Generation of multicolor vacuum ultraviolet pulses through four-wave sum-frequency mixing in argon

We demonstrate efficient generation of multicolor vacuum ultraviolet pulses with excellent mode quality through χ(3)-based four-wave sum-frequency mixing and third-order harmonic generation of 400- and 267-nm femtosecond laser pulses in argon gas. The χ(3)-based nonlinear optical processes were optimized with appropriate control of gas pressure and group velocity delay between the driving pulses. Furthermore, the pulse breakup effects were observed for tightly focused ultraviolet pulses.

Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) is one of the mobile wireless networks that cannot set up the end-to-end communication path between the source and destination nodes pair in most of time. In this paper, we propose an improved routing protocol named as Dynamic Spray & Wait (DS&W), which is based on Spray and Wait routing strategy attempting to gain the higher delivery ratio benefits of replication-based routing as well as the lower resource utilization benefits of forwarding-based routing. But different from S&W, DS&W routing strategy focus on dynamic control to reduce the scale of the messages' flooding by calculating the delivery success probabilities to destinations. DS&W routing protocol can dramatically reduce the overhead ratio in DTNs. Simulation results also evident that DS&W protocol outperforms other existing DTN routing protocols. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2012.

With the development of the Internet, high-quality streaming services, including Video-on-Demand, are more popular than ever with the help of P2P technologies. But peer-to-peer (P2P) on-demand streaming systems inevitably suffer from peer churn that is the inherent dynamic characteristic of overlay networks. With frequent peer departure and VCR operations, a large amount of media data cached on peer disks turn off-line and unavailable, which becomes the major reason of heavy server load. And the phenomenon has been proved by the system logs of self-developed P2P based Video-on-Demand platform, called GridCast. To address the above issues, a new proactive data replication mechanism is proposed and implemented into GirdCast. Based on the new mechanism, a peer can proactively replicate data chunks to stable cache servers for future sharing, when it has high possibility to leave the overlay. Two key heuristic algorithms are designed for departure prediction and replicating chunks selection. And the cache servers managements are also described in the submission. Trace driven simulations show that the mechanisms greatly decrease bandwidth load of media source server and improve the availability of chunks highly demanded but poorly provisioned by overlay peers. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. As cloud computing brings ease of use and cost-saving features, the security and privacy of data is simultaneously becoming very challenging. The security of cloud data can be classified into two aspects: static storage security and dynamic processing security. Current researches only focus on either storage security or protecting the safety of data processing service. To offer a comprehensive data security solution, we present a secure data storage and processing framework (SDSPF) for cloud computing systems, which protects the whole life cycle of user data. © 2012 Springer science+Business Media.

Smart card-based authentication is considered as one of the most excessively used and applied solutions for remote user authentication. In this paper, we display Wang et al.'s scheme and indicate many shortcomings in their scheme. Password guessing, masquerade, Denial-Of-Service (DOS) and insider attacks could be effective. To outfight the drawbacks, we propose a strong, more secure and practical scheme, which is aimed to withstand wellknown attacks. In addition, our proposed scheme provides many pivotal merits: more functions for security and effectiveness, mutual authentication, key agreement, freely chosen password, secure password change, and user anonymity. Moreover, our proposed scheme is shown to be secure against replay attack, password guessing attack, DOS attack, insider attack, and impersonate attack. Furthermore, the security analysis of our work gains it to appear in applications with high-security requirements. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

Multiple Sequence Alignment (MSA) is a fundamental process in bioinformatics in which phylogenetic tree reconstruction is an essential operation. Neighbor-Joining algorithm is the best approach to reconstruct phylogenetic tree with its less time and space costs. With the rapid increase of biological sequences, it will take many hours or even days to reconstruct phylogenetic tree because of the complex computing for multiple sequence alignment. In this paper, two mechanisms for parallelizing Neighbor-Joining algorithm are proposed based on CUDA to get higher performance of lower time and space costs. Data dependency is reduced by converting the running mode and dynamic multiple granularity mechanism is used to figure out imbalance guiding tree with lower rate of resources occupation and higher efficiency. The parallelization mechanisms have achieved average speedups of 18.6 for thousands of datasets as well as far genetic relationship datasets compared to the basic method. © 2012 IEEE.

Virtualization can divide or aggregate the underlying resource flexibly, and it attracts attention from both academic and industry in recent years. Guest operating systems in virtual machines can be various, and the states of virtual machines changes all the time. Due to the complexity of virtual computing environment, it brings tremendous challenges for security monitoring. Existing monitoring mechanism can not adapt to the dynamic and diversity of virtual machines. Therefore, a comprehensive monitoring framework, named ComMon, is proposed in this paper, which implements comprehensive monitoring from three aspects: network, process, and file. It has the characteristics of real-time, transparency and generality. © 2012 IEEE.

Biometric systems based on a single source of information suffer from limitations such as the lack of uniqueness, non-universality of the chosen biometric trait, noisy data and spoof attacks. Multimodal biometrics are relatively new systems that overcome those problems. These systems fuse information from multiple sources in order to achieve the better person recognition performance. In this paper, the 2D and 3D information of palmprint are integrated in order to construct an efficient multimodal biometric system based on fusion at matching score level and at feature extraction level. The observation vectors are created independently either from the original data of the two modalities (2D and 3D palmprint) or from their rotation invariant variance measures applied on textures. On each modality (or its corresponding invariant texture), we have applied the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for reducing dimension of the feature vector. We have also used the multi-scale wavelet decomposition for each modality and the results of decomposition are combined and compressed using PCA for selecting the feature vectors. Subsequently, we have used the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for modeling the feature vectors. Finally, Log-likelihood scores are used for palmprint evaluation. We note that the selected principal components of two modalities are fused at feature level and at matching score level. The proposed scheme is tested and evaluated using PolyU 2D and 3D palmprint database of 250 persons. Our experimental results show the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed system, which brings high identification accuracy rate. © 2013 - IOS Press and the author(s). All rights reserved.

Constructive Interference (CI) proposed in the existing work (e.g., A-MAC [1], Glossy [2]) may degrade the packet reception performance in terms of Packet Reception Ratio (PRR) and Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). The packet reception performance of a set of nodes transmitting simultaneously might be no better than that of any single node transmitting individually. In this paper, we redefine CI and propose TriggerCast, a practical wireless architecture which ensures concurrent transmissions of an identical packet to interfere constructively rather than to interfere non-destructively. CI potentially allows orders of magnitude reductions in energy consumption and improvements in link quality. Moreover, we for the first time present a theoretical sufficient condition for generating CI with IEEE 802.15.4 radio: concurrent transmissions with an identical packet should be synchronized at chip level. Meanwhile, co-senders participating in concurrent transmissions should be carefully selected, and the starting instants for the concurrent transmissions should be aligned. Based on the sufficient condition, we propose practical techniques to effectively compensate propagation and radio processing delays. TriggerCast has 95 th percentile synchronization errors of at most 250ns. Extensive experiments in practical testbeds reveal that TriggerCast significantly improves PRR (from 5% to 70% with 7 concurrent senders, from 50% to 98.3% with 6 senders) and RSSI (about 6dB with 5 senders).
