each product and solution offered. Although there have been many sustainability efforts undertaken by PT Tetra Pak Indonesia, the perspective and implementation of its sustainable supply chain management has never been measured. This research was conducted to measure the perception and implementation of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) activities of *** Pak Indonesia, in order to add information about the development of sustainable supply chain management practices in Indonesia. Data were collected in two ways: in depth interviews and questionnaires. Based on the result of interview and questionnaire, *** Pak Indonesia gets an actual implementation index value of SSCM activities of 0.88, and has an overall perception index value of 0.85. This indicates that PT. Tetra Pak Indonesia is a company that has a perception towards sustainability and has actually implemented SSCM activities. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Multi SVM has long been one of the popular methods in classification, while DCNN has recently gained significant attention in image processing and pattern recognition. This research evaluates the effectiveness of Multi Class Support Vector Machine (M-SVM) and Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) techniques in classifying brain tumors. A dataset of 2660 3D medical images with dimensions 227 x 227 x 3; including Glioma, Meningioma, and Pituitary tumors, has been partitioned into distinct sets for both training and testing purposes. DCNN approach achieves excellent accuracy in identifying tumor names, with a training accuracy of 97.8% and 100% success rate in 9 experiments. The Multi SVM method demonstrates relatively good accuracy, with training accuracies ranging from 70% to 90% based on different kernel functions. These findings provide valuable insights for selecting appropriate methods in brain tumor classification and encourage further exploration of hybrid Multi SVM-DCNN approaches to enhance accuracy and reliability.

In agriculture, water management is crucial to reduce the amount of water used for irrigation. This study aims to develop an automatic plant irrigation system to be implemented in the Greenhouse of the Department of Computer science, IPB University. The system is made of solenoid valves and soil moisture sensors whose amount is adjusted to the number of plants. This automatic plant irrigation system was created to support the development of smart and precision farming in Indonesia. Irrigation is done automatically and precisely for each plant by using a solenoid valve and a relay. The system prototype has been tested with different soil moisture values. Experiment results show that the prototype has successfully read the soil moisture value and can do the irrigation properly according to the specified functional requirements. © 2020 IEEE.

One of the critical issues of using chlorophyll (Mg-Chl) as a dye photosensitizer in DSSC is related to a rapid decay of this material. Changing the alkali metal using transition metal ions could theoretically increase the stability of chlorophyll. In this research, the substitution of Mg2+ with Mnn+ ions (n = 2 and 4) in chlorophyll structure isolated from Gliricidia sepium leaves had been carried out. The column chromatography technique was chosen to separate the chlorophyll followed by modifying the metal centre using two different compounds containing manganese, namely MnCl2 and MnO2. The results show that there are differences in Rf values after substitutions, [0.90 (Mg-Chl), 0.81 (Mn2+-Chl), and 0.96 (Mn4+-Chl)]. The Soret bands experience a redshift from 330 to 338 nm for Mn2+-Chl and a blue shift from 411 to 401 nm for Mn4+-Chl while the Q band has a redshift from 665 to 668 nm for Mn2+-Chl but a blue shift from 665 to 526 nm for Mn4+-Chl. The obtained products have similar IR absorption patterns to Mg-Chl but differ only in its transmittance with slightly higher wavenumbers shifts. Shifting of UV-Visible and Infra-red characteristics indicate different molecular electronic nature of the obtained compounds. This implies successful substitution for the metal centre without damaging the structure of the chlorophyll. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

The amount of waste in Indonesia is estimated to reach 68 million tons in 2019, of which 9.52 million tons is a plastic waste. With this amount, Indonesia is ranked second in the world as the largest producer of plastic waste. One area that suffers from plastic waste is the coastal area. This plastic waste is difficult to decompose and cause environmental problems. Likewise, it happened on the Tambaan coast in Tambaan sub-district, Panggungrejo subdistrict, Pasuruan city. Currently, accumulation of plastic waste is evident throughout the coastal area. The accumulation of scattered plastic waste and its proximity to the residents' settlements has become a hotbed of mosquitoes and caused a pungent smell. The Serving Doctoral program at Universitas Brawijaya offers a solution to process plastic waste into fuel oil such as diesel, kerosene, and premium. The technology used was Muryani's distillation from Wlingi, Blitar Regency. The technology can change certain types of plastic waste to produce fuel. Karang Taruna Bina Hang Tuah was acted as a reliable partner to assist the implementation of the technology on site. This study aims to strengthen the capacity of Karangtaruna in Tambaan Village to be more concerned about the environmental problems of Tambaan beach by processing waste that has been polluted by plastic waste. The results of plastic waste treatment showed that 10 kg of dried plastic waste can be transformed into diesel, premium and kerosene with the efficiency value of 60%, 35%, and 15%, respectively. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Nano-fillers integrated into mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) present promising alternatives for organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN). In this work, our objective is to enhance OSN performance by incorporating terephthalate metal-organic frameworks (M-BDC, where M = Zr or Cu) into a P84 matrix to fabricate M-BDC/P84 composite MMMs. This work focuses on the influence of metal cluster variation on particle size, pore size distribution, and specific surface area of M-BDC, while systematically investigating the impact of M-BDC addition on OSN performance and underlying separation mechanisms. The synthesized membranes underwent comprehensive characterization using SEM, XRD, ATR-FTIR, contact angle, zeta potential, and thermogravimetric analysis. Significantly, all MMMs exhibited superior permeance and methyl blue (MB) rejection compared to P84 membranes. This enhancement is attributed to the improved interfacial contact between M-BDC and P84, as well as their effective dispersion within the membrane matrix. Interestingly, comparative analysis between Cu-BDC/P84 and Zr-BDC/P84 MMMs revealed the latter's superior permeance, attributed to its larger pore size and surface area. The resulting MMMs demonstrated outstanding MB rejection (>96.7%) with ethanol permeance of 21.5 and 19.0 LMH/Bar for Zr-BDC/P84 and Cu-BDC/P84 MMMs, respectively. Furthermore, the stable performance of M-BDC-based MMMs during prolonged MB/ethanol operation underscores their potential significance in the field of OSN, providing valuable insights for future membrane design and application. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

The contents of metals, total carbon, total nitrogen (TN), total organic carbon (TOC), and stable isotope composition (δ13Corg and δ15N) of sediment organic matter (SOM) were investigated to explore the sources and spatial distribution of metals and SOM in the surface sediments (Kaohsiung Port, Taiwan). Results showed that TOC and metals in estuarine sediments are high, gradually decreasing toward the port entrances. The δ13Corg, δ15N, and TOC/TN ratios indicate that SOM comes mainly from terrestrial sources. This study proposes a befitting model between metal pollution and toxicity risk index and SOM sources in port sediments by combining stable isotope composition, correlation matrix, and multiple linear regression analysis. The model indicates that the degree of metal pollution and toxicity risk in sediments are mainly affected by TOCterr content and SOM source. The results help to understand the influence of organic matter sources in port sediments on metal concentration distribution. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
