Dynamic multi-hop multipath RMSA and traffic grooming in OFDM-based sliceable elastic optical networks

In elastic optical networks (EON), routing, modulation selection, and spectrum assignment (RMSA) is crucial in provisioning connection requests. Multipath RMSA offers a number of benefits including provisioning of ultra-high bandwidth demands and better utilization of fragmented spectrum resource. By Combining with traffic grooming, multipath RMSA and traffic grooming is able to provide better utilization of network resource in provisioning connection requests. Adding multi-hop routing mechanism to multipath RMSA and traffic grooming increases the flexibility for selecting paths resulting in higher probability of successfully finding routing paths for connection requests. Dynamic multipath RMSA problem in EON has been investigated extensively in the literature. Dynamic multi-hop multipath RMSA and traffic grooming problem in EON is far from been well studied. This paper proposes an algorithm for the dynamic multi-hop multipath RMSA and traffic grooming problem in OFDM-based elastic optical networks with sliceable bandwidth-variable transponders. Performance of the proposed algorithm is studied via simulation. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields lower bandwidth blocking ratio than an existing algorithm. © 2023 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

To offer relevant and useful recommendations, the crucial role of recommender systems in e-commerce industry is to predict the users’ concern for various items by estimating items’ attributes and users’ preferences. The reliability of a recommender system is usually assessed through accuracy and speed of relevant recommendations for a variety of items. The matrix factorization-based stochastic gradient descent (SGD) methods proposed by researchers lack memory needed to capture the ratings history hidden in the previous iterations. Recently, sliding window-based SGD strategies designed for Recommender systems and Hammerstein nonlinear systems gained attention due to the improved performance in terms of convergence speed and estimated accuracy. The memory impact with regard to the historical information enhances the performance of sliding window-based SGD techniques. However, sliding window-based methods are deficient in capturing the ratings history based on the users’ rating patterns. Hence utilizing the same window length for the set of observed ratings rated by users. Therefore, we propose an improved sliding window-based SGD strategy to acquire historical information of the ratings with respect to a user’s rating patterns for efficient matrix factorization of recommender systems. The proposed strategy performs significantly by accomplishing fast convergence speed and accuracy for window sizes greater than 1. The accuracy of the suggested technique is verified for two benchmark datasets such as ML-100 K and Film-Trust. However, the authenticity of the proposed method as compared to the standard counterpart (window size = 1) is confirmed through Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The average improvements achieved by the proposed strategy in terms of RMSE and MAE over the baseline for ML-100 K dataset are 0.726% and 2.245% respectively. 1.35 million people die every year due to road accident including cyclist. One of the main reason that contribute to this statistic is delayed response by the rescue team. This project aims to detect the precise location of the victims as well as to notify their next-of-kin immediately about their status. A GPS module, TTGO T- Call with built-in GSM Module and 3-Axis Accelerometer are used to develop the project prototype. The accelerometer sensor detect any fall and send the location of the fallen cyclist to the next-of-kin via SMS. This project benefits the cyclist to get immediate assistance in case of any mishap that is not within the vicinity of other road users. © 2024 IEEE.

In Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), growing data and model sizes require distributed processing across multiple nodes due to single-node limitations, increasing inter-node communication. To address these challenges, we propose a novel MPI allgather method leveraging CXL technology, which supports composable architectures and dynamic resource allocation in data centers and HPC systems. Notably, CXL 3.1 facilitates cache coherence among nodes. The proposed allgather method uses the CXL shared memory pool as a communication buffer, outperforming existing algorithms for two reasons: First, CXL provides lower latency than Ethernet and IB, and second, by using the CXL shared memory pool as a shared communication buffer across multiple nodes, it significantly reduces the number of communications. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to explore combining MPI collective communication with CXL technology to optimize MPI allgather. Our proposed allgather method significantly reduces communication latency compared to traditional allgather methods by up to 42.14x, with a minimum improvement of 2.91x, as measured using the OSU Micro-Benchmark (OMB), a standard MPI benchmarking suite. © 2024 IEEE.

The current fleet of cars requires reevaluation, upgrades, and replacement in response to the expanding human population, the increase in urban traffic volume, and the elevated levels of air pollution attributed to vehicular emissions. In densely populated cities, bus routes effectively compete with private transportation, optimize user accessibility, and provide access to all urban residents. This study proposes a novel method for optimizing bus routes, encompassing four primary processes: preprocessing, site clustering, ridership prediction, and optimization. The clustering process employs the K-means technique to classify available bus stops based on their geographical information. The suggested method utilizes an artificial neural network model to forecast the number of passengers at different locations. Subsequently, the bee colony optimization algorithm is implemented to determine bus frequencies and achieve an optimal distribution of buses across various traffic lines. Results obtained using a real traffic line dataset indicate a 32% increase in traffic fleet capacity and a 22.33% reduction in passenger waiting time upon application of the proposed method. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Effective manpower planning is crucial for any organization, including universities, as it directly influences performance, productivity, and overall success. Inefficient recruitment processes can lead to increased costs, higher turnover rates, and suboptimal utilization of human resources, negatively impacting the institution's ability to achieve its goals and maintain a competitive advantage. The objective of this study is to develop a comprehensive digital solution to streamline and enhance recruitment and manpower planning processes, replacing traditional manual methods. This paper presents the Recruitment and Manpower Planning System, an innovative web-based platform designed using Extreme Programming (XP) methodologies. The system integrates modern programming tools such as Visual Studio Code, Laragon, Laravel 9, and MySQL, and utilizes Unified Modelling Language (UML) for precise system design. A mixed-methods approach, incorporating quantitative data from structured questionnaires administered to 500 users, informed the system's design. Data analysis indicates a 40% reduction in recruitment time, a 35% increase in successful job placements, and a 90% user satisfaction rate. Rigorous testing phases ensured system accuracy and quality. This digital solution not only optimizes recruitment processes but also provides a robust prototype for future advancements in manpower planning systems. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid progress of deep convolutional neural networks,several applications of crowd counting have been proposed and explored in the *** congested scene monitoring,a variety of crowd density estimating approaches has been *** understanding of highly congested scenes for crowd counting during Muslim gatherings of Hajj and Umrah is a challenging task,as a large number of individuals stand nearby and,it is hard for detection techniques to recognize them,as the crowd can vary from low density to high *** deal with such highly congested scenes,we have proposed the Congested Scene Crowd Counting Network(CSCC-Net)using VGG-16 as a core network with its first ten layers due to its strong and robust transfer learning rate.A hole dilated convolutional neural network is used at the back end to widen the relevant field to extract a large range of information from the image without losing its original *** dilated convolution neural network is mainly chosen to expand the kernel size without changing other ***,several loss functions have been applied to strengthen the evaluation accuracy of the ***,the entire experiments have been evaluated using prominent data sets namely,ShanghaiTech parts A,B,UCF_CC_50,and UCF_*** model has achieved remarkable results i.e.,68.0 and 9.0 MAE on ShanghaiTech parts A,B,199.1 MAE on UCF_CC_50,and 99.8 on UCF_QNRF data sets respectively.

This paper presents a novel approach for vehicle map mapping and estimating parking occupancy in parking lots using a single camera without parking lines. The system is capable of detecting around 10 vehicles even with just one camera, and is able to track vehicles with the same ID as they enter and pass through the parking lot. Furthermore, it proposes a method to map the locations of vehicles on real-world maps, allowing for accurate estimation of parking occupancy. The system achieved high accuracy in vehicle detection and tracking, with a 98.4% recall rate and 100% tracking accuracy. The accuracy of parking occupancy estimation was calculated using root mean square error, with an average error of 0.24m and a maximum error of 0.36m. The results demonstrate the feasibility of detecting and tracking vehicles, as well as estimating parking occupancy, in parking lots without parking lines using only one camera. Further testing on multiple sites, including nighttime and adverse weather conditions, is needed to increase the reliability of the system. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a comprehensive exploration of Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation techniques in 5G environments, using the Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) in Uplink scenarios both in simulations and with actual measurements. Leveraging 5G capabilities, we investigate AoA algorithms for single-base station positioning. The study includes simulations and practical tests on a developed dedicated testbed featuring a base station equipped with a three-element Uniform Linear Array (ULA), considering Line of Sight conditions in an open environment. The testbed, employing Ettus E312 as the transmitter and Ettus N310 as the receiver, details waveform structures and reception processes. Additionally, our study examines the performance of Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation algorithms, such as Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariant Techniques (ESPRIT), and Joint Angle and Delay Estimation (JADE) ESPRIT. A MATLAB ray tracing propagation model of the environment where the measurements are conducted, has been constructed. Simulation results using this model are presented, along with the actual measurements. The obtained results affirm the effectiveness of our implementation. © 2024 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

In today’s world, health and medicine play an undeniable role in human life. Traditional and current Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems that are used to exchange information between medical stakeholders (patients, physicians, insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, medical researchers, etc.) suffer weaknesses in terms of security and privacy due to having centralized architecture. Blockchain technology ensures the privacy and security of EHR systems thanks to the use of encryption. Moreover, due to its decentralized nature, this technology prevents central failure and central attack points. In this paper, a systematic literature review (SLR) is proposed to analyze the existing Blockchain-based approaches for improving privacy and security in electronic health systems. The research methodology, paper selection process, and the search query are explained. 51 papers returned from our search criteria published between 2018 and Dec 2022 are reviewed. The main ideas, type of Blockchain, evaluation metrics, and used tools of each selected paper are discussed in detail.
