Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common lethal autosomal inherited disorder that affects all races and ethnicities in the United States. However, it is mostly predominant in the Caucasian populace accounting for about 80% of all CF cases. CF most severe complication can be referred to as pulmonary bronchiectasis and infections of the airways, nonetheless, the devastating effects of the disease have far-reaching consequences beyond lung damage. CF is a heterogeneous disease that is caused by mutations in Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene. The impairment or absence of this gene can affect multiple organs and systems and is characterized not only by chronic lung blockage, infections, and inflammation but also by exocrine gland dysfunction, intestinal obstruction, liver pathology, elevated sweat chloride concentration, and in males, infertility due to the congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens. To this end, we briefly explore the pathological effects of CF and how CF mediates the destruction of several critical organs in the body and some of the gene therapeutical approaches such as gene editing and viral-based strategies available for the treatment of this multi-organ disease.

The co-culture of microalgae and bacteria has emerged as an effective strategy for the production of bioactive compounds with antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, applicable to various industrial sectors. This exciting area of research has attracted growing interest due to its versatility and sustainable potential. The ecological interactions between microalgae and bacteria, mediated by the exchange of nutrients and chemical signals, promote the synthesis of novel metabolites or enhance the yield of already known compounds. Environmental factors, such as pH, temperature, light intensity, and cell density, play a crucial role in the efficiency of this process, directly influencing the production of bioactives. This article highlights the biotechnological potential of these co-cultures, exploring practical applications in the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and environmental remediation industries. In particular, it presents original findings and perspectives on species selection and metabolic efficiency in co-culture systems, contributing new insights to the field. Additionally, it discusses the technical challenges associated with large-scale implementation, such as the control of cultivation conditions and the optimization of production systems, like automated photobioreactors. With the development of new technologies and ongoing research, the co-culture of microalgae and bacteria emerges as a sustainable and innovative solution for producing high-value-added bioactive compounds. Compared to reforming reactions using hydrocarbons,ethanol steam reforming(ESR)is a sustainable alternative for hydrogen(H_(2))production since ethanol can be produced sustainably using *** work explores the catalyst design strategies for preparing the Ni supported on ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts to promote ***,two-dimensional ZSM-5 nanosheet and conventional ZSM-5 crystal were used as the catalyst carriers and two synthesis strategies,i.e.,in situ encapsulation and wet impregnation method,were employed to prepare the *** on the comparative characterization of the catalysts and comparative catalytic assessments,it was found that the combination of the in situ encapsulation synthesis and the ZSM-5 nanosheet carrier was the effective strategy to develop catalysts for promoting H_(2) production via ESR due to the improved mass transfer(through the 2-D structure of ZSM-5 nanosheet)and formation of confined small Ni nanoparticles(resulted via the in situ encapsulation synthesis).In addition,the resulting ZSM-5 nanosheet supported Ni catalyst also showed high Ni dispersion and high accessibility to Ni sites by the reactants,being able to improve the activity and stability of catalysts and suppress metal sintering and coking during ESR at high reaction ***,the Ni supported on ZSM-5 nanosheet catalyst prepared by encapsulation showed the stable performance with~88% ethanol conversion and~65% H_(2) yield achieved during a 48-h longevity test at 550-C.
