A Dependability Model for TMR system

Much research has been done on the dependability evaluation of computer systems. However, much of this is gone no further than study of the fault coverage of such systems, with little focus on the relationship between fault coverage and overall system dependability. In this paper, a Markovian dependability model for triple-modular-redundancy (TMR) system is presented. Having fully considered the effects of fault coverage, working time, and constant failure rate of single module on the dependability of the target TMR system, the model is built based on the stepwise degradation strategy. Through the model, the relationship between the fault coverage and the dependability of the system is determined. What is more, the dependability of the system can be dynamically and precisely predicted at any given time with the fault coverage set. This will be of much benefit for the dependability evaluation and improvement, and be helpful for the system design and maintenance.

For the big data, the fingerprints of the data chunks are very huge and cannot be stored in the memory completely. Accordingly, a new query mechanism namely Two-stage Bloom Filter mechanism is proposed. First, each bit of the second grade bloom filter represents the chunks having the identical fingerprints which reducing the rate of false positives. Second, a two-dimensional list is created corresponding to the two grade bloom filter to gather the absolute addresses of the data chunks with the identical fingerprints. Finally, we suggest a new hash function class with the strong global random characteristic. Two-stage Bloom Filter decreases the number of accessing disks, improves the speed of detecting the redundant data chunks, and reduces the rate of false positive. Our experiments indicate that Two-stage Bloom Filter reduces about 30~40% storage accessing of false positive with the same length of the first grade Bloom Filter. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Membrane computing is an emergent branch of natural computing, which is inspired by the structure and the functioning of living cells, as well as the organization of cells in tissues, organs, and other higher order structures. Tissue P systems are a class of the most investigated computing mod- els in the framework of membrane computing, especially in the aspect of efficiency. To generate an exponential resource in a polynomial time, cell separation is incorporated into such systems, thus obtaining so called tissue P systems with cell separation. In this work, we exploit the computational efficiency of this model and construct a uniform family of such tissue P systems for solving the independent set problem, a well-known NP-complete problem, by which an efficient so- lution can be obtained in polynomial time.

This paper proposes a new algebraic system, Test Algebra (TA), for identifying faults in combinatorial testing for SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) applications. SaaS as a part of cloud computing is a new software delivery model, and mission-critical applications are composed, deployed, and executed in cloud platforms. Testing SaaS applications is a challenging task because new applications need to be tested when they are composed before they can be deployed for execution. Combinatorial testing algorithms can be used to identify faulty configurations and interactions from 2-way all the way to k-way where k is the number of components in the application. The TA defines rules to identify faulty configurations and interactions. Using the rules defined in the TA, a collection of configurations can be tested concurrently in different servers and in any order and the results obtained will be still same due to the algebraic constraints.

We propose a novel snowdrift game model with edge weighting mechanism to explore the cooperative behaviors among the players on the square lattice. Based on the assumption of three types of weight distribution including uniform, exponential and power-law schemes, the cooperation level is largely boosted in contrast with the traditional snowdrift game on the unweighted square lattice. Exten- sive numerical simulations indicate that the fraction of cooperators greatly augments, especially for the intermediate range of cost-to-benefit ratio r. Furthermore, we investigate how the cooperative behaviors are affected by the undulation amplitude of weight distribution and noise strength of strat- egy selection, respectively. The simulation results will be conducive to further understanding and analyzing the emergence of cooperation, which is a ubiquitous phenomenon in social and biological science.

Decentralized Cooperation Strategies in Two-Dimensional Traffic of Cellular Automata

We study the two-dimensional traffic of cellular automata using computer simulation. We propose two type of decentralized cooperation strategies, which are called stepping aside (CS-SA) and choosing alternative routes (CS-CAR) respectively. We introduce them into an existing two-dimensional cellular automata (CA) model. CS-SA is designed to prohibit a kind of ping-pong jump when two objects standing together try to move in opposite directions. CS-CAR is designed to change the solution of conflict in parallel update. CS-CAR encourages the objects involved in parallel conflicts choose their alternative routes instead of waiting. We also combine the two cooperation strategies (CS-SA-CAR) to test their combined effects. It is found that the system keeps on a partial jam phase with nonzero velocity and flow until the density reaches one. The ratios of the ping-pong jump and the waiting objects involved in conflict are decreased obviously, especially at the free phase. And the average flow is improved by the three cooperation strategies. Although the average travel time is lengthened a bit by CS-CAR, it is shorten by CS-SA and CS-SA-CAR. In addition, we discuss the advantage and applicability of decentralized cooperation modeling.

Group communication services （GCSs） are becoming increasingly important as a wide field of promising applications has emerged to serve millions of users distributed across the ***,it is challenging to make the service fault tolerance and scalable to fulfill the voluminous demand of users in a distributed network （DN）.While many reliable group communication protocols have been dedicated to addressing such a challenge so as to accommodate the changes in the network,they are often costly or require complicated strategies to handle the service interruptions caused by node departures or link failures,which hinders the service *** this paper,we present two schemes to address the *** first one is a location-aware replication scheme called NS,which makes replicas in a dispersed fashion that enables the services on nodes to gain immunity of failures with different patterns （e.g.,network partition and single point failure） while keeping replication overhead *** second one is a novel failure recovery scheme that exploits the independence between service recovery and structure recovery in time domain to achieve quick failure *** simulation results indicate that the two proposed schemes outperform the existing schemes and simple alternative schemes in service success rate,recovery latency,and communication cost.

Mesh Smoothing Method Based on Local Wave Analysis

As the mesh models usually contain noise data,it is necessary to eliminate the noises and smooth the *** existed methods always lose geometric features during the smoothing ***,the noise is considered as a kind of random signal with high frequency,and then the mesh model smoothing is operated with signal processing *** wave analysis is used to deal with geometric signal,and then a novel mesh smoothing method based on the local wave is *** proposed method includes following steps：Firstly,analyze the principle of local wave decomposition for 1D signal,and expand it to 2D signal and 3D spherical surface signal processing;Secondly,map the mesh to the spherical surface with parameterization,resample the spherical mesh and decompose the spherical signals by local wave analysis;Thirdly,propose the coordinate smoothing and radical radius smoothing methods,the former filters the mesh points＇ coordinates by local wave,and the latter filters the radical radius from their geometric center to mesh points by local wave;Finally,remove the high-frequency component of spherical signal,and obtain the smooth mesh model with inversely mapping from the spherical *** mesh models with Gaussian noise are processed by local wave based method and other compared *** results show that local wave based method can obtain better smoothing performance,and reserve more original geometric features at the same time.

Ta_(2)O_(5) films are deposited on fused silica substrates by electron beam evaporation *** optical property,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,band gap and nanosecond laser-induced damage threshold(LIDT)of the films before and after annealing are *** is found that the existence of an oxygen vacancy results in the decrease of the transmittance,refractive index,both macroscopic band gap and microscopic band gap,and the LIDT of Ta_(2)O_(5) *** the oxygen vacancy forms,the macroscopic band gap decreases 2%.However,when the oxygen vacancy forms the microscopic band gap decreases 73%for crystalline Ta_(2)O_(5) and 77%for amorphous Ta_(2)O_(5).The serious decrease of microscopic band gap may significantly increase the absorbance of the micro-area in Ta_(2)O_(5) films when irradiated by laser,thus the damage probability *** is consistent with our experimental results that the LIDT of the as-deposited Ta_(2)O_(5) films is 7.3 J/cm^(2),which increases 26%to 9.2 J/cm^(2) when the oxygen vacancy is eliminated after annealing.

In manufacturing execution system (MES), Since scheduling of multiple projects is a complex and timeconsuming task, a large number of heuristic rules have been proposed by researchers for such problems. However, each of these rules is usually appropriate for only one specific type of problem. Since the Genetic Algorithm (GA) has its immanent limitations and the Simulated Annealing (SA) Algorithm has the advantages in some aspects, combined these two algorithms together just achieve the perfection. In view of this, a hybrid of GA and SA (GA-SA Hybrid) is proposed in this paper to solve job-shop scheduling problem. The algorithm making the crossover and mutation probability adjusted adaptively and nonlinearly with the completion time, can avoid such disadvantages as premature convergence. The approach is tested on a set of standard instances and compared with other approaches. The Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2012 IEEE.
