Recently, it was found that the case of knee injuries could reach a prevalence of 48 per 1000 peoples in one year, with 9% being categorized as Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries. The most common cause of ACL injuries is sports activities. Several strategies were used to heal this injury, such as a treatment, up to autographs bone graft surgery. Current research developments lead to the use of artificial ligaments to heal the ACL injuries which have many advantages over autografts. Thus, this present study aims to fabricate the artificial ligament using hydroxyapatite (HA)/collagen/polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber composites. Here, we try to determine the effect of variations of HA, collagen, and PCL compositions in the nanofiber composites by studying their crystal structure and mechanical properties (tensile strength). We use variations of PCL: HA: collagen compositions about of 50:45:5, 50:40:10, 50:35:15, 50:30:20, and 50:25:25 wt%, respectively, in the 10% w/v of solution concentrations. In this present research, the nanofiber was fabricated by using electrospinning method with a voltage of 23 kV, while, the distance between the needle and the collector of about of 15 cm. The XRD and tensile strength tests were used to study the effects of PCL: HA: collagen compositions. In the XRD test, we found that the PCL peaks were detected at 2θ = 21° and 23° and HA was found at 2θ = 31°. The PCL crystal size is found to be 47.82-86.87 nm and the degree of crystallinity is 24.31-36.87%. In the mechanical test, the Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) value was obtained in the range of 0.942 MPa-2.864 MPa. It was found that the PCL could increase the tensile strength. However, the obtained UTS value is still far from the UTS of the original human ACL value.

We report a density-functional coupled with vibrational calculation on justifying the isomerization pathway of cyclopropene to propyne. The idea is to present the pathway in energy level diagram which the transition state is ensured by tracking a particular mode that supports the cyclic bond breaking and triple bond formation to occur. This mode decreases along the pathway and disappears at the transition state. To verify the designed pathway, the activation energy of the isomerization is used to find the rate constant with respect to experimental data at 500 K and 700 K by using transition state theory (TST). At those temperatures, TST predicts the rate constant at the same order of magnitude with the experimental result. It shows that the trend between calculation and experimental data is qualitatively in a good agreement, which implies that the designed pathway is justified. Furthermore, this study can be used as a guide if one needs to construct an isomerization pathway. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved.

In the present study, the polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) was incorporated with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and titanium dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles to prepare PVDF-TiO₂-PVP composite membrane for Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) rejection from protein contaminated wastewater. The preparation of PVDF-TiO₂-PVP composite membrane was conducted by a non-solvent phase inversion (NIPS) process with varying PVDF weight percentages ranging from 16 to 19 wt%. The polymer concentration plays a critical role in the formation of composite membranes that is commonly overlooked. The primary goal of this study is to examine how the concentration of polymers affects the process of membrane creation, the ensuing structure, and the properties of these membranes. Presently, there is a restricted comprehension concerning the impact of PVDF polymer concentration in the fabrication of membranes using the NIPS approach, particularly for PVDF-TiO₂-PVP composite membranes. FE-SEM analysis revealed the lowest skin layer thickness and the number of macro-void formations in a PVDF composite membrane were at 16 wt% PVDF, compared to composite membranes over higher PVDF concentrations from 17 to 19 wt%. There were only slight variations in the percentages of individual elements across all PVDF-TiO₂-PVP membranes, yet the values were identical for C, O, F, and Ti. The viscosity was lowest at 16 wt percent PVDF (576.5 MPa s) and greatest at 19 wt percent PVDF (2054.3 MPa s). It showed that 19%wt PVDF viscosity increased fourfold higher than 16%wt. As the concentration of PVDF was increased, a related decrease in the surface porosity of the membrane was observed. The highest hydrophobicity with the contact angle of 79.62° of the composite membranes were detected at 19 wt% of PVDF loading. The maximum water flux (265.43 L/m²h) and BSA flux (250.31 L/m²h) were obtained at 19 wt% of PVDF loading. The lowest PVDF concentration of 16

The purpose of this research was to investigate the accumulation of plastic debris in the Wonorejo River Estuary, Surabaya, Indonesia. Visible plastic debris were collected from three (3) sampling points along the intertidal area of Wonorejo River Estuary. The correlation between sampling points (SPs) and the amount of the collected plastic debris (CPD) was analysed using one-way ANOVA. Result of one-way ANOVA showed that the sampling point was significantly affect the amount of the collected plastic debris (p2 from SP1, 375.97±16.72 g dry weight/m2 from SP2, and 291.13±36.28 g dry weight/m2 from SP3. The highest percentage of collected debris item was plastic bags (up to 57.90%), followed by bottle caps (up to 16.65%). The most identified plastic types were Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) (up to 73.13%), followed by Polypropylene (PP) (up to 17.22%). Understanding the accumulation of plastic debris in estuary is a fundamental requirement to conduct an advance research related to the marine plastic pollution and to determine further actions to solve this problem. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP sciences.

The production of low-cost solid adsorbents for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture has gained massive consideration. Biomass wastes are preferred as precursors for synthesis of CO2 solid adsorbents, due to their high CO2 adsorption efficiency, and ease of scalable low-cost production. This review particularly focuses on waste biomass-derived adsorbents with their CO2 adsorption performances. Specifically, studies related to carbon (biochar and activated carbon) and silicon (silicates and geopolymers)-based adsorbents were summarized. The impact of experimental parameters including nature of biomass, synthesis route, carbonization temperature and type of activation methods on the CO2 adsorption capacities of biomass-derived pure carbon and silicon-based adsorbents were evaluated. The development of various enhancement strategies on biomass-derived adsorbents for CO2 capture and their responsible factors that impact adsorbent's CO2 capture proficiency were also reviewed. The possible CO2 adsorption mechanisms on the adsorbent's surface were highlighted. The challenges and research gaps identified in this research area have also been emphasized, which will help as further research prospects. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

This study presents a new method for assessing bacterial leaf blight (BLB) in paddy fields using multispectral UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) data through patch fragmentation analysis. Unlike traditional pixel-based methods, which often fail to capture the spatial context, our approach treats pixels as objects and analyzes their spatial relationships to evaluate BLB severity. We used six patch fragmentation metrics derived from binarized vegetation indices to classify BLB damage scores using a random forest algorithm. This method achieves high accuracy (AUC of 0.938) with a 0.5-meter sampling window, offering a more detailed assessment than conventional pixel-based analysis. This study highlights the benefits of incorporating the spatial context and improving BLB monitoring and management. This innovative approach allows agricultural stakeholders to gain valuable insights into the extent and severity of BLB disease infestation, enabling targeted intervention strategies for disease management and mitigation. © 2024, The Authors. Rhinacathin nasutus, commonly found in the tropical regions of Africa and Asia, has demonstrated a range of pharmacological effects, including anticancer, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-Alzheimer, anti-tumor, anti-Parkinson, and hypolipidemic activities. However, reports on how its secondary metabolites inhibit α-glucosidase are scarce. The phytochemical investigation on the stems of Rhinacathin nasuthus resulted in the isolation and identification of a new compound (1) together with nine known metabolites (2−10). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques, mass spectrometry and literature values. The absolute configuration of 1 was determined through NOESY data analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy. All isolated compounds were tested for their yeast α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, exhibiting moderate to good activity. Notably, compounds (3), (4), and betulin (8) showed potent activity toward α-glucosidase with IC50 values of 10.8, 18.6, and 6.5 µM, respectively (the positive control, acarbose, IC50 93.63 μM). This study marks the first investigation of α-glucosidase activity for compounds 3 and 4. Therefore, these compounds were chosen for kinetic studies, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics to understand their mechanism. The results from both in vitro and in silico studies suggest that compounds 3 and 4 could be promising candidates for further research in the development of new α-glucosidase inhibitors. © 2024, The Authors. This paper attempts to optimise the single screw extrusion (SSE) process parameters for extruding polylactic acid (PLA)/magnesium (Mg)/hydroxyapatite (HA) composite filament, aiming for a final filament diameter of 1.75 mm to enhance process efficiency and output quality. In this study, the Taguchi method was employed to systematically evaluate how screw speed, nozzle diameter, material composition, and temperature affect filament diameter. The analysis demonstrated that screw speed, nozzle diameter, material composition, and temperature significantly affect the filament diameter. Under optimal conditions (94% wt PLA, 4% wt Mg, and 2% wt HA, 1.95 mm nozzle diameter, 6 rpm screw speed, and 175°C), the resulting filament diameter closely approached 1.75 mm. These findings enhance the fabrication efficiency and quality of composite filaments, with promising applications in advanced bone scaffolds. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a case study of reconstructing past landslide failure models in a napal geological formation by undertaking a series of geoelectrical tomographies and geotechnical bor-SPT surveys. study area is located in the National Artery Road 135 Kilometres, Majene-Mamuju, West Sulawesi. Geological formation found in the area is Napal Pambauang Formation. Massive ground movement is obviously detected in the area, and several landslide events have been occured in the last 10 years. In order to derive an effective technnique of mitigating the landslide in the area, past landslide failure models are needed to reconstruct. Therefore, 2D geoelectric tomographies survey combined several geotechnical bors were undertaken. A Framework of geophysics and geotechnical investigations was developed and implemented. The results show that slope failure models can be mapped, following unique patterns in the subsurface resistivity models. The finding slope failure models are well agreement with successive scarp patterns founded in the slope area. Past and recent landslides and future landslide are derived and this can be employed to design effective landslide mitigation strategies. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Online learning based on the viewpoint of electrical engineering department students

Online learning has become a new trend during the Covid-19 pandemic. These affect a lot of the students. The viewpoints of students from the Electrical engineering Department (JTE) Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) are important to increase the quality of online learning in the future. The purpose of this research is to find out the students' viewpoint regarding (1) online learning that has been running; (2) Eligibility of online learning to continue after the covid-19 pandemic; (3) Student opinion for the improvement of online learning in the future. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, by distributing questionnaires. The total respondents of this research are 90 students from JTE. The results of this study indicate that JTE students are satisfied with the online learning that has been carried out. Therefore, they hope to continue this even though the covid-19 pandemic is over. In conclusion, online learning in JTE has been good even though there are various opinions for future improvements.
