Continuing improvements in computing hardware are poised to transform capabilities for in silico modeling of cross-scale phenomena underlying major open questions in evolutionary biology and artificial life, such as transitions in individuality, eco-evolutionary dynamics, and rare evolutionary events. Emerging ML/AI-oriented hardware accelerators, like the 850,000 processor Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine (WSE), hold particular promise. However, many practical challenges remain in conducting informative evolution experiments that efficiently utilize these platforms’ large processor counts. Here, we focus on the problem of extracting phylogenetic information from agent-based evolution on the WSE platform. This goal drove significant refinements to decentralized in silico phylogenetic tracking, reported here. These improvements yield order-of-magnitude performance improvements. We also present an asynchronous island-based genetic algorithm (GA) framework for WSE hardware. Emulated and on-hardware GA benchmarks with a simple tracking-enabled agent model clock upwards of 1 million generations a minute for population sizes reaching 16 million agents. This pace enables quadrillions of agent replication events a day. We validate phylogenetic reconstructions from these trials and demonstrate their suitability for inference of underlying evolutionary conditions. In particular, we demonstrate extraction, from wafer-scale simulation, of clear phylometric signals that differentiate runs with adaptive dynamics enabled versus disabled. Together, these benchmark and validation trials reflect strong potential for highly scalable agent-based evolution simulation that is both efficient and observable. Developed capabilities will bring entirely new classes of previously intractable research questions within reach, benefiting further explorations within the evolutionary biology and artificial life communities across a variety of emerging high-performance computing platforms. The use of drones in modern combat is a new phenomenon of combat development. Various types of drones have been widely used in modern combat zones, such as reconnaissance drones, artillery fire correction, kamikaze drones, and drones for bombing missions. Since the development of drones for military purposes requires a long time and much money, many armies from various countries began to develop drones for combat missions by modifying civilian drones into drones armed for military needs. Many drones are modified to transport explosives to be dropped on the opponent’s position. In this research on Multipurpose Quadcopters with Multirole Weaponized System capability, a drone system based on DJI Mavic 3 is developed to lift cargo as munitions weighing 350 grams. The drone system can release munitions using a remote controller using the ADC reading of the auxiliary light on the drone. The ADC value is then read by the Arduino Nano microcontroller and used to drive the servo motor. From the test, the ADC threshold value suitable for reading the drone’s lights is 170 out of a maximum value of 255. The dropped munition system can read the attitude and movement when dropped until it hits the target. The munition moved stably when dropped from a height of 70 meters, and the oscillation did not exceed 2 seconds since the munition was dropped from the target. When dropped, the average duration of the munition did not exceed 5.91 seconds. The contact of the munition to the target did not exceed a distance of 1.02 meters from the aiming point.

Dispersion of Surface Floating Plastic Marine Debris from Indonesian Waters Using Hydrodynamic and Trajectory Models

Plastic waste has become the most significant component of marine debris, while research on traces of marine plastic waste related to the condition of Indonesian waters is still limited. Therefore, this study examines the movement patterns of plastic marine debris in Indonesian waters. Simulations were carried out for one year (2013) using the HAMSOM hydrodynamic and Lagrange trajectory. The approach treated the simulated particles as conservative particles floating at sea. Even though the percentage is small (±16%), Indonesia contributes to transboundary marine debris in the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and the South China Sea due to the influence of the south equatorial currents moving from north and south of Indonesia. Most of the plastic marine debris remains in Indonesian waters (±80-84%) and moves back and forth due to the influence of the monsoon currents. Therefore, the Java Sea becomes a crossing point and accumulates plastic marine debris. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Access to healthcare facilities is crucial in the present day. Healthcare facilities must be proportional to the population in a given area. Therefore, it is important to increase the number of healthcare facilities in regions where there is an imbalance. Proper planning and a sustainability review are necessary when determining locations for healthcare facilities. Environmental changes can affect the suitability of a location in the future. Thus, planning that can predict future suitability conditions is required to ensure that the built locations have high sustainability. This study predicts the suitability of healthcare facility locations in 2030 in West Java using remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). Both static and dynamic data processed at 30×30 meter intervals across West Java will be used. Geospatial and remote sensing data are utilized in the study. Dynamic parameter extrapolation uses data from 2000 to 2018. The random forest machine learning method is employed to obtain the suitability values for healthcare facility locations using existing health facility training data in West Java. The results show changes in the suitability classes of healthcare facilities in each region from 2018 to 2030, with some areas experiencing an increase or decrease in class. This research highlights consistently suitable locations, ensuring their sustainability as healthcare facility sites. © 2024

A hydrographic survey can be a cumbersome sometimes. The data can be sparse, providing it can be costly, and it took a lot of manpower and time. Space-borne data like multispectral images can be a helpful tool towards hydrographic survey, especially in the shallow water area. The company like EOMAP and TCARTA make use of Satellite-Derived Bathymetry (SDB) as a tool and product. Would it be great if it also can be applied in Malaysia, especially on the low-risk job or survey planning? Enlarging the survey area and providing a continuous and detailed water depth information is the main objective in this research. In order to complement with convenience and cost reduction, the author used Landsat 8 "(free downloadable images)"in this research. Structuring the procedure is the central part of the process involving pre-processing and processing step until the final product obtained. In this research, the author used various kind of bathymetry algorithms such as Single-Band Algorithm (SBA), Green-Band Algorithm (GBA), and Stumpf. Moreover, the author also uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA) tool from ArcMap and Spear Relative Water Depth: Log-Ratio Transform tool from ENVI to derived bathymetry. All of this bathymetry algorithm gives out a different concept with a different statistical approach. The final result then will be compared and evaluated with Single-Beam Echosounder data (ground truth). © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The Co–Fe–Nb materials system is a crucial material for magnetic applications. Despite its importance, the phase equilibria and thermodynamic characteristics of this ternary system have not been explored in detail. This study employs the Calphad method to model the phase equilibria of the Co–Fe–Nb ternary system. To obtain the ternary interaction parameters, the experimental data on the isothermal sections at temperatures ranging from 700 °C to 1300 °C was evaluated. These findings indicate that the Co–Fe–Nb system contains no ternary compound, and the (Co,Fe)7Nb6 phase exists as a single solid solution. Significant solubility of the third element in the binary compounds of Co2Nb (Laves C14) and Fe2Nb (Laves C15) is also observed. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, a liquidus projection of the system is presented, for the first time, revealing eight primary solidification phases in the Co–Fe–Nb ternary system. © 2024

Bioenergy is one of the renewable energies which is predicted to be a main energy in the next few years. It can play the important role to change the current fossil fuel-based energy into a green energy which has a low carbon footprint. A research about how to develop a bioenergy have been done by a lot of reseacher. However, especially in Indonesia, there is just few research to study about bioenergy from societal aspects poin of view such as the understanding and awarness of bioenergy among citizens. In this research, we have investigated senior high school students' knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes interconected to bioenergy with online survery. The survey instrument used in the study was adopted from P. Halder's study. The data was collected from students at senior high school th (SMAN 10) Jambi City. The results showed that the students awareness of bioenergy perceived from school, home, and social media have significant effects on their knowledge, perceptions and attitudes related to bioenergy. Among 211 students as respondent (N), we found 70.62% believe that they understand well the concept about bioenergy, 5.21% believe that they understand it very well, and the rest believe that they do not understand it. This understanding reflects to their willingness to use a bioenergy in their daily life, in which 71.70% respondents agree to use bioenergy, 25.47% respondents can not decide, and only 2.83% do not want to use it. To find the relationship among the variables, a multiple regression was conducted. A statistical analysis showed that the model for knowledge as a function of attitudes and perception does not fit the data therefore this model is rejected. However, both model for attitudes as function of perception and knowledge, and also perception as function of attitudes and knowldeges fit the data hence the models are accepted. In the context of bioelectrochemical systems (BES), a profound understanding of the taxonomic composition within indigenous microbial communities is crucial. Their metabolic versatility assumes a foundational role in dictating the functionality of BES, yielding diverse applications for bioenergy production and bioremediation in anthropogenically impacted estuaries. Employing high-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 region of 16S rRNA and predictive metagenomic analyses of three different estuaries samples (eutrophicated urban reservoir, mud volcano impacted river, and its river mouth), this study delves into the intricate interplay between these communities and their metabolic functions in response to human-induced perturbations, with a specific focus on their applicability to BES. Our findings illuminate remarkable distinctions among the three samples, manifesting in variations in microbial composition and functional metabolic pathways within the respective ecosystems. The mud volcano-affected river, characterized by the highest microbial diversity, exhibited the most diverse array of functional metabolic processes, prominently dominated by chemoheterotrophy (67.43%). In contrast, the river mouth displayed a distinct penchant for autotrophy (33.33%). The eutrophicated urban reservoir showcased a balanced coexistence of chemoheterotrophy (41.18%) and autotrophy (35.29%). Regarding metabolic potential for BES application, most of metabolism potential were associated with anodic activity, while cathodic activity was restricted to autotrophy and its relatives. The results suggested that the microbial communities anthropogenically impacted estuaries were potentially used for anodic and cathodic reactions in BES as electrogens to generate bioelectricity and reduce of pollutants. © 2024

This research aims to recognize the pattern of pulmonary disease on x-ray radiography image using artificial neural network (ANN) method. The images, which were used such as images of healthy pulmonary, pulmonary tuberculosis, and pulmonary tumour. Pattern recognition was using an extraction feature of GLCM (Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix) and back propagation method. Before being identified, the images were processed by median filter and adaptive histogram equalization. The GLCM features that used were homogeneity, energy, contrast, variance and correlation. The parameters were learning rate and hidden layer. Learning rate was 0.3 and hidden layer was 25. Back propagation training showed 100% accuracy, which all of 44 images were used had been successfully identified. From the result, the healthy pulmonary showed 60% accuracy, 83.3% for pulmonary tuberculosis and 100% for pulmonary tumor. Hence, the overall result showed 81.25% accuracy, which 13 of 16 images had been successfully identified. From these result, extraction feature of GLCM using back propagation method was capable to recognize the pattern of pulmonary disease. However, due to narrow range of the feature, this application may not be used optimally for comparing features in every category of images. Therefore, the further research is needed to determine the best features and parameters of training back propagation. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Work capacity of compost applicator on paddy field

The addition of compost (organic fertilizer) is essential to maintain agricultural land productivity. Nutrients have a role in plant growth and development, especially in paddy plants. The application of distributing compost (organic fertilizer) on agricultural land requires considerable energy and costs, especially if the land is large. In order to overcome this, an applicator is used to reduce costs and energy and streamline the fertilization process time. This applicator is specially designed to spread compost (organic fertilizer) to agricultural land with a certain dose. This study aimed to calculate the working capacity and efficiency of the compost applicator in paddy fields. The study was conducted by direct testing in the fields with three different speed treatments, namely at 2.71 km/hour, 3.38 km/hour, and 4.62 km/hour. The calculation results show that the optimum speed of the applicator in paddy fields is 2.71 km/hour. The working capacity obtained is 0.35 ha/hour for theoretical field capacity and 0.26 ha/hour for effective field capacity with a field efficiency of 74.74%.
