Anaphora resolution (AR) is a process to identify the appropriate antecedent with its anaphor which occur before the anaphor. AR able to improve most of the NLP applications such as question answering, short answer examination system and information extraction. Most of AR systems are deal with English language. Thus, in 1990's the research on AR has been applied for other language, such as Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and Norwegian. There are however limited or no effort in dealing with Malay text. The AR systems for one language cannot be simply adapted to use in other languages. This is due to the fact that different languages have different set of rules relating to syntax and semantic to respective language. This paper proposed a model for resolving anaphora phenomena in Malay text. The model consists of three elements consisting of anaphora resolution process, syntactic knowledge process and semantic-world knowledge process. The elements are defined based on the observable fact occurring in Malay language. © 2010 IEEE.

The financial industry is becoming more and more dependent on advanced computer technologies in order to maintain competitiveness in a global economy. Fuzzy logic represents an exciting technology with a wide scope for potential applications. There is a growing interest both in the field of fuzzy logic computing and in the financial world in explaining the use of fuzzy logic to forecast the future changes in prices of stocks, exchange rates, commodities, and other financial time series. Fuzzy algorithms are intensively used for the identification of dynamic models, combining both numerical and heuristic knowledge. Fuzzy logic provides a remarkably simple way to draw definite conclusions from vague, ambiguous or imprecise information. In this paper, we are investigating the ability of Fuzzy logic (FL) to tackle the financial time series forecasting problems. Experimental results on set of applications indicated that fuzzy logic can effectively solve these types of problems. In order to examine the effectiveness of fuzzy logic applied to forecasting, the comparison with Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) is performed.

Topological relations between spatial objects are the most important kind of qualitative spatial information. Dozens of relation models have been proposed in the past two decades. These models usually make a small number of distinctions and therefore can only cope with spatial information at a fixed granularity of spatial knowledge. In this paper, we propose a topological relation model in which the topological relation between two convex plane regions can be uniquely represented as a circular string over the alphabet {u, v, x, y}. A linear algorithm is given to compute the topological relation between two convex polygons. The infinite relation calculus could be used in hierarchical spatial reasoning as well as in qualitative shape description. The stable model semantics was recently generalized by Ferraris, Lee and Lifschitz to the full first-order language with a syntax translation approach that is very similar to McCarthy's circumscription. In this paper, we investigate the decidability and undecidability of various fragments of first-order language under both semantics of stable models and circumscription. Some maximally decidable classes and undecidable classes are identified. The results obtained in the paper show that the boundaries between decidability and undecidability for these two semantics are very different in spite of the similarity of definition. Moreover, for all fragments considered in the paper, decidability under the semantics of circumscription coincides with that in classical first-order logic. This seems rather counterintuitive due to the second-order definition of circumscription and the high undecidability of first-order circumscription. Current and existing avatars are only able to express their emotional expressions only by using facial animation, gesture and voice. Yet, only few researchers successfully combined haptic tactile with human emotion expression. In this paper, we present an avatar in a creative way that can gain user attention while they play game and use computer. Our proposed technique is achieved through combination of visual sense and systematic mapping of sense of touch. The mapping procedure is developed by systemically map the emotion layer into color spectrum based on the standard color emotion theories. To prove our solution, we benchmark our proposed technique prototype with existing system like Alfred. From the conducted experiment, we found that 57% respondents feel strong expression of virtual head emotion expression when dedicated haptic device stimulates their sensory nerve. Using our design solution, we can see that psychological signal can be adapted with vibration characteristic.

In grid computing a loosely coupled and virtual computing infrastructure is created out of a collection of connected heterogeneous processors sharing various combinations of resources. It is pertinent to note that African Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) cannot participate in the global market using the current e-business solution due to the lack of or nonexistent infrastructure to support such services. In this paper, we propose a grid service based solution that is indigenous to African SMEs and technologically tailored to meet their local needs. The solution is based on an Application Service Provider (ASP) grid framework. The framework is specified using Universal Modeling Language (UML). © 2010 IEEE.

This paper proposes a mathematical model of a mass-sensitive chemical sensor with a PPF-coated quartz crystal resonator (QCR) to enable its use for the signal processing of gas sensing systems that are operated under ambient conditions. To approximate the pulse-like responses of the PPF-coated QCR sensor to the sample gas and adsorbed water, a mathematical model based on the diffusion equation (under the assumption of one-dimensional Fickian diffusion of the sample gas molecules to the sensor film) is extended to a time variation model (based on the assumption that the sorption/desorption phenomena occur in time order in the vicinity of the PPF surface). Computational experiments show the feasibility of the proposed mathematical model for estimating the response of the PPF-coated QCR sensor under ambient conditions.

Dispersion due to linear chromatic and nonlinear effects of the single mode optical fibers are critical in ultra-high speed global optical Ethernet operating at 10Gb/s to 100Gb/s. This paper investigates the use of optical burst switching (OBS) to overcome the problem of blocking and contention under optical circuit switching, especially when the traffic load is heavy. The traffic transport characteristics of multi-wavelengthchannels are studied with the channel bit rate of 2.5 Gb/s to 40 Gb/s in burst mode. OBS is demonstrated to minimize the blocking probability due to its statistical advantage to improve the throughput rate. Further a new core node architecture consisting of dynamic optical buffers and wavelength conversion is proposed for incorporating with an optical switching matrix for ultra-fast switching and routing of OBS packets. Blocking probabilities of the networking traffics are obtained for different bit rates under the effects of dispersion and with or without optical buffers for OBS. © 2010 IEEE.

Current method of computer security implementations are only software based. The future trend of security is shifting towards hardware and software based. We shall utilize the growing trend in security, the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to prove that both hardware and software security implementation is feasible and effective. We hence, choose to utilize TPM for prevention of file system rootkit persistence. Such is performed utilizing the data signing capability provided by the TPM's signing keys-thus the construction of the Rootkit Resistant File-system (RRF) based on TPM. We shall further demonstrate that our RRF is comparable with Tripwire.

Requirements changes sometimes cause a project to fail. A lot of projects now follow incremental development processes so that new requirements and requirements changes can be incorporated as soon as possible. These processes are called integrated requirements processes, which function to integrate requirements processes with other developmental processes. We have quantitatively and qualitatively investigated the requirements processes of a specific project from beginning to end. Our focus is to clarify the types of necessary requirements based on the components contained within a certain portion of the software architecture. Further, each type reveals its typical requirements processes through its own rationale. This case study is a system to manage the orders and services of a restaurant. In this paper, we introduce the case and categorize its requirements processes based on the components of the system and the qualitative characteristics of ISO-9126. We could identify seven categories of the typical requirements process to be managed and/or controlled. Each category reveals its typical requirements processes and their characteristics.
