The incompleteness of speech inputs severely degrades the performance of all the related speech signal processing applications. Although many researches have been proposed to address this issue, they controlled the data missing conditions by simulation with self-defined masking lengths or sizes. Besides, the masking definitions are different among all these experimental settings. This paper presents a novel intermittent speech recovery (ISR) system for real-world self-powered intermittent devices. Three contributive stages: interpolation, enhancement, and combination are applied to the ISR system for speech reconstruction. The experimental results show that our recovery system increases speech quality by up to 591.7%, while increasing speech intelligibility by up to 80.5%. Most importantly, the proposed ISR system improves the WER scores by up to 52.6%. The promising results not only confirm the effectiveness of the reconstruction but also encourage the utilization of these battery-free wearable/IoT devices. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. In recent decade, the research in nanotechnology brought the idea of nanofluids which are highly conducting materials. Some important applications of nanofluids are justified in pharmaceutical industry, coolants in vehicles engine, preparation process of various medicines for treatment of fatal diseases like cancer, aircraft industry, latest heat exchangers etc. The ferro particles are special class of nanomaterial which attract variety of interest from the researchers. The objective of current research is to perform the investigation for heat and mass transfer subject to Carreau nanofluid to observe the enhancement of heat transmission phenomena. The induction of magnetic dipole has been observed for thermal transport phenomenon. The flow is causing by stretched surface. A simplified system is obtained by utilizing the dimensionless variables. Physical interpretation of results have been presented. Result showed that temperature profile in presence of ferrofluid fluid boosts up with escalation in thermophoresis parameter, while opposite behavior is noted for power law index. The concentration of ferrofluid showing declining behavior for Schmidt numbers and rises for thermophoresis parameter. © 2024

Due to the fact that large swathes on Earth still lack broadband communication coverage, especially in remote/rural areas and developing countries, there have been several attempts, starting from 3GPP Release 17, to lay out the architectural amendments needed for the integration of terrestrial networks with their non-terrestrial counterparts. Such attempts have led to recent projects regarding such integration that consider either 5G/5G-Advanced networks or more revolutionary approaches for the forthcoming 6G networks. In this manuscript, we give an overview of the architectural framework, technical innovations, and considered use cases of the Horizon Europe ETHER project.

In this paper, we propose multi-input multi-output (MIMO) beamforming designs towards joint radar sensing and multi-user communications. We employ the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) as a performance metric of target estimation, under both point and extended target scenarios. We then propose minimizing the CRB of radar sensing while guaranteeing a pre-defined level of signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for each communication user. For the single-user scenario, we derive a closed form for the optimal solution for both cases of point and extended targets. For the multi-user scenario, we show that both problems can be relaxed into semidefinite programming by using the semidefinite relaxation approach, and prove that the global optimum can always be obtained. Finally, we demonstrate numerically that the globally optimal solutions are reachable via the proposed methods, which provide significant gains in target estimation performance over state-of-the-art benchmarks. Discrete unified gas kinetic scheme for nonlinear convection-diffusion equations

In this paper, we develop a discrete unified gas kinetic scheme (DUGKS) for a general nonlinear convection-diffusion equation (NCDE) and show that the NCDE can be recovered correctly from the present model through the Chapman-Enskog analysis. We then test the present DUGKS through some classic convection-diffusion equations, and we find that the numerical results are in good agreement with analytical solutions and that the DUGKS model has a second-order convergence rate. Finally, as a finite-volume method, the DUGKS can also adopt the nonuniform mesh. Besides, we perform some comparisons among the DUGKS, the finite-volume lattice Boltzmann model (FV-LBM), the single-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model (SLBM), and the multiple-relaxation-time lattice Boltzmann model (MRT-LBM). The results show that the present DUGKS is more accurate than the FV-LBM, more stable than the SLBM, and almost has the same accuracy as the MRT-LBM. Moreover, the use of nonuniform mesh may make the DUGKS model more flexible.

Recorder is a multi-level I/O tracing tool that captures HDF5, MPI-I/O, and POSIX I/O calls. In this paper, we present a new version of Recorder that adds support for most metadata POSIX calls such as stat, link, and rename. We also introduce a compressed tracing format to reduce trace file size and run time overhead incurred from collecting the trace data. Moreover, we add a set of post-mortem and visualization routines to our new version of Recorder that manage the compressed trace data for users. Our experiments with four HPC applications show a file size reduction of over 2× and reduced post-processing time by 20% when using our new compressed trace file format.

Mobility, social interactions, and other human characteristics shall support Future Mobile Networks in routine prediction and resource management. This work investigates human-aware metrics supporting services or protocols leveraging opportunistic communication. These metrics represent different types of knowledge extracted from people routine present in their movements. Because of the strong routine component of human mobility, such metrics capture different but recurrent behaviors on wireless encounters between mobile users. We report the experience through a case study with a real-world dataset along with results from trace and metrics analysis. The results show heterogeneity in metric coefficients and contact occurrence and duration in different periods of the day, highlighting the need for characterising traces before their use.

Accelerating hydrodynamic simulations of urban drainage systems with physics-guided machine learning

We propose and demonstrate a new approach for fast and accurate surrogate modelling of urban drainage system hydraulics based on physics-guided machine learning. The surrogates are trained against a limited set of simulation results from a hydrodynamic (HiFi) model. Our approach reduces simulation times by one to two orders of magnitude compared to a HiFi model. It is thus slower than e.g. conceptual hydrological models, but it enables simulations of water levels, flows and surcharges in all nodes and links of a drainage network and thus largely preserves the level of detail provided by HiFi models. Comparing time series simulated by the surrogate and the HiFi model, R2 values in the order of 0.9 are achieved. Surrogate training times are currently in the order of one hour. However, they can likely be reduced through the application of transfer learning and graph neural networks. Our surrogate approach will be useful for interactive workshops in initial design phases of urban drainage systems, as well as for real time applications.
