Multimedia data is usually represented with different low-level features, and different types of multimedia data, namely multimodal data, often coexist in many data sources. It is interesting and challenging to learn comprehensive semantics from multiple low-level features for multimodal data analysis. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, namely hierarchical multi-feature fusion for multimodal data semantics understanding. Our approach explores intra-modality structural information derived from each type of feature, and further proposes transductive inter-modality fusion strategy, which analyzes canonical correlation between different modalities. Extensive experiments are conducted on collected multimodal database for data classification application. The experiment results show that the performance of our algorithm is remarkable and demonstrate its superiority over several existing algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.

ESYN: Efficient synchronization clustering algorithm based on dynamic synchronization model

Clustering is an important research field in data mining. Based on dynamical synchronization model, an efficient synchronization clustering algorithm ESYN is proposed. Firstly, based on local structure information of a non-vector network, a new concept vertex similarity is brought up to describe the link density between vertices. Secondly, the network is vectoried by OPTICS algorithm and turned into one-dimensional coordination sequence. Finally, global coupling analysis is applied to generalized Kuramoto synchronization model, synchronization radius is increased and the optimal clustering result is automatically selected. The experimental results on a large number of synthetic and real-world networks show that proposed algorithm achieves high accuracy. ©, 2014, Editorial Board of Journal on Communications. Accurate and quick localization of randomly deployed nodes is required by many applications in wireless sensor networks and always formulated as a multidimensional optimization problem. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is feasible for the localization problem because of its quick convergence and moderate demand for computing resources. This paper proposes a distributed two-phase PSO algorithm to solve the flip ambiguity problem, improve the efficiency and precision. In this work, the initial search space is defined by bounding box method and a refinement phase is put forward to correct the error due to flip ambiguity. Moreover, the unknown nodes which only have two references or three near-collinear references are tried to be localized in our research. Simulation results indicate that the proposed distributed localization algorithm is superior to the previous algorithms.

The assignment of the airline planes to appropriate gates is complex combinatorial optimization. Most of the research works in previous literatures take the passengers' walking distance as the optimization objective. With the development of the air transportation, more and more transferring services are required. In this paper, a novel AGAP model is developed to meet this demand. A number of heuristic algorithms have been proposed to solve the AGAP. Those heuristics have the disadvantages of slow convergence and precocity, which affect the performance of the algorithms. The GRASP procedures have a series of good features: strong intuitive greedy appeals, prominent empirical track records, and trivial to be efficiently implemented on parallel processors. More important, GRASP can overcome the precocity. In this paper, a GRASP algorithm on AGAP is proposed to solve the AGAP problem. Experimental results demonstrate that our GRASP algorithm on AGAP evidently exceeds GA algorithms on the quality of solutions and time complexity. To explain why GRASP algorithm on AGAP has a better performance than GA, fitness landscape analysis is presented.

There is an important relationship between the stability of protein complex and hot region. Research has shown that in protein-protein interaction (PPI), residues are denser around the hot region. Therefore, this paper proposed an algorithm based on Gi statistics, regional division rule and regional amplification principle to form residue dense region (RDR);Then, according to the results of cascade classifier composed of Naive Bayes and Back-Propagation (BP) neural network classifier, non-hotspot residues in RDRs were removed;At length, we used binding free energy change value calculated from Robetta Server to modify predicted hot regions. The experimental results showd that the proposed method can effectively improve the prediction accuracy on hot regions.

Occupants' comfort is the primary target in a building operation. However their efforts are often neglected and ruled out from traditional control strategies of energy-efficient building management systems. Occupant-engaged control strategies have recently attracted many research attentions and demonstrated great potentials for energy saving. With them, occupants' behavior is incorporated into the closed-loop control methods in which their initiatives actively contribute to building services and energy utility by explicitly expressing their preferences. This work proposes an occupant-engaged demand response (DR) strategy for building automation in which occupants are actively engaged to adapt their energy consumption in response to incentive opportunities designed by facility managers. A model-based study and a Nash-Equilibrium-based solution are provided to assist facility managers with the design of social incentive policies to promote occupant participation, along with the guarantee of lucrativeness for a DR event. © 2014 IEEE.

We present a hybrid method for aspect-based sentiment analysis of Chinese restaurant reviews. Two main components are employed so as to extract feature-opinion pairs in the proposed method: domain independent language patterns found in Chinese and a lexical base built for restaurant reviews. The language patterns focus on the general knowledge which is implicit contained in Chinese, thus can be used directly by other domains without any modification. The lexical base, on the other hand, targets for particular characteristics of a given domain and acts as a plug-in part in our prototype system, thus does not affect the portability when applying the proposed approach in practice. Empirical evaluation shows that our method performs well and it can gain a progressive result when each component takes into effective. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.
