More and more unstructured data are produced and consumed over network. How to maintain these data and improve the availability and scalability of the storage systems has become a considerable challenge. Although some NoSQL systems such as Dynamo, Cassandra, MongoDB have provided different advantages for unstructured data management, no one can provide flexible query functions like MongoDB, meanwhile guarantee the availability and scalability as Cassandra simultaneously. This paper presents a new high available distributed storage system called MyStore based on an optimized clusteredMongoDB for unstructured data. Consistent hash is used to distribute data on multiple MongoDB nodes by applying virtual node method. NWR mode is applied to provide automatic backup operation and guarantee data consistency. And a gossip protocol is taken for exchanging information of failures in the system. Moreover, a user-friendly interface module and an efficient cache module are designed for improving the usability of the system. Based on above strategies, the system can realize high availability for unstructured data storage, while providing complex query functions like rational databases. Moreover, it is applied in a multi-discipline virtual experiment platform named VeePalms that has run practically. Experimental evaluation shows that the methodology is powerful enough not only to enhance the data availability, but also to improve the server's scalability. © Springer-Verlag Wien 2014.

Due to diversity of data formats, missing of certain properties, imprecise records in heterogeneous literature databases, there exist duplicate records when integrating heterogeneous databases. Duplicate records lower the efficiency of information retrieval. In this paper, we propose an approach, named length filtering and dynamic weighting (LFDW) for duplicate records cleansing. There are three steps in LFDW. The first step is length filtering. In this step, according to the length of record, those record pairs are sifted if there exists a big difference in their lengths. Secondly, this approach detects duplicate records using dynamic weighting properties. Specially, since author name is the important property of literature and one author may has different styles of name, a fuzzy name matching method is adopted to identify the same author who has different name style. Finally, to improve the performance of duplicate detection, we adopt a dynamic sliding-window algorithm when comparing records. The result indicates the time, recall and precision of LFDW are better than traditional ones. © 2008 IEEE.

The Delay Tolerant Network employs a store-carry-forward paradigm to enable bundle delivery in intermittent connected environments. A router relays a message only when a proper contact opportunity occurs, which results in prominent congestion issues. An appropriate scheduling and dropping policy can alleviate this situation and maximize contact capacity. We investigate the impact of delivery probability and number of message replicas over the efficiency of scheduling and dropping policies in probabilistic routing, and present a new way to utilize contact probability and delivery predictability to direct the design of scheduling policies. We also design a simple and distributed method to approximate the global number of replicas. We integrate these results and present a new scheduling and dropping policy. Simulation based on map based movement has shown that the new policy gains a delivery rate very close to global knowledge based policies, and it outperforms all other existing scheduling and dropping policies. © 2011 IEEE.

One major problem in applying object-oriented (OO) methodologies is the difficulty of identifying classes for a system. Many tried to use fuzzy set theory to model the objected-oriented system and many proposed linguistic method to do the object analysis. However, little work has been done to identify the classes in OO systematically. After carefully analyzing the cognitive procedure of human being, this paper proposes a two-step identification method: First, tracing the source (the entities in a real world) of a given system. Second, identifying classes via viewpoints based on the source. The method could help people find the intrinsic information and extrinsic concepts epistemologically and employs an informal procedure to get the classes of an OO system easily. © 2008 IEEE.

CPU time accounting is a basis of performance measurement and process scheduling in operating system. Accounting operations are traditionally completed in timer interrupt handler since timer interrupt is periodically delivered to OS. However, when virtualization introduced, the CPU time is shared by multiple virtual CPUs (i.e., VCPU for short) and the virtual timer interrupt is paused for those ones be scheduled out. This makes the time accounting be inaccurate, and we should consider new method for VM to provide a stable and reliable data source, especially for the hardware-assisted virtual machines (i.e., HVM for short) which are not aware of VMM. The key point of accurate CPU time accounting is to distinguish the time allocated to "this VCPU" and "other VCPUs". Para-virtualization (i.e., PV for short) achieves this goal by modifying the timer handling routines. For HVM, we propose an accurate accounting method (named XenHVMAcct) within Xen virtual platform. XenHVMAcct is designed by using the mechanisms of virtual interrupt and loadable kernel module, without direct modifications to guest OS. Experimental results show that our accounting method is as accurate as the PV solution. © 2010 IEEE.

Introducing the P2P (Peer-to-Peer) technology into SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) networks can improve VoIP (Voice on Internet Protocol) system's reliability and scalability, and reduce the operating costs. In order to provide better and more comprehensive services in VoIP system, it is necessary to communicate with the traditional telecommunications networks, including PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), by a voice gateway. The voice gateway system for P2P-based SIP VoIP builds the connection, and transforms signaling and media, between IP service network and PSTN. SIP-in-P2P is implemented in voice gateway system, using DHT (Distributed Hash Table) scheme to connect VGW (Voice Gateway) nodes in the P2P SIP network. Based on the GWMN (Gateway Management Node) protocol, the system can manage VGW nodes in the management domain, and designed the discovery strategies and load balancing strategies to improve the performance. Results indicate that the voice gateway system performs with good reliability, scalability, interoperability and feasibility. © 2011 IEEE.

Multiple Sequence Alignment (MSA) is a fundamental process in bioinformatics in which phylogenetic tree reconstruction is an essential operation. Neighbor-Joining algorithm is the best approach to reconstruct phylogenetic tree with its less time and space costs. With the rapid increase of biological sequences, it will take many hours or even days to reconstruct phylogenetic tree because of the complex computing for multiple sequence alignment. In this paper, two mechanisms for parallelizing Neighbor-Joining algorithm are proposed based on CUDA to get higher performance of lower time and space costs. Data dependency is reduced by converting the running mode and dynamic multiple granularity mechanism is used to figure out imbalance guiding tree with lower rate of resources occupation and higher efficiency. The parallelization mechanisms have achieved average speedups of 18.6 for thousands of datasets as well as far genetic relationship datasets compared to the basic method. © 2012 IEEE.

Virtualization can divide or aggregate the underlying resource flexibly, and it attracts attention from both academic and industry in recent years. Guest operating systems in virtual machines can be various, and the states of virtual machines changes all the time. Due to the complexity of virtual computing environment, it brings tremendous challenges for security monitoring. Existing monitoring mechanism can not adapt to the dynamic and diversity of virtual machines. Therefore, a comprehensive monitoring framework, named ComMon, is proposed in this paper, which implements comprehensive monitoring from three aspects: network, process, and file. In-memory caching of intermediate data and eager combining of data in shuffle buffers have been shown to be very effective in minimizing the re-computation and I/O cost in distributed data processing systems like Spark and Flink. However, it has also been widely reported that these techniques would create a large amount of long-living data objects in the heap, which may quickly saturate the garbage collector, especially when handling a large dataset, and hence would limit the scalability of the system. To eliminate this problem, we propose a lifetime-based memory management framework, which, by automatically analyzing the user defined functions and data types, obtains the expected life time of the data objects, and then allocates and releases memory space accordingly to minimize the garbage collection overhead. In particular, we present Deca, a concrete implementation of our proposal on top of Spark, which transparently decomposes and groups objects with similar life times into byte arrays and releases their space altogether when their lifetimes come to an end. An extensive experimental study using both synthetic and real datasets shows that, in comparing to Spark, Deca is able to 1) reduce the garbage collection time by up to 99.9%, 2) to achieve up to 22.7x speed up in terms of execution time in cases without data spilling and 41.6x speedup in cases with data spilling, and 3) to consume up to 46.6% less memory. © 2016 VLDB Endowment 21508097/16/08.
