Research on road topology based mobility prediction schemes

Geographic routing has been introduced in mobile ad hoc networks and sensor networks. But its per-formance suffers greatly from mobility-induced location errors that can cause Lost Link （LLNK） and LOOP problems. Thus various mobility prediction algorithms have been proposed to mitigate the errors, but sometimes their prediction errors are substantial. A novel mobility prediction technique that incorpo-rates both mobile positioning information and road topology knowledge was presented. Furthermore, the performance of the scheme was evaluated via simulations, along with two other schemes, namely, Linear Velocity Prediction （LVP） and Weighted Velocity Prediction （WVP） for comparison purpose. The results of simulation under Manhattan mobility model show that the proposed scheme could track the movement of a node well and hence provide noticeable improvement over LVP and MVP.

A vehicle tracking mode based on dynamic roles is proposed in the smart camera networks. The tracking for a specific vehicle is organized collaboratively and automatically in smart camera network. The tracking is completed autonomously by smart cameras in a distributed manner. The decentralized control mode can effectively decrease the working pressure of server system, reduce the requirements of network bandwidth for real-time video transmission, and make the system flexible and fault-tolerant. An information transmission mechanism is also presented in the smart camera network to ensure the collaborative tracking. Finally, a demo system for vehicle tracking in intelligent traffic surveillance system is implemented to verify the proposed methods. © 2014 IEEE.

Qoe-Aware Edge Server Placement in Mobile Edge computing Using an Enhanced Genetic Algorithm

Mobile Edge computing (MEC) enhances service quality by decentralizing computational resources to network edges, thereby reducing latency and improving Quality of service (QoS). However, the spatial distribution of edge servers critically impacts network transmission efficiency, while heterogeneous user perceptions of QoS metrics frequently lead to suboptimal Quality of Experience (QoE). Current research on Edge Server Placement (ESP) predominantly focuses on localized optimization of QoS metrics, yet fails to adequately incorporate systematic QoE modeling and coordinated optimization frameworks, leading to significant discrepancies between actual user experience and satisfaction with resource allocation. To address this gap, this study establishes a formalized QoE-aware Edge Server Placement (EESP) framework by rigorously characterizing the interdependence between QoE and QoS. We first prove the NP-completeness of the EESP problem through computational complexity analysis. Subsequently, we develop an Integer Linear Programming-based exact solver (EESP-O) for small-scale scenarios and propose an Enhanced Genetic Algorithm (EESP-EGA) for large-scale deployments. The EESP-EGA integrates adaptive crossover probability mechanisms and elite retention strategies to achieve near-optimal solutions for complex real-world configurations. Experimental evaluations conducted on a broad range of real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several existing representative approaches in terms of QoE. © 2025, The Authors. The atmospheric duct is a vital radio wave *** methods of forecasting the atmospheric duct mainly include statistical analysis based on sounding observation data and mesoscale numerical model-based *** former can provide accurate duct information but is highly dependent on the acquisition of data *** latter is more practical but still lacks *** paper introduces machine learning to establish a novel meteorological parameter correction model for atmospheric duct *** detail,using the weather research and forecasting(WRF)model data and spatiotemporal characteristics as input,sounding data as label and extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)model for training,the meteorological parameter correction effect is the best,i.e.,the accuracy of forecast meteorological parameters is improved by about 65.4%.Combining the mapping relationship between meteorological parameters and corrected atmospheric refractive index(CARI),and the transition mechanism of CARI to duct parameters,a new duct forecasting mechanism is *** to the high efficiency of numerical model and the accuracy of sounding data,the new duct forecasting mechanism has excellent *** comparing the duct forecasting results,the forecasting accuracy of the new duct forecasting model is significantly higher than that of the mesoscale model.

Workflow scheduling is a key issue and remains a challenging problem in cloud *** with the large number of virtual machine(VM)types offered by cloud providers,cloud users need to choose the most appropriate VM type for each *** task scheduling sequences exist in a workflow *** task scheduling sequences have a significant impact on the scheduling *** is not easy to determine the most appropriate set of VM types for tasks and the best task scheduling ***,the idle time slots on VM instances should be used fully to increase resources'utilization and save the execution cost of a *** paper considers these three aspects simultaneously and proposes a cloud workflow scheduling approach which combines particle swarm optimization(PSO)and idle time slot-aware rules,to minimize the execution cost of a workflow application under a deadline constraint.A new particle encoding is devised to represent the VM type required by each task and the scheduling sequence of *** idle time slot-aware decoding procedure is proposed to decode a particle into a scheduling *** handle tasks'invalid priorities caused by the randomness of PSO,a repair method is used to repair those priorities to produce valid task scheduling *** proposed approach is compared with state-of-the-art cloud workflow scheduling *** show that the proposed approach outperforms the comparative algorithms in terms of both of the execution cost and the success rate in meeting the deadline.

As the gap between processing capability and bandwidth requirement of microprocessor increases, optical interconnects are used more and more widely in chip-to-chip data links. Trade-offs are made among latency, area, power consumption and reliability in the high frequency interconnect system in which error control schemes are always implemented to make it tolerate PER (packet error rate). In this paper, a scalable system for chip-to-chip optical interconnects is proposed and different types of error control schemes are compared using 90nm CMOS process. The goals are set to low latency, small area and low power consumption as well as acceptable MTTF (mean time to failure) for USR (ultra-short-reach) with very low BER (bit error rate). After that the ECS-HC based system is picked out and validated based on FPGA and 4.25Gbps 850nm optical transceivers. © 2007 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a multi-symplectic Hamiltonian formulation of the coupled Schr?dinger-KdV equations (CSKE) with periodic boundary conditions. Then we develop a novel multi-symplectic Fourier pseudospectral (MSFP) scheme for the CSKE. In numerical experiments, we compare the MSFP method with the Crank–Nicholson (CN) method. Our results show high accuracy, effectiveness, and good ability of conserving the invariants of the MSFP method.

The energy preserving average vector field (AVF) method is applied to the coupled Schr?dinger–KdV equations. Two energy preserving schemes are constructed by using Fourier pseudospectral method in space direction discretization. In order to accelerate our simulation, the split-step technique is used. The numerical experiments show that the non-splitting scheme and splitting scheme are both effective, and have excellent long time numerical behavior. The comparisons show thatthesplittingschemeisfasterthanthenon-splittingscheme, butitisnotasgoodasthenon-splittingschemeinpreserving the invariants.

A User-Centric Approach to Activity Recognition and Guidance in Semantic Smart Home

Wireless smart home system is to facilitate people's lives and it trend to adopt a more intelligent way to provide services. It is very desirable in the recent SH market for the system to recognize users' behaviors and automatically response the corresponding activities to satisfy users' actual demands. However, activity models in the existing approaches are usually defined separately through knowledge-driven methods. These approaches cause that the activity models can't be matched with the services dynamically. To address the problem, we develop the semantic association model and a novel approach of activity recognition and guidance is presented. In our approach, the smart devices and users' requirements are described by semantic models. When the requirements are detected and understood, smart gateway can provide appropriate services, achieving activity assistance. The semantic association model allows all related elements in smart home connect with each other logically. The approach has been implemented and the results show that the success rate of the approach based on semantic association model is higher than 33% at average as compared to the approach based on predefined models. The proposed approach can effectively help people who are in trouble with learning or remembering in the common life.
