Remote-sensing image processing applications demand large-scale, collaborative processing and storage capabilities. Computational grid can provide abundant powerful computational resources with sharing and cooperation in grid environment. This paper gives an introduction to a collaborative processing mechanism based on workflow technology implemented in Imagegrid. The main idea is to encapsulate all parallel algorithms of remote-sensing image processing into grid services and recombine them with grid workflow to satisfy more and more complex remote-sensing image processing applications. In particular, we describe the architecture of the workflow-based grid system and the processing flow. We also give out the algorithm classification and an example of remote-sensing image processing grid application.

Network forensics and honeynet systems have the same features of collecting information about the computer misuses. Honeynet system can lure attackers and gain information about new types of intrusions. Network forensics system can analysis and reconstruct the attack behaviors. These two systems integrating together can help to build an active self-learning and response system to profile the intrusion behavior features and investigate the attack original source. In this paper, we present a design of honeynet based active network intrusion response system. The features of our system are distributed adaptive network forensics and active real time network investigation. Copyright 2005 ACM.

To defend the IP spoofing and differentiate IP address in the network intrusion detection system and DDoS defense system, we give a novel approach Recursion Nearness to characterize the IP address features, which is also helpful to the other security applications, such as firewall log analysis, traffics filter rule management, intrusion investigation and IP trace back. We characterize the IP address with some fields, such as TTL, MAC, TCP/IP stack implementation fingerprinting and IP geographic location mapping. Major implementation approaches to the system are discussed and given. Experiment results of our system show that this method can characterize IP features more exact and efficiently.

Resource information service, as a key component of grid, is the basis of the resource allocation, resource performance evaluation and prediction. The validity of the resource information service directly influences the availability of the whole system. One of key points to make information service work well is the precise of the information collected, how to get the valid system information with low system cost has became a difficult problem in current information service. In this paper, we propose hybrid resource information service architecture based on grid monitoring architecture to promote the validity of the resource information service in grid. HRIC is an improved information service architecture that utilizes resource changing self-monitoring mechanism to offset the blind spot of the periodical information collection and combine the advantages of two traditional information collection methods - periodic collection and stochastic reporting, thereby improving the accuracy of resource information service. The emerging service grids bring together various distributed application-level services to a 'market' for clients to request and enable the integration of services across distributed, heterogeneous, dynamic virtual organizations. However, there are a number of applications with the requirement of time constraints. We propose a real-time strategy in service grid architecture. We also extend the OGSI grid service semantics for fault-tolerant. The real-time and fault-tolerant strategies seem efficient through experiments. © 2004 IEEE.

Distributed streaming servers based on clusters with multi-components have several failure points, which will destroy the systems or degrades the quality of services. How to provide reliable streaming services is a very important issue. Fault-tolerant schemes must be provided for video servers to improve system reliability and availability. This paper presents novel distributed media streaming services based on cluster architectures with fault-tolerant schemes, including video-on-demand services and video recording services. The new system eliminates three kinds of failure points and addresses the server and network failures, not only the disk or file failures. Experiment results have been proven that the system has better performance. © Springer-Verlag 2004.

With the rapid development of information technology, dramatic changes have been taken place in the fundamental ways that people acquire and disseminate knowledge. Various e-Learning systems have been designed to help people take full advantage of the benefit brought by the technology. The newly emerged Peer to Peer (P2P) and grid computing will serve as the key driven forces to bring revolutionary impact on the future society. This paper evaluates the potential contribution of the P2P and grid technology into the e-Learning system and introduces a novel P2P based e-Learning environment, called APPLE. With the help of Gnutella-like P2P network, APPLE provides live broadcasting services to share services of education resources. We build a virtual classroom service based on ***, which exposes the service as a grid service that could be accessed by all the users among the grid. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

gECC: A GPU-based high-throughput framework for Elliptic Curve Cryptography

Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is an encryption method that provides security comparable to traditional techniques like Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) but with lower computational complexity and smaller key sizes, making it a competitive option for applications such as blockchain, secure multi-party computation, and database security. However, the throughput of ECC is still hindered by the significant performance overhead associated with elliptic curve (EC) operations, which can affect their efficiency in real-world scenarios. This paper presents gECC, a versatile framework for ECC optimized for GPU architectures, specifically engineered to achieve high-throughput performance in EC operations. To maximize throughput, gECC incorporates batch-based execution of EC operations and microarchitecture-level optimization of modular arithmetic. It employs Montgomery’s trick [40] to enable batch EC computation and incorporates novel computation parallelization and memory management techniques to maximize the computation parallelism and minimize the access overhead of GPU global memory. Furthermore, we analyze the primary bottleneck in modular multiplication by investigating how the user codes of modular multiplication are compiled into hardware instructions and what these instructions’ issuance rates are. We identify that the efficiency of modular multiplication is highly dependent on the number of Integer Multiply-Add (IMAD) instructions. To eliminate this bottleneck, we propose novel techniques to minimize the number of IMAD instructions by leveraging predicate registers to pass the carry information and using addition and subtraction instructions (IADD3) to replace IMAD instructions. Our experimental results show that, for ECDSA and ECDH, the two commonly used ECC algorithms, gECC can achieve performance improvements of 5.56 × and 4.94 ×, respectively, compared to the state-of-the-art GPU-based system. Welcome to the proceedings of GCC2004 and the city of Wuhan. grid computing has become a mainstream research area in computer science and the GCC conference has become one of the premier forums for presentation of new and exciting research in all aspectsofgridandcooperativecomputing. Theprogramcommitteeispleasedtopresent the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on grid and Cooperative Comp- ing (GCC2004), which comprises a collection of excellent technical papers, posters, workshops, and keynote speeches. The papers accepted cover a wide range of exciting topics, including resource grid and service grid, information grid and knowledge grid, grid monitoring,managementand organizationtools, grid portal, grid service, Web s- vices and their QoS, service orchestration, grid middleware and toolkits, software glue technologies, grid security, innovative grid applications, advanced resource reservation andscheduling,performanceevaluationandmodeling,computer-supportedcooperative work, P2P computing, automatic computing, and meta-information management. The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 581 manuscripts (including workshop submissions) were submitted for consideration. Expecting this growth, the size of the program committee was increased from 50 members for GCC 2003 for 70 in GCC 2004. Relevant differences from previous editions of the conf- ence: it is worth mentioning a signi?cant increase in the number of papers submitted by authors from outside China; and the acceptance rate was much lower than for p- vious GCC conferences. From the 427 papers submitted to the main conference, the program committee selected only 96 regular papers for oral presentation and 62 short papers for poster presentation in the program.
