It is very challenging to schedule a multi-cluster tool for it needs to coordinate the activities of multiple robots. This paper studies one-wafer cyclic scheduling for multi-cluster tools whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound. A Petri net model is developed to describe the system. Based on the model, it is shown that, for any multi-cluster tool whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound, there is always a one-wafer cyclic schedule. Then, a method is presented to find the minimal cycle time and the optimal one-wafer cyclic schedule. The method requires only simple calculation. An example illustrates the application and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

Behavior management and performance evaluation are two significant issues in the design and operation of automated manufacturing systems (AMS). The former constrains their dynamics so as to avoid improper behavior and eliminate downtime, while the latter aims to evaluate cycle time. Although abundant research has been conducted on each issue independently, researchers rarely address both in a correlative way. Without accurate and prompt guidance to route parts, it is difficult for an AMS to manage the production process in an optimal manner. In the paradigm of Petri nets, we show that it is crucial to optimize certain local priorities for the sake of cycle time minimization or throughput maximization. Without making radical changes to the system structure, our method can well design some control parameters in order to meet system performance requirement. An algorithm of polynomial complexity is presented to derive supervisory controllers, if existing, to improve system performance. © 2013 IEEE.

Ensuring nonblockingness remains challenging for automated manufacturing systems (AMS) owing to their discrete event dynamics. Both scalability and maximal permissiveness are essential for the synthesis and implementation of their centralized supervisors. Inspired by the divide and conquer philosophy, this work proposes a partition methodology and distributed control technique for large scale AMS. They are represented as interconnected and overlapping subsystems sharing some common components in terms of buffers. For each subsystem, a local supervisor is designed based on its local behavior and neighboring information only. Generalizing the existing results, we develop a condition under which the control law via decomposition promises the maximal permissiveness. Buffer capacities are well designed for the sake of their decomposition into multiple overlapping subsystems. Theoretical results are developed to characterize the behavior compatibility among local controllers. An experimental study illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a new research about mowing robot on obstacle avoidance and path tracking controlling theoretically and practically, and propose the mowing control method which based on computer visionLawn images collected by camera, through the extraction of programming dealing with lawn, obstacles and boundary characteristics to achieve edge separationThrough special processing algorithm to determine boundary arises and obstacles location, size and speed of the robot, with real-time capturing and processingThis paper gives the complete image recognition processing, and analyzes several methods of image filtering and edge detection, and proposes simple control algorithm for obstacle avoidance, and applies MATLAB for obstacle avoidance simulationThe results show that: the method can correctly identify the obstacles and boundaries, through the output about location, size of the obstacles and boundary, border slope and speed of the robot to control robot mowerMost importantly, that computer vision applying in the mowing robot itself is an innovation.

Impact of the Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interaction on Traffic Flow of Highway with Slopes

In this paper,we study the motion course of traffic flow on the slopes of a highway by applying a microscopic traffic model,which takes into account the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in an intelligent transportation system *** common gradients of the highway,which are sag terrain,uphill terrain,and downhill terrain on a single-lane roadway,are selected to clarify the impact on the traffic flow by the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative *** obtain the current-density relation for traffic flow on the sag,the uphill and the downhill under the next-nearest-neighbor interaction *** is observed that the current saturates when the density is greater than a critical value and the current decreases when the density is greater than another critical *** the density falls into the intermediate range between the two critical densities it is also found that the oscillatory jam,easily leads to traffic accidents,often appears in the downhill stage,and the next-nearest-neighbor interaction in relative velocity has a strong suppressing effect on this kind of dangerous congestion.A theoretical analysis is also presented to explain this important conclusion.

Rising global energy demand, increasing electricity prices, and the limitation of natural resources have led to increased interest in energy monitoring of residential buildings. Much research has been done to examine the effect of energy use feedback to building occupants. An important step towards energy awareness is to provide timely and finegrained consumption information of major household energy expenditures through feedback systems, known as residential energy monitoring systems (REMS). To accomplish this, researchers and product designers are intent on improving the residential whole-building energy consumption estimates gained through sensor networks at homes. Additionally, profiling the usage of appliances and devices within a home can be used to determine an occupant's daily activities and to optimize energy consumption. In this work, we take a step toward creating an evaluation procedure for REMS by determining factors that affect their ability to accurately convey energy usage to occupants. Two feedback sensor systems are assessed in a testbed in which electrical loads typical to a home are operated. Preliminary tests show that the accuracy of the REMS measurement is dependent on an electrical load's power factor. Together with other findings, the results will assist researchers in forming a comprehensive test procedure that will characterize feedback systems in the future.

In current IaaS datacenters, tenants are suffering unfairness since the network bandwidth is shared in a best-effort manner. To achieve predictable network performance for rented virtual machines (VMs), cloud providers should guarantee minimum bandwidth for VMs or allocate the network bandwidth in a fairness fashion at VM-level. At the same time, the network should be efficiently utilized in order to maximize cloud providers' revenue. In this paper, we model the bandwidth sharing problem as a Nash bargaining game, and propose the allocation principles by defining a tunable base bandwidth for each VM. Specifically, we guarantee bandwidth for those VMs with lower network rates than their base bandwidth, while maintaining fairness among other VMs with higher network rates than their base bandwidth. Based on rigorous cooperative game-theoretic approaches, we design a distributed algorithm to achieve efficient and fair bandwidth allocation corresponding to the Nash bargaining solution (NBS). With simulations under typical scenarios, we show that our strategy can meet the two desirable requirements towards predictable performance for tenants as well as high utilization for providers. And by tuning the base bandwidth, our solution can enable cloud providers to flexibly balance the tradeoff between minimum guarantees and fair sharing of datacenter networks.

To realize differentiated configuration of reactive power compensation (RPC), 10 kV distribution feeders are classified into four types according to their electricity characteristics firstly, and their corresponding base-state models are established for reactive power optimization. Several indicators have been defined in order to facilitate the base-state analysis, such as the configuration rate of RPC, the average load rate of distribution transforms on the feeder, the natural power factor of distribution transforms, the generation-consumption ratio, and the sensitivity between characteristic parameters and the configuration rate of RPC. Secondly, the configuration rate of RPC of each base-state model has been calculated by reactive power optimization computation and the sensitivity analysis on various electricity characteristic parameters, and then the configuration rate of non-base-state feeders can be reckoned according to it. At last, the recommended table of the configuration median rate about RPC capacity can be provided and can be used to guide the reactive power configuration planning on different types of 10 kV feeders and different transformers. © 2013 IEEE.

For benefiting from incorporating the class information, partial least squares (PLS) and its two dimension version (2DPLS) have been widely employed in face recognition when extracting principal components. However, currently popular statistic methods, such as principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA), only learn holistic, not parts-based, representations which ignore available local features for face recognition. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to extract the facial features called two dimension nonnegative partial least squares (2DNPLS).Our approach can grab the local features via adding non-negativity constraint to the 2DPLS, and can also reserve the advantages of 2DPLS, which are both inherent structure and class information of images. For evaluating our approach's performance, a series of experiments were conducted on two famous face image databases include ORL and Yale face databases, which demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms the compared state-of-art algorithms. © 2013 IEEE.
