Despite the stern actions by governments, road accidents have become unavoidable throughout the world. Hence it is crucial to take care of the safety of drivers. It is where the Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) comes in to the picture, it has paved way for the introduction of a lot of applications, based on the inter-vehicle based communications and infrastructure based communications, which safeguards the drivers and regulates the influx of traffic. However, in order to successfully employ the VANET, the following aspects are mandatory: consistent network procedures, safe means of communication, wireless network with acceptable range and above all support from drivers. Basically, the VANETs are employed in two distinctive communications backgrounds. The traffic condition is very simple in highways but in cities and towns it is very complex. Due to the obstruction caused by the buildings, trees and other obstacles in cities, it is not always possible to have a direct line of communications in the direction of projected data communication. This paper is aimed at studying the routing protocols based on the communication environments of VANET. This study also summarizes and compares the advancements of the VANET protocols. In this Rapid Communication, we consider the open problem of the minimum cost of two-qubit gates for simulating the Toffoli gate and show that five two-qubit gates are necessary. Before our work, it was known that five two-qubit gates are sufficient to implement the Toffoli gate, and numerical evidence indicates that five two-qubit gates are also necessary. The idea introduced here can also be used to solve the problem of optimal simulation of Deutsch three-qubit gates.

The importance of the small to medium enterprise (SME) sector as the cornerstone of most economies is widely recognised. This is not only borne out by the number of SMEs (almost 90% of the total number of businesses across the world), but also by their significant role in creating employment opportunities. SMEs are considered to be the only realistic employment opportunity for those in lower income brackets, especially women in developing countries. However, studies also show that there are inherent issues impede the growth of female-owned SMEs, particularly those in rural areas in developing countries. Among others are the difficulties in accessing financial assistance to set up a business, the child-rearing obligation which limits women's mobility and access to information of the available market. Electronic commerce (e-commerce), on the other hand, has radically changing the dynamics of the business environment and the way in which people and organizations are conducting business with one another. For SMEs, e-commerce has the potential to become a source of competitive advantage. E-commerce is a cost effective way of accessing customers globally and competing on par with large businesses. Despite the many benefits of e-commerce, little research has been done to investigate the role of e-commerce in mitigating the location and gender specific barriers to SME growth. Therefore, it is the aim of this study to address such gap in the literature, as well as to identify strategy that can be used to stimulate the development of female-owned SMEs in urban and rural developing countries, using Indonesia as case study.

The perceived usefulness of a Clinical Data Repository (CDR) prototype in a hospital setting was assessed by clinicians to determine whether they would find it helpful for their clinical and research work. The CDR automatically collects and stores clinical data in real time from patient monitoring devices, clinical information systems, laboratory systems, and the Health Records Department in a de-identified, easily extractable format for secondary uses. A secure online survey was distributed to physicians, research institute investigators, and research institute coordinators at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) through email. According to the survey responses, participants felt the CDR was a useful tool, showed interest in it, and thought it would be important to have for future work. To illustrate how the CDR could be used in a clinical setting we have provided a sample clinical application;a tool for engaging physicians and parents in discussion about the clinical progress and prognosis of infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). © 2013 IEEE.

The quantification of the ultrasound images requires resolution of the ultrasound probe and image knowledge. However, only little information are available for ultrasound resolution where most of the publications used the physical information (frequency, band width and velocity of sound in tissue) to estimate the resolution. In this work, the experiment has been conducted to estimate the real size of objects acquired by three dimensional ultrasound imaging system. Then the predicated resolution has been used as a factor to measure heart ventricle stroke volume acquired using real time 3D echocardiography imaging system (ie33 Philips, X7-2t transducer) with the absence of the probe's physical information. Results: the results were validated by experts and the successful rates were acceptable with high accuracy. The finding of this experiment is useful for the researchers, where they can estimate the real size of any object (organ) acquired by 3D ultrasound X7-2t transducer, as it used as tool in our research to measure the ventricle volume.

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks are emerging class of Mobile Ad hoc Networks that provide wireless communication between vehicles with no need for any fixed infrastructure. It is proven that in highly dynamic vehicular environments beaconless position-based forwarding algorithms are more suitable than the algorithms that use periodic beacon information in their forwarding decisions. However, data packet broadcasting in forwarding mechanism of these algorithms leads to packet duplications in both forwarding area and the destination node and consequently increases the network overhead and wastes available bandwidth. In this paper we propose a new beaconless forwarding algorithm called CBBPF in which data packets are not broadcasted to the neighbors to avoid duplication. The simulative performance evaluation results in highway scenarios show that CBBPF operates properly in terms of packet delivery ratio and average end-to-end delay.

3-D Networks-on-Chip (NoC) emerge as a potent solution to address both the interconnection and design complexity problems facing future Multiprocessor System-on-Chips (MPSoCs). Effective run-time mapping on such 3-D NoC-based MPSoCs can be quite challenging, as the arrival order and task graphs of the target applications are typically not known a priori, which can be further complicated by stringent energy requirements for NoC systems. This paper thus presents an energy-aware run-time incremental mapping algorithm (ERIM) for 3-D NoC which can minimize the energy consumption due to the data communications among processor cores, while reducing the fragmentation effect on the incoming applications to be mapped, and simultaneously satisfying the thermal constraints imposed on each incoming application. Specifically, incoming applications are mapped to cuboid tile regions for lower energy consumption of communication and the minimal routing. Fragment tiles due to system fragmentation can be gleaned for better resource utilization. Extensive experiments have been conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm ERIM, and the results are compared against the optimal mapping algorithm (branch-and-bound) and two heuristic algorithms (TB and TL). The experiments show that ERIM outperforms TB and TL methods with significant energy saving (more than 10%), much reduced average response time, and improved system utilization. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York & Science Press, China.

The McCracken et al. working group paper is often cited for the proposition that students can't program. In that study, students from four different institutions were each assigned to implement one of three versions of a calculator. More than half of the students failed to produce a program that compiled and executed in the time assigned. Lost in this discussion, however, is the fact that the original paper had the goal of evaluating its instrument, as well as the students. We examine and adjust their instrument, and present the results of the revised study. With a modified instrument, we have obtained significantly improved results. Copyright © 2013 ACM.
