Online social networks have reshaped how multimedia contents are generated, distributed, and consumed on today's Internet. Given the massive number of user-generated contents shared in online social networks, users are moving to directly access these contents in their preferred social network services. It is intriguing to study the service provision of social contents for global users with satisfactory quality of experience. In this article, we conduct large-scale measurement of a real-world online social network system to study the social content propagation. We have observed important propagation patterns, including social locality, geographical locality, and temporal locality. Motivated by the measurement insights, we propose a propagationbased social-aware delivery framework using a hybrid edge-cloud and peer-assisted architecture. We also design replication strategies for the architecture based on three propagation predictors designed by jointly considering user, content, and context information. In particular, we design a propagation region predictor and a global audience predictor to guide how the edgecloud servers backup the contents, and a local audience predictor to guide how peers cache the contents for their friends. Our trace-driven experiments further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our design.

Sharing the Semantic Web data in proprietary datasets in which data is encoded in RDF triples in a decentralized environment calls for efficient support from distributed computing technologies. The highly dynamic ad-hoc settings that would be pervasive for Semantic Web data sharing among personal users in the future, however, pose even more demanding challenges for the enabling technologies. We extend previous work on a hybrid P2P architecture for an ad-hoc Semantic Web data sharing system which better models the data sharing scenario by allowing data to be maintained by its own providers and exhibits satisfactory scalability owing to the adoption of a two-level distributed index and hashing techniques. Additionally, we propose efficient distributed processing of SPARQL queries in such a context and explore optimization techniques that build upon distributed query processing for database systems and relational algebra optimization. We anticipate that our work will become an indispensable, complementary approach to making the Semantic Web a reality by delivering efficient data sharing and reusing in an ad-hoc environment. © 2013 IEEE.

Many patterns have been discovered to explain and analyze how people make friends. Among them is the triadic closure, supported by the principle of the transitivity of friendship, which means for an individual the friends of her friend are more likely to become her new friends. However, people's motivations under this principle haven't been well studied, and it's still unknown that how this principle works in diverse situations. In this paper, we try to study this principle deeply based on the behavior modeling. We study how one expands her egocentric network via her friends, also called intermediaries, based on the transitivity of friendship. We propose LaFT-Tree, a tree-based representation of friendship formation inspired from triadic closure. LaFT-Tree provides a hierarchical view of the flat structure of one's egocentric network by visualizing the expansion trace of one's egocentric network. We model people's friend-making behaviors using LaFT-LDA, a generative model for LaFT-Tree learning. The proposed model is evaluated on both synthetic and real-world social networks and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of LaFT-LDA for LaFT-Tree inference. We also present some interesting applications of the LaFT-Tree, showing that our model can be generalized and benefit other social network analysis tasks. © 2013 ACM.

It is very challenging to schedule a multi-cluster tool for it needs to coordinate the activities of multiple robots. This paper studies one-wafer cyclic scheduling for multi-cluster tools whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound. A Petri net model is developed to describe the system. Based on the model, it is shown that, for any multi-cluster tool whose bottleneck cluster tool is process-bound, there is always a one-wafer cyclic schedule. Then, a method is presented to find the minimal cycle time and the optimal one-wafer cyclic schedule. The method requires only simple calculation. An example illustrates the application and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate on the opportunistic routing in Multi-Power Wireless Sensor Networks (MP WSNs). We first propose a routing metric called METT of opportunistic routing in MP WSNs, and model the power selecting process as a Markov decision process for computing the METT metric. We describe the METT-based opportunistic routing problem, and design a polynomial time optimal algorithm for getting the optimal routing and power selection scheme. Theory analysis and experiments show that the proposed multi-power opportunistic routing can improve the data transmission efficiency, significantly reduce the energy consumption and the end-to-end transmission delay. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In order to avoid the detection of the spam system based on text, more and more spammers have embedded text information into the image. An image spam identification method based on gray-gradient co-occurrence matrix (GGCM) was proposed to detect image spam effectively. The feature of image was extracted through GGCM firstly, and then LS-SVM was used to do classification. The test results show that this method has higher classification accuracy and better real-time performance.

Among preemptive real-time uniprocessor scheduling algorithms, many researches, such as optimal and heuristic algorithms, considers only one task attribute and neglects also the variation of attributes. To understand the relations between task attributes and scheduling success ratio, we first define the sensitivity of scheduling success ratio to task attributes. Sensitivity means the intensity of variation of scheduling success ratio as task attributes varies. The paper analyzes the sensitivities of scheduling success ratio to arrival time, execution time, deadline and laxity respectively, which have close relations with scheduling. Based on the definition of sensitivity, we also define attributes' influence on scheduling success ratio, which is that the greater the influence, the higher the ratio. The essence of dynamic scheduling is a scheduling based on priority, with each dynamic algorithm matching a priority table, and vice versa. It is also much easier to infer the algorithm from the priority table, which can consider several task attributes. As priority table has various designs, it can correspond to a lot of algorithms, among which, many are inefficient. In order to deal with this kind of problem, we propose a new priority table design PTBM combining deadline and laxity based on the analysis of sensitivity and influence, which makes that a task with small deadline and large laxity has higher priority. We compare PTBM with EDF, LLF and PTD through simulation. The results verify the analysis of sensitivity and influence, and it also shows that PTBM outperforms on scheduling success ratio. It needs further exploration to design more efficient priority table by analyzing more task attributes' influence on scheduling success ratio, which includes criticalness, task type and so on. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
