Extended and improved slicing technologies for Petri nets

Petri net is an important tool to model and analyze concurrent systems, but Petri net models are frequently large and complex, and difficult to understand and modify. Slicing is a technique to remove unnecessary parts with respect to a criterion for analyzing programs, and has been widely used in specification level for model reduction, but researches on slicing of Petri nets are still limited. According to the idea of program slicing, this paper extends slicing technologies of Petri nets to four kinds of slices, including backward static slice, backward dynamic slice, forward static slice and forward dynamic slice. Based on the structure properties, the algorithms of obtaining two kinds of static slice are constructed. Then, a new method of slicing backward dynamic slice is proposed based on local reachability graph which can locally reflect the dynamic properties of Petri nets. At last, forward dynamic slice can be obtained through the reachability marking graph under a special marking. The algorithms can be used to reduce the size of Petri net, which can provide the basic technical support for simplifying the complexity of formal verification and analysis. © by HIGH technology LETTERS PRESS.

Modeling and monitoring of online shopping business processes based on system behavior patterns

Online shopping integrating third-party payment platforms (TPPs) has rapidly developed recently. The integration leads to new security problems derived from complex interactions among Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), and the detection of such defects in application-level is costly and difficult. To deal with these security issues at the online stages, this paper presents a framework of modeling and monitoring online shopping business processes from the point of legal behavior patterns. We present Online Shopping Net (OSN) to model the normal business process, and make it as the legal behavior pattern used to monitor system behaviors. Then, a monitor based on OSN is constructed. The system behaviors beyond the legal behavior pattern would be alarmed and blocked. It is a novel attempt to guarantee the security of online shopping from the point of behaviors and online monitoring. Using the active defense tactics, we can effectively prevent the illegal behaviors of the users at application-level instead of constantly fixing bugs of applications. As a case study, we simulate an e-commerce site and a TPP, and the monitor can effectively prevent the malicious behaviors appearing recently. © 2013 by Binary Information Press.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified >250 loci for body mass index (BMI), implicating pathways related to neuronal biology. Most GWAS loci represent clusters of common, noncoding variants from which pinpointing causal genes remains challenging. Here we combined data from 718,734 individuals to discover rare and low-frequency (minor allele frequency (MAF) < 5%) coding variants associated with BMI. We identified 14 coding variants in 13 genes, of which 8 variants were in genes (ZBTB7B, ACHE, RAPGEF3, RAB21, ZFHX3, ENTPD6, ZFR2 and ZNF169) newly implicated in human obesity, 2 variants were in genes (MC4R and KSR2) previously observed to be mutated in extreme obesity and 2 variants were in GIPR. The effect sizes of rare variants are ~10 times larger than those of common variants, with the largest effect observed in carriers of an MC4R mutation introducing a stop codon (***35Ter, MAF = 0.01%), who weighed ~7 kg more than non-carriers. Pathway analyses based on the variants associated with BMI confirm enrichment of neuronal genes and provide new evidence for adipocyte and energy expenditure biology, widening the potential of genetically supported therapeutic targets in obesity.

A theoretical study of the multigrid three-dimensional variational data assimilation scheme using a simple bilinear interpolation algorithm

In order to solve the so-called ＂bull-eye＂ problem caused by using a simple bilinear interpolation as an observational mapping operator in the cost function in the multigrid three-dimensional variational （3DVAR） data assimilation scheme, a smoothing term, equivalent to a penalty term, is introduced into the cost function to serve as a means of troubleshooting. A theoretical analysis is first performed to figure out what on earth results in the issue of ＂bull-eye＂, and then the meaning of such smoothing term is elucidated and the uniqueness of solution of the multigrid 3DVAR with the smoothing term added is discussed through the theoretical deduction for one-dimensional （1D） case, and two idealized data assimilation experiments （one- and two-dimensional （2D） cases）. By exploring the relationship between the smoothing term and the recursive filter theoretically and practically, it is revealed why satisfied analysis results can be achieved by using such proposed solution for the issue of the multigrid 3DVAR.

The paper presents an innovative design for a wheeled hopping robot. Our main objective was to obtain a stable and efficient robot, which can jump over obstacles and has the ability to reach a certain ledge. The innovative design of our robot has the capability to jump to a certain distance even with a zero initial velocity provided by the wheels movement. Also, we took into consideration the wind speed which can prevent our robot to reach the desired destination, and compensated with an initial velocity on the direction of movement. For testing we designed a simulation which had as inputs different initial conditions to test and present the jumping capability of our robot in different jumping conditions. In the end we provide a jump area which the robot can reach for certain initial conditions, so we can later chose the optimal one for reaching the target position.

This paper proposes a robust real-time artificial landmarks detection and recognition system for indoor mobile robot. Landmarks detection and recognition for indoor robots faces two major difficulties, one is the illumination changes and the other is processing speed. In this paper, first, histograms of oriented gradient (HOG) features are extracted to resolve the problem of illumination changes. Second, AdaBoost based algorithm is used in detection phase to increase the processing speed. Finally, RBF-SVM classifier is used for recognition. Experimental results show a high detection and recognition accuracy and the processing speed is about 10 frames per second.

People often meet trouble in searching a desktop file when they can not remember exact words of its filename. In this paper, we firstly propose an algorithm to generate access logs by monitoring desktop operations and implement a prototype. By running it in several computers of selected participants we collected a data set of access logs. Then we propose a graph model to represent personal desktop files and their relationships, and highlight two file relationships(content relationship and time relationship) to help users search desktop files. Based on the graph model, we propose a desktop search method, and the experimental results show the feasibility and effectiveness of our methods. © Springer-Verlag 2013.

We report the storage of microwave pulses at the single-photon level in a spin-ensemble memory consisting of 1010 nitrogen-vacancy centers in a diamond crystal coupled to a superconducting LC resonator. The energy of the signal, retrieved 100μs later by spin-echo techniques, reaches 0.3% of the energy absorbed by the spins. This 0.3% storage efficiency is quantitatively accounted for by simulations. This figure of merit is sufficient to envision first implementations of a quantum memory for superconducting qubits.

The Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) has opened the way for comparative studies of cosmic rays (CRs) and high-energy objects in the Milky Way (MW) and in other, external, star-forming galaxies. Using 2 yr of observations with the Fermi LAT, Local Group galaxy M31 was detected as a marginally extended gamma-ray source, while only an upper limit has been derived for the other nearby galaxy M33. We revisited the gamma-ray emission in the direction of M31 and M33 using more than 7 yr of LAT Pass 8 data in the energy range 0.1−100 GeV, presenting detailed morphological and spectral analyses. M33 remains undetected, and we computed an upper limit of 2.0×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1 on the 0.1−100 GeV energy flux (95% confidence level). This revised upper limit remains consistent with the observed correlation between gamma-ray luminosity and star-formation rate tracers and implies an average CR density in M33 that is at most half of that of the MW. M31 is detected with a significance of nearly 10σ. Its spectrum is consistent with a power law with photon index Γ = 2.4±0.1stat+syst and a 0.1−100 GeV energy flux of (5.6±0.6stat+syst)×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1. M31 is detected to be extended with a 4σ significance. The spatial distribution of the emission is consistent with a uniform-brightness disk with a radius of 0◦.4 and no offset from the center of the galaxy, but nonuniform intensity distributions cannot be excluded. The flux from M31 appears confined to the inner regions of the galaxy and does not fill the disk of the galaxy or extend far from it. The gamma-ray signal is not correlated with regions rich in gas or star-formation activity, which suggests that the emission is not interstellar in origin, unless the energetic particles radiating in gamma rays do not originate in recent star formation. Alternative and nonexclusive interpretations are that the emission results from a population of millisecond pulsars dispersed in the bulge and disk of M31 by disrupted globular clusters or from

Towards accountable authority attribute-based encryption

An accountable authority attribute-based encryption （A-ABE） scheme is presented in this paper. The notion of accountable authority identity-based encryption （A-IBE） was first introduced by Goyal at Crypto＇07. It is a novel approach to mitigate the （inherent） key escrow problem in identity-based cryptosystems. In this work, the concept of accountable authority to attribute-based encryption （ABE） setting is generalized for the first time, and then a construction is given. The scheme non-trivially integrates an A-IBE scheme proposed by Libert et al. with an ABE scheme. In our construction, a user will be identified by a pair （ id, o~）, where id denotes the user＇ s identity and ω denotes the set of attributes associated to the user. In addition, our construction is shown to be secure under some reasonable assumptions.
