Face recognition is a bio-metric technology that has been widely adopted for security, authentication, and identification. In recent years, face recognition systems have also been used for attendance management in educational institutions and offices. This paper presents a face recognition-based attendance management system that is designed to replace the time-consuming and error-prone manual attendance process. The system comprises four key phases: database creation, face detection, face recognition, and attendance updating. The initial phase involves the creation of a comprehensive database of images of the students in the class. Subsequently, the system employs the HAAR-Cascade classifier for face detection and the Local Binary Pattern Histogram algorithm for face recognition. The system accurately detects and recognizes faces in real time by analyzing the live video stream from the classroom. Finally, at the conclusion of each session, the attendance records are compiled and stored in a CSV file. The presented system has been validated on a dataset of 100 students. The results show that the system can achieve an accuracy of over 90%. The system is also able to handle variations in lighting and facial expressions. The implementation of this face recognition-based attendance management system can enhance operational efficiency, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure more accurate attendance tracking.

This paper highlights the technical achievements and presents the in-flight experience of one of the first successful 3U nanosatellite mission in medium earth orbit (MEO) in Europe, TRISAT-R. TRISAT-R is an institutional non-commercial nanosatellite mission primed by the University of Maribor under the contract with ESA and in cooperation with CERN and Slovenian company SkyLabs. The primary mission objective is measurement of ionizing radiation and characterization of the space environment, consolidating the environmental models by comparing the simulated high energy particles particle environment with the measured data in orbit. The radiation measurements are conducted with several scientific payloads to monitor the Single Event Effects and Total Ionizing Dose. The secondary mission objectives are several In-Orbit demonstrations to show new solutions for nanosatellite component miniaturization, testing new design concepts, and demonstrating new Radiation Hardened by Design mitigation techniques for protection of high-performance and high-density electronic components, and targeting the upcoming era of Artificial Intelligence in space applications. Additionally, the satellite was equipped with two highly miniaturized experimental COTS cameras capturing the black Sun effect, which is a consequence of pixel spillover due to Sun’s energy saturation. These cameras captured a view of the Earth from MEO orbit by the 3U nanosatellite. © 2025 The Authors.

Nowadays, retweeting behavior is considered a substantial behavior to analyze information diffusion in the microblogging network. To understand the underlying mechanism of information diffusion and analyze the evolution of the diffusion corresponding to a given original microblog, user retweeting behavior prediction has recently gained considerable attention. In this paper firstly, we introduce the most influential factors which affect user retweeting behavior and propose an effective measurement based on the random walk model to measure the social influence. Secondly, by incorporating our defined influential factors into a logistic regression classifier model, we predict the future activated user set concerning the diffusion of a given original microblog at the next time point. Unlike other comparative models, our prediction model can illustrate the evolution of diffusion and predict the retweeting behavior of all potential users through the diffusion of any original microblog in the microblogging network. Finally, based on the real Twitter microblogging dataset, the experimental results show by the contribution of our defined influential factors and presenting an effective measure of the social influence factor, we can obtain more accurate predictions in comparison to other baseline methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) knacks are exploited broadly by the research community in the field of engineering and technology to enhance efficacy of the outputs for rapid development of business and society. Therefore, it looks promising to explore or investigate in the novel AI-based integrated numerical computing to study the solution dynamic of computational fluid mechanics problem of utmost significance. Boundary layer methodology is invoked for the mathematical modeling of fluidic system to study the heat and mass transport improvement of nanofluid with base water 3D-MHD flow model with an exponentially stretched surface involving three types of nanoparticles Fe₃O₄ (magnetite), Ag (silver) and C₁₄₀H₄₂O₂₀ (graphene oxide). The representative 3D PDEs for nanofluidic system are converted into equivalent nonlinear ODE-based system via suitable similarity transformation. The results of the three nanofluidic models are calculated by applying Adams numerical technique for influential outcomes of aggressing parameters including Hartmann number M, wall stretching ratio P, thermal radiation R_d and heat source/sink hs to observe the effecting profiles of temperature and velocity fields. The obtained numerical data are utilized for Bayesian regularization knack-based intelligent computing method to construct the networks for approximate solution dynamic of nanofluidic models. The worth and value of designed Bayesian regularization knack-based networks (BRKNs) is established by regression index measurements, error histogram studies and convergence curves with negligible level of mean square error (E-12 to E-10) for the exhaustive simulations. In this research, a telecommunication standard fiber Bragg grating is sputtered with a 45 nm gold film to obtain surface plasmon resonance. Carbon nanotubes are deposited over the gold layer for sensitivity enhancement due to its unique chemical and optical properties. The developed sensor is interrogated with a broad-spectrum light source and spectrophotometer setup in the visible region and the sensing performance is analyzed. The sensor showed high sensitivity of 526 nm/RIU which was more than 4 time higher than a sensor without the carbon nanotubes enhancement. This shows great promise in the application of CNTs and possibly other sensitive nanomaterials as sensing enhancements of future sensing using optical fibers. © 2023 IEEE.

The moving picture experts group (MPEG) immersive video (MIV) technology has been actively developed and standardized to efficiently deliver immersive video to viewers in order for them to experience immersion and realism in various realistic and virtual environments. Such services are provided by MIV technology, which uses multiview videos as input. The pruning process, which is an important component of MIV technology, reduces interview redundancy in multiviews videos. The primary aim of the pruning process is to reduce the amount of data that available video codec must handle. In this study, two approaches are presented to improve the existing pruning algorithm. The first method determines the order in which images are pruned. The amount of overlapping region between the source views is then used to determine the pruning order. The second method considers global region-wise color similarity to minimize matching ambiguity when determining the pruning area. The proposed methods are evaluated under common test condition of MIV, and the results show that incorporating the proposed methods can improve both objective and subjective quality. 1225-6463/$ © 2021 ETRI
