There are two major kinds of XML functional dependency (FD) definitions. The first kind of XML FD includes Tree-tuple-based XML FD (tFD) and Path-based XML FD (pFD), and the second kind of XML FD includes Extended-path-based XML FD (epFD), Sub-graph-based XML FD (gFD), and Generalized-tree-tuple-based XML FD (gtFD). The relationships and differences in semantic power between these functional dependencies are analyzed, and some results are obtained as follows: (1) tFD and pFD of the first kind of XML FD have the same expressive power of XML FD. (2) epFD, gFD, and gtFD of the second kind of XML FDs have the same expressive power of XML FD, too. (3) The second kind of XML FD can deal with set elements in XML FD and have more general expressive power than the first kind of XML FD.

This paper studies the schema conversion from relational schemas to XML DTDs. As functional dependencies play an important role in schema conversion process, the concept of functional dependency for XML DTDs is proposed to preserve the semantics implied by functional dependencies and keys of relational schemas. A conversion method called NeT-FD (nesting- based translation with functional dependencies) is proposed to convert relational schemas to XML DTDs in the presence of functional dependencies and keys. The method presented here can preserve the semantics implied by functional dependencies and keys of relational schemas and can convert multiple tables to XML DTDs at the same time.

Information fusion has been widely applied in many fields. Aggregate operator plays a key role in information fusion. So far, all existing aggregate operators are defined on a subset of a space (set). In many of the problems with information fusion, we often need to deal with the operator defined on a partition of the space. Motivated by minimizing the classification information entropy of a partition while generating decision tree using ID3 algorithm, in this paper, we propose a aggregate operator on a partition, investigate its properties and computation, and provide the conclusion that the sum of the weighted entropy of the union of several subsets is not less than the sum of the weighted entropy of a single subset. It is shown that selecting the entropy of a single attribute is better than selecting the entropy of the union of several attributes in generating rules by ID3 algorithm.

Image classification plays an important role in many tasks, which is still a challenging *** paper proposes a hybrid image classification method, which integrates wavelet transform, rough set approach, and artificial neural networks (ANNs).Wavelet transform is employed to decompose the original images into different frequency sub-bands, then a set of statistical features are extracted from the wavelet coefficients, the feature set can be viewed as an information *** wavelet transform well decorrelates images, there still exist dependencies between *** the features extracted from the coefficients may be *** the features from one sub-band are dependent on the features from another sub-band, the later one can be *** set approach is utilized to remove the correlated or redundant *** reduced information system finally fed into neural network for *** performance of the method is evaluated in terms of training accuracy and testing accuracy, the experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

XML functional dependencies are very important semantic information of XML dataset. It is important to find the functional dependencies from the known functional dependencies in XML dataset. As in relational database, a set of inference rules of XML functional dependencies is needed to do such work. This paper proposes a set of inference rules of XML functional dependencies. The main contribution and difference with earlier related work is that we studies the problem based on a new concept of XML functional dependency, i.e. constraint-tree model is used in defining such XML functional dependency. It has the improvement over related definitions in the following aspects: (1) It captures the tree-structured characteristics of XML documents in structure. (2) It considers a more general situation of XML functional dependencies based on sub-trees with some constraint conditions in XML documents.

Trusted platform model (TPM) is special-purpose integrated circuits built into a variety of platforms to enable strong user authentication and machine attestation-essential to prevent inappropriate access to confidential and sensitive information and to protect against compromised networks. As a necessary component for multifarious platforms, storage device keeps on a mass of data including confidential and secretive information. How to ensure data not to be accessed by unauthorized users effectively, and to guarantee information to be in safe and secure state? Aiming at these problems, we put forward a novel scheme for protecting data on personal computer platform. By combing trusted computing platform, we propose a secure and reliable model for user authentication and data encryption. The model uses storage protocol to establish a password system to encrypt data, and uses TPM to authenticate different users. We also implement this model by adding it into trusted computing platform. The enhanced platform can not only encrypt data per sector drastically, but also exclude those who can't be authenticated. Some external software attacks and physical theft also cut no ice.

In this paper, a novel view-based 3D object recognition method is proposed, which consists of three steps. First, employing wavelet transform to decompose view images of the object into different frequency sub-images. Second, for each sub-image, the features are extracted using singular-value decomposition (SVD) approach, and the features extracted from sub-images are combined to construct the feature vector of the original image. Third, the feature vector is fed into the support vector machine (SVM) to classify the objects. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective.

XML is becoming a prevalent format and de facto standard for data exchange in many applications. While traditionally, lots of data are stored and managed in relational databases. There is an urgent need to research some efficient methods to convert these data stored in relational databases to XML format when integrating and exchanging these data in XML format, The semantics of XML schemas are crucial to design, query, and store XML documents and functional dependencies are very important representations of semantic information of XML schemas. As DTDs are one of the most frequently used schemas for XML documents in these days, we will use DTDs as schemas of XML documents here. This paper studies the problem of schema conversion from relational schemas to XML DTDs. As functional dependencies play an important role in the schema conversion process, the concept of functional dependency for XML DTDs is used to preserve the semantics implied by functional dependencies and keys of relational schemas. A conversion method is proposed to convert relational schemas to XML DTDs in the presence of functional dependencies, keys and foreign keys. The methods presented here can preserve the semantics implied by functional dependencies, keys and foreign keys of relational schemas and can convert multiple relational tables to XML DTDs at the same time. © 2006 IEEE.

This paper analyzes the most common security problems of web applications, including parameter modification, cookie modification, directory traversal, impersonation access, and unauthorized access. Two XML-based languages ACPDL (Access Control Policy Description Language) and SPDL (Security Policy Description Language) are proposed to specify access control policies (including XML Signature) and security policies (including XML Encryption) for Web application security, respectively. A framework WALSG (Web Application Level Security Gateway) based on ACPDL and SPDL is presented to provide web security, which can be used as a secure tool to define access control and security policies of a web site. Some examples are given as a demonstration of applications of the proposal.

A concept of functional dependency in XML documents based on constraint-tree is proposed. The definition proposed in our paper overcomes the shortcomings of previous definitions in the following aspects: (1) it captures the tree-structured characteristics of XML documents in structure; (2) it considers a more general situation of XML functional dependencies based on sub-trees with some constraint conditions in XML documents. The relationship between our definition of XML functional dependencies and other related definitions is also discussed in the paper
