Lack of hearing ability hinders deaf children from mastering grammar in language studies. Unfortunately, such software targeting Malay language is limited. This paper attempts to generate new approach in handling such software. These include detection of defects when switching into local languages, date format and accommodating the local laws. The acceptance of international software for local use goes beyond just these aspects. For this purpose, software that supports the multi-languages is evaluated. The main research question of this paper: The lack of cultural dimensions in localisation testing of assistive technology decreases the effectiveness of localisation testing of the localised software. On the account of cultural dimensions, Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions will be experimented to study which cultural dimensions are most suited for such software. From our empirical results, the failure rate of the testing is higher compared to incorporating culture dimensions. © 2011 IEEE.

Testing is a very important task to build error free software. Usually, the resources and time to market a software product is limited, hence, it is impossible to perform exhaustive test i.e., to test all combinations of input data. Pairwise (2way) test data generation approach supports higher reduction of exhaustive numbers as well as low cost and effective. In pairwise approach, most of the software faults are caused by unusual combination of input data. Hence, optimization in terms of number of generated test-cases and execution time is in demand. This paper proposes an enhanced pairwise search approach (PS2Way) of input values for optimum test data generation. This approach searches the most coverable pairs by pairing parameters and adopts one-test-at-a-time strategy to construct final test suites. PS2Way is effective in terms of number of generated test cases and execution time compared to other existing strategies. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

To reduce the number of test cases in an acceptable level, it is preferable to use higher interaction level (t way, where t ≥ 2). Pairwise (2-way or t = 2) interaction can find most of the software faults. This paper proposes an effective random search based pairwise test data generation algorithm named R2Way to optimize the number of test cases. Java program has been used to test the performance of the algorithm. The algorithm is able to support both uniform and non-uniform values effectively with performance better than the existing algorithms/tools in terms of number of generated test cases and time consumption. © 2011 IEEE.

Spam detection is a significant problem which considered by many researchers by various developed strategies. Among many others, simple artificial immune system is one of those being proposed. There is a deficiency in number of optimization methods in simple artificial immune system (SAIS). This problem can be solved and eliminated using other optimization methods besides mutation. In this research, SAIS was hybridized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) for optimizing the performance of SAIS for spam filtering. PSO was used with mutation to reinforce the immune system's searches to find the best class in exemplar for classification. Achieved results represent the Hybrid SAIS and PSO is superior to that of a SAIS. © 2011 IEEE.

The green ICT is becoming extremely important for energy saving. The power consumption of network devices i.e., switches and routers, can be reduced by changing the transmission rate on their interfaces according to the amount of traffic. Energy-efficient routing based on the power reduction of devices may be attractive way for effectively saving energy over networks. Some schemes for energy-efficient routing have been studied in which traffic from some sources is aggregated on the particular link/node for power saving of others when the amount of traffic on network becomes low. Effectiveness of these schemes were shown by computer simulations and experiments in their own network environments. Therefore in this paper, we first implement some schemes on our test-bed network to compare both power consumption and transmission performance of them. We also investigate the applicability and scalability of these schemes on large scale networks and finally discuss important issues for more general and effective schemes. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper describes a new approach to analyze road images which often contain vehicles and extract license plate (LP) from natural properties by finding vertical and horizontal edges. In this paper, initially, segmentation technique named as sliding concentric windows (SCW) on the basis of a novel adaptive image segmentation technique for detecting candidate region. Color verification for candidate region by using HSI color model on the basis of using hue and intensity in HSI color model verifying green and yellow LP and white LP, respectively. Tilt correction in horizontal direction by the least square fitting with perpendicular offsets (LSFPO) is proposed and implemented for estimating rotation angle of the LP region. Then the whole image is rotated for tilt correction in horizontal direction by this angle. Tilt correction in vertical direction by reorientation of the titled LP candidate through inverse affine transformation is proposed and implemented for removing shear from the LP candidates. Finally, statistical based template matching technique is used for recognition of Korean plate characters. Various LP images are used with a variety of conditions to test the proposed method and results are presented to prove its effectiveness. © 2011 IEEE.

Concurrent adoption of software engineering process improvement frameworks have been widely practiced by the software organizations. The software development organizations leverage these frameworks to better address process improvement challenges. This paper develops an integrated framework for software engineering process improvement practices and unifies the theories in process definition and establishment. The unified framework provides a set of formal descriptions for software engineering process improvement frameworks. Requirements and architectures for software engineering process improvement frameworks are investigated. The main challenge in the integration is the interoperability of the frameworks. Inaccurate integration approach results in inefficiency of the integration process. Common interoperability issues in the integration of current process models and methodologies are addressed. In addition to this, omissions, differences and gaps can be identified and further examined for development of new unified framework. Taxonomy for software engineering process framework is used to support the understanding and comparison of diverse software quality frameworks. The taxonomy should be based on discipline-specific framework. Besides, other alternative approaches for comparing the software engineering process improvement framework are presented. The research outcome is expected to identify the structural relationships among the frameworks. Derivation from the taxonomy includes characteristics and categories of attributes tailored to the discipline-specific framework. © 2011 IEEE.

Software project success depends on various reasons including project control, software standards and procedures. Software development organizations realize the importance of using best practices to improve software development practices. An increasing number of literature have described about process improvement best practices and standards. Formal process improvement frameworks have emerged widely to promote the use of systematic processes for software engineering. These approaches identify best practices for managing software engineering quality. They provide methods for assessing an organization's process maturity level and capability. In this article, recent process improvement best practices and standards are presented. Its objective is to analyze the existing approaches towards software process improvement initiatives. Another objective is to determine the issues related to adoption of process improvement and standards. The research outcome is to obtain the significant process improvement issues and formulate a classification of generic steps for process improvements. © 2011 IEEE.

In digital watermarking performance evaluation at least three major metrics: imperceptibility, robustness and capacity have been widely used by researchers to analyze the performance of watermarking schemes;however, they constantly conflict with each other. In this paper we propose an effective method to evaluate the trade-off balanced degree among these measures using three threshold conditions. These thresholds comprise of three factors: imperceptibility effect 'before attack and after watermarking', perceptibility effect 'after attack', and robustness 'after attack'. As a result of this study, the performance trade-off of a watermarking scheme can be stated based on degrees. Moreover, we proposed Reset Removal Attack as a severe geometric attack. Finally, the experimental investigation of the proposed technique using the bit-plane watermarking algorithms under several intensities of Reset Removal Attack revealed that the 3rd bit-plane algorithm behaved a better compromise among robustness, image quality, and capacity. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
