A lot of problems in natural language processing can be interpreted using structures from discrete mathematics. In this paper we will discuss the search query and topic finding problem using a generic context-based approach. This problem can be described as a Minimum Set Cover Problem with several constraints. The goal is to find a minimum covering of documents with the given context for a fixed weight function. The aim of this problem reformulation is a deeper understanding of both the hierarchical problem using union and cut as well as the non-hierarchical problem using the union. We thus choose a modeling using bipartite graphs and suggest a novel reformulation using an integer linear program as well as novel graph-theoretic approaches.

The integration of cloud computing and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to create Sensor-cloud helps in extending the data processing capability and storage capability of WSNs. Knowing how weak WSNs are with regards to communication ability, how to collect and upload sensory data to the cloud in limited time has become an issue in Sensor-cloud. In the last decade, with increasing interest by researchers in the domain, a considerable amount of research works have been conducted and published in the research domain. The main objective of this study is to systematically review the current research on data collection in Sensor-cloud. Hence, the study also aims at identifying, categorizing, and synthesizing important studies in the field of study. Accordingly, an evidence-based methodology is utilized in this study. By doing so,43 relevant studies were identified and retrieved to answer the formulated research questions. The systematic methodology offers a methodical and rigorous study selection and evaluation process that is repeatable and precise. The result shows that research on data collection in Sensor-cloud is relatively consistent with stable output in the last five years. Ten proposal contributions were identified with System, Framework, and Algorithm being the most used by the selected studies. In conclusion, key research challenges and future research directions were identified and discussed for researchers to propose effective solutions to the existing challenges. Although research on data collection in Sensor-cloud is gaining some traction in recent years, the works in the domain are not sufficient and concrete proposals are needed to improve data collection. © 2020, CC BY-NC-SA.

Quality assurance (QA) is an important task in manufacturing to assess whether products meet their specifications. However, QA might be expensive, time-consuming, or incomplete. This paper presents a solution for predictive analytics in QA based on machine sensor values during production while employing specialized machine-learning models for classification in a controlled environment. Furthermore, we present lessons learned while implementing this model, which helps to reduce complexity in further industrial applications. The paper’s outcome proves that the developed model was able to predict product quality, as well as to identify the correlation between machine-status and faulty product occurrence.

The advent of reliable nanoscale memristive components is promising for next-generation compute-in-memory paradigms; however, the intrinsic variability in these devices has prevented widespread adoption. Here, we show coherent electron wave functions play a pivotal role in the nanoscale transport properties of these emerging nonvolatile memories. By characterizing both filamentary and nonfilamentary memristive devices as disordered Anderson systems, the switching characteristics and intrinsic variability arise directly from the universality of electron transport in disordered media. Our framework suggests that localization phenomena in nanoscale solid-state memristive systems are directly linked to circuit-level performance. We discuss how quantum conductance fluctuations in the active layer set a lower bound on device variability. This finding implies that there is a fundamental quantum limit on the reliability of memristive devices and that electron coherence will play a decisive role in surpassing or maintaining Moore’s law with these systems.

Plant diseases caused by various pathogens, such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses, lead to significant reductions in crop yield and quality. Early detection of these diseases is critical for preventing their spread and optimizing crop yield. Traditional methods of disease detection, while effective, often involve invasive or time-consuming procedures that may not provide real-time insights. This study investigates the use of Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography (SS-OCT) for non-destructive, high-resolution imaging to identify morphological abnormalities in fruit specimens affected by diseases. The research focuses on differentiating healthy regions, healthy boundaries, infected boundaries, and fully infected regions in apples. Using a 1310 nm center wavelength laser, the SS-OCT system captured detailed cross-sectional images of fruit tissue, revealing microstructural changes associated with disease progression. A qualitative assessment of the two-dimensional (2D) OCT images highlighted distinct layers in healthy tissues, noticeable structural deformities, and the merging of microstructural layers in the boundary and infected regions. Quantitative depth-profile analysis of axial-direction A-scan profiles further demonstrated the reduction and merging of intensity peaks correlating with tissue abnormalities in infected fruit specimens. These findings underscore the potential of SS-OCT as an effective tool for early disease detection in agricultural products, providing a means for timely intervention and optimized postharvest management.

In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the sensor nodes are often used to collect the data and send it to the gateway node. This real data are the most important and sensitive. If someone gets this data illegally, then there is no privacy. Thus, user authentication is most precious for securing this data over an insecure channel. To keep this important matter in mind, we have developed a secure authentication mechanism for WSNs. The proposed method is proved through BAN logic, which guarantees mutual authentication and session key agreement securely. The informal security analysis is also executed for the proposed mechanism to show that it resists various wicked attacks. Apart from this, the performance evaluation is also carried out along with other existing schemes in regards of communication and computation costs.

To improve traffic management ability, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are gradually upgrading legacy network devices to programmable devices that support Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The coexistence of legacy and SDN devices gives rise to a hybrid SDN. Existing hybrid SDNs do not consider the potential performance issues introduced by a centralized SDN controller: flow requests processed by a highly loaded controller may experience long tail processing delay;inappropriate multi-controller deployment could increase the propagation delay of flow requests. In this paper, we propose to jointly consider the deployment of SDN switches and their controllers for hybrid SDNs. We formulate the joint problem as an optimization problem that maximizes the number of flows that can be controlled and managed by the SDN and minimizes the propagation delay of flow requests between SDN controllers and switches under a given upgrade budget constraint. We show this problem is NP-hard. To efficiently solve the problem, we propose some techniques (e.g., strengthening the constraints and adding additional valid inequalities) to accelerate the global optimization solver for solving the problem for small networks and an efficient heuristic algorithm for solving it for large networks. The simulation results from real network topologies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques and show that our proposed heuristic algorithm uses a small number of controllers to manage a high amount of flows with good performance. The workshop program of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's Fourteenth International Conference on Web and Social Media was held June 8 to 20, 2020. The 2024 Quantum computing, Math and Physics Camp (QCaMP) for Students was a 4-week long summer camp aimed at introducing high school students to quantum concepts and careers, including applications spanning quantum computing, sensing, and communication. The program ran for 7 hours/day, Monday–Friday, July 1–26, and included hands-on modules and activities, professional development, and project-based learning.
