At present, the smartphone is equipped with several sensors such as Accelerometer, Gravity sensor, and Gyroscope which can be used to recognize human physical activities such as walking upstair and walking downstairs etc. Machine learning is needed to group data and get information. Statistical methods have poor performance in classifying because procedures must be met. To overcome this, an ensemble technique was used. This study proposes the application of the gradientboost ensemble method to classify walking upstair and walking downstairs. The *** system is designed for data retrieval using a smartphone. Then, the dataset will be partitioned into 70% training data and 30% test data. The results show that the performance of the ensemble boosting method produces 81.82% accuracy, 86.11% sensitivity and 77.50% specificity. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cocoa farming households carry out various livelihood strategies to maintain their survival. The decline in cocoa production is caused by pests and diseases, climate change, bad seeds, and the farmers’ cocoa plants are old. These constraints will affect the condition of cocoa farmer households. This study aims to identify the livelihood strategies and structures carried out by cocoa farming households. The method used in this study uses a quantitative approach using a questionnaire supported by a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews. The research respondents consisted of 30 cocoa farming households in Polewali Mandar Regency. The results of this study show that the livelihood strategies used by cocoa farmer households are engineering income sources and income diversification. The average livelihood structure of cocoa farmer households comes from the non-farm sector.

Biodiesel represents a renewable and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, offering notable environmental advantages such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, lower toxicity, and biodegradability. However, its conventional production, primarily via the transesterification of vegetable oils or animal fats, faces considerable challenges, including high production costs, limited feedstock availability, energy intensive processes, and competition with food resources, all of which impede its large-scale implementation. This review critically evaluates the potential of emerging non-conventional feedstocks and production methods to address these limitations and enhance the overall feasibility of biodiesel. Alternative feedstocks such as waste cooking oil, lignocellulosic biomass, and microalgae are highlighted for their abundance, cost effectiveness, and minimal competition with food production, with microalgae particularly notable due to their rapid growth and high lipid content, making them a promising third generation source. Concurrently, advanced production technologies including enzymatic catalysis, supercritical fluids, microwave-assisted, ultrasound-assisted, and photothermal transesterification are examined for their capacity to increase reaction efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and process low quality feedstocks. Noteworthy advancements, such as microwave assisted systems that reduce reaction time by over 99 % and achieve biodiesel yields exceeding 96 % under ambient conditions, underscore the potential for industrial scale application. By comparing conventional and non-conventional approaches, this review underscores the pivotal role of innovation in overcoming technical and economic barriers, offering a comprehensive synthesis of recent developments to inform future research, industrial practices, and policy initiatives aimed at fostering a more sustainable biodiesel industry.

Effect of oil palm fiber on physical and tribological behavior of unsaturated polyester-oil palm ash composite

Preliminary studies have successfully been conducted on the physical characterization and tribological behavior of oil palm fiber-reinforced composites based on unsaturated polyester and oil palm ash. In an effort to initiate segregation of composite particles, oil palm ash was used as a segregation agent to increase the surface roughness of the material. The composite preparation method was carried out using the hand lay-up technique for 1 hour at 100 °C. Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide was used as a hardening agent to increase the hardness of the composite. The composite that contained 10 wt.% oil palm fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester-oil palm ash showed the lowest porosity and highest density values compared to the other samples. The decrease in porosity and increase in density can be attributed to the incorporation of 10 wt.% oil palm fiber, which promotes increased segregation of the composite particles, leading to an overall volume increase. Furthermore, the increase in density results in a drastic decrease in the rate of water absorption. The sample with the optimal wear level also had the lowest value compared to the other samples, and this reduction in wear and tear is supported by the high coefficient of friction it exhibits.

Identification of the quality of premium and non-premium rice based on physical characteristics using artificial neural networks and digital image processing

Counterfeiting of quality rice was rife in Indonesia. This research was conducted to develop technology to identify differences in premium and non-premium rice quality based on pre-existing digital images. Artificial neural networks and digital image processing methods to identify premium and medium (non-premium) rice quality were applied in this research. Statistical analysis of this study used the SPSS program. This research is observation-type research. This research design uses an artificial neural network with uses 3 layers, namely the results of shape feature extraction on the metric, eccentricity, area, and perimeter parameters as input or input layers, hidden or hidden layers, and premium rice and non-premium (medium) rice as output or output layers. This research uses 52 images as training and 20 images as testing. The obtained image was taken at a distance of 25 cm. This research showed that the results of training using artificial neural networks (ANN) on 52 images obtained an accuracy of 92%. The test results using 20 images obtained 95% accuracy, 63.33% sensitivity, and 10% specificity. Based on statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test, it obtained the asymph value. Sig (2-tailed) < 0.05 indicates the difference between premium and non-premium rice using metric, eccentricity, perimeter, and area parameters.

Analysis of small island environmental carrying capacity in Panggang Island, Jakarta, Indonesia

To support continuity of life, information on the availability of natural resources is needed. Natural resources need in a region must not exceed their availability. Panggang Island is a small island with an area of 13.76 ha and a population density up to 4,388 people in 2019. The land use of the island is intended as a residential area. With a small area and dense population, the ability of the environment to support life in Panggang Island is concerning. This study aims to determine the carrying capacity of water and land in Panggang Island. Water carrying capacity analysis is carried out by comparing the amount of water resource availability with standard water needs. The Thornthwaite Mather method is applied to calculate the water resource availability. Land carrying capacity analysis is based on a comparison of the amount of actual residential land with minimum space requirements of each individual according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 03-1733-2004). The results showed that Panggang Island has a very low carrying capacity for water and land. The water and land carrying capacity index reaches 0.12 and 0.98 respectively. This shows that the demands of residential land and water in Panggang Island are higher than the resources.

By using the principle of circular economy, the value of products and materials is maintained and utilized as long as possible, so that the landfill can be limited as little as possible. Electronic devices that are no longer used sooner or later will end up at the final processing site such as landfills or incinerators, where they will release toxic material into the air, soil and water, whereas the circular economy concept for e-waste can also be applied. Therefore, this research aims to make a small to medium size e-waste collection pilot project within the scope of UNTAR and UPH industrial engineering students, with participatoryergonomic approach. The research method used is action research anddata collected includes the number of core team students' participation, the amount of participation outside the core team, the form of participation, the network created, the average length of time for e-waste storage before donating, the amount of e-waste per category. In this project there were 102 students involved and divided into 19 groups. Total e-waste collected was 738 pieces.

The effectiveness of Indonesia's fisheries policy to reduce illegal fishing

The sea has economic potential such as marine tourism, energy, maritime industry, marine transportation, marine building and services, and fisheries. Indonesia has fishery resources with high biodiversity and easily accessible (renewable resources). Indonesia's fishery production reached approximately 12.6 million tonnes, of which marine catch accounted for about 6.71 million tonnes, inland capture for 0.51 million tonnes and the rest is in aquacultures. In addition, Indonesia is facing the problem of illegal fishing by foreign fishing vessels from Thailand, Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Cambodia. Foreign fishing vessels conducting illegal fishing are not only found in the EEZ, but also in territorial and archipelagic waters. Based on the findings of this study, the illegal fishing policy has a positive impact by reducing illegal fishing activities in the short term and increasing fisheries stocks. However, negative impacts were also found, the national fisheries business has decreased by number, especially local fishermen business, so that fishermen are unable to optimize their capture fisheries activities. Some local fishermen benefit economically from illegal fishing, this is what causes illegal fishing activities to continue. The policies that have been implemented have not been optimal in ensuring that fishermen are more prosperous. A sovereign state not only owns the territory and defends it from foreign disturbances, but must realize the welfare of its people, including fishermen. The purpose of this research is to see the effectiveness of fisheries policies in Indonesia to tackle illegal fisheries and improve fishermen's welfare. Train is one of transportation mode is increasingly polular in Indonesia nowdays, although in developed countries this transportation has long been a very advanced mode of mass transportation. Problems due to railroad tracks adjacent to densely populated settlements cannot be avoided. Problems such as noise levels can interfere with the health and comfort of the environment, vibrations in the surrounding environment due to passing trains cause some damage to civilian buildings such as residents' houses and high rise buildings as well. This field study shows the potential problem due to mass train loading (Babaranjang) in Bandar Lampung.

This study aims to analyze the characteristic, feasibility, teachers' and students' responses of Hydrocarbon Chemistry and Petroleum (HCP) module based on the context of vehicle case on automotive engineering. Exploratory mixed method has been employed in this research. The research procedures used four steps including qualitative, development, quantitative, and interpretation step. The instruments used to collect the data consisting the three questionnaires, one open questionnaire to obtain the validation and two close questionnaires to collect the teachers and students' responses toward the HCP module. HCP module based on the context of vehicle case on automotive engineering program was yielded as a result of this reseach. The characteristic of research product was integrating between chemistry and automotive subject based on basic competence of curriculum and integrated by vehicle context in first chapter, concept map, activities, examples, and exercise. A group of experts consisting two lectures were confirmed that the HCP module has a correct chemistry content. A very good category was given as the response of the teacher. Moreover, the students response were very interest toward the HCP module. The students and the tachers could be utilize the HCP module as learning sources reference to gain a succesfull chemistry learning. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
