This paper characterizes distributed XML processing on networking nodes. XML documents are sent from a client node to a server node through relay nodes, which process the documents before arriving at the server. According as the node topology, the XML documents are processed in a pipelining manner or a parallel fashion. We evaluate distributed XML processing with synthetic and realistic XML documents on real and virtual environments. Characterization of well-formedness and grammar validation processing via pipelining and parallel models reveals inherent advantages of the parallel processing model.

A search is presented for pair production of a new heavy quark (Q) that decays into a W boson and a light quark (q) in the final state where one W boson decays leptonically (to an electron or muon plus a neutrino) and the other W boson decays hadronically. The analysis is performed using an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1 of pp collisions at s=8 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence of QQ¯ production is observed. New chiral quarks with masses below 690 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming BR(Q→Wq)=1. Results are also interpreted in the context of vectorlike quark models, resulting in the limits on the mass of a vectorlike quark in the two-dimensional plane of BR(Q→Wq) versus BR(Q→Hq).

Searches for both resonant and nonresonant Higgs boson pair production are performed in the hh→bbττ, γγWW* final states using 20.3 fb−1 of pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of their production is observed and 95% confidence-level upper limits on the production cross sections are set. These results are then combined with the published results of the hh→γγbb, bbbb analyses. An upper limit of 0.69 (0.47) pb on the nonresonant hh production is observed (expected), corresponding to 70 (48) times the SM gg→hh cross section. For production via narrow resonances, cross-section limits of hh production from a heavy Higgs boson decay are set as a function of the heavy Higgs boson mass. The observed (expected) limits range from 2.1 (1.1) pb at 260 GeV to 0.011 (0.018) pb at 1000 GeV. These results are interpreted in the context of two simplified scenarios of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Parents are often worried when their children have learning problems. Children with learning disabilities can have normal range intellectual quotient (IQ) but they may still have teachers and parents concerned about their capacity to assimilate new material and to develop skills. Often, these children may try very hard to follow instructions and to concentrate to reach good results. Yet, despite this effort, they fall behind. Therefore, it is very important to spread awareness in the society of the importance of the early intervention to help children with learning disabilities in their early stages in order to improve and enhance their learning capabilities. This can be done through adaptive, intelligent and informative ways. This paper contributes an intelligent web-based adaptive serious games system that helps children with learning disabilities at the kindergarten stage and through the early stages of primary education. The system targets children with normal IQ and relies on two valid tests; one for the IQ and one for diagnosis purposes. The latter is used to diagnose developmental disabilities for preschool age. This test serves as a basis for knowledge engineering for the developed rule-based inference engine.

A search for the decays of the Higgs and Z bosons to J/ψγ and ϒ(nS)γ (n=1,2,3) is performed with pp collision data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 20.3 fb−1 collected at s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed above expected backgrounds and 95% C.L. upper limits are placed on the branching fractions. In the J/ψγ final state the limits are 1.5×10−3 and 2.6×10−6 for the Higgs and Z boson decays, respectively, while in the ϒ(1S,2S,3S)γ final states the limits are (1.3,1.9,1.3)×10−3 and (3.4,6.5,5.4)×10−6, respectively.

Multi-tier data centers have become a norm for hosting modern Internet applications as they provide a flexible, modular, scalable and high performance environment. However, these benefits come at a price of the economic dent incurred in powering and cooling these large hosting centers. Energyefficiency, performance, power utilization and environmental considerations become critical considerations in designingand implementing large, cluster-based multi-tier data centers for supporting a multitude of services. Tierperformance standards are key features for comparing the capabilities of a particular design topology against others or to compare group of data centers. This paper proposes to categorize data centers in four tier level categories depending on different parameters like performance, facilities, throughput, and subsystems in data center. The proposed technique helps to measure the performance and efficiency accurately and resourcefully. The classification helps technical and non-technical data center managers in identifying the anticipated performance of site infrastructure and design topologies equipped with latest data center standards to measure the performance and efficiency in terms of energy utilization and emission of greenhouse gases very hazardous for environmental sustainability and global warming. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.

Internet Bad Neighborhoods have proven to be an innovative approach for fighting spam. They have also helped to understand how spammers are distributed on the Internet. In our previous works, the size of each bad neighborhood was fixed to a /24 subnetwork. In this paper, however, we investigate if it is feasible to aggregate Internet bad neighborhoods not only at /24, but to any network prefix. To do that, we propose two different aggregation strategies: fixed prefix and variable prefix. The motivation for doing that is to reduce the number of entries in the bad neighborhood list, thus reducing memory storage requirements for intrusion detection solutions. We also introduce two error measures that allow to quantify how much error was incurred by the aggregation process. An evaluation of both strategies was conducted by analyzing real world data in our aggregation prototype.

This paper presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a research work for developing an automatic person identification system using voice biometric. The developed automatic person identification system mainly used toolboxes provided by MATLAB environment. To extract features from voice signals, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) technique was applied producing a set of feature vectors. Subsequently, the system uses the Vector Quantization (VQ) for features training and classification. In order to train and test the developed automatic person identification system, an in-house voice database is created, which contains recordings of 100 persons' usernames (50 males and 50 females) each of which is repeated 30 times. Therefore, a total of 3000 utterances are collected. This paper also investigates the effect of the persons' gender on the overall performance of the system. The voice data collected from female persons outperformed those collected from the male persons, whereby the system obtained average recognition rates of 94.20% and 91.00% for female and male persons, respectively. Overall, the voice based system obtained an average recognition rate of 92.60% for all persons.
