As cloud services proliferate, it becomes difficult to facilitate service composition and testing in clouds. In traditional service-oriented computing, service composition and testing are carried out independently. This paper proposes a new approach to manage services on the cloud so that it can facilitate service composition and testing. The paper uses service implementation selection to facilitate service composition similar to Google's Guice and Spring tools, and apply the group testing technique to identify the oracle, and use the established oracle to perform continuous testing for new services or compositions. The paper extends the existing concept of template based service composition and focus on testing the same workflow of service composition. In addition, all these testing processes can be executed in parallel, and the paper illustrates how to apply service-level MapReduce [1] technique to accelerate the testing process.

In a tupical cloud environment, services wait to serve users' request. If a service receives more requests than it can handle, it needs to acquire additional resources. This paper proposes a new service replications that allows a cloud to adjust its service instance deployments in response to existing and projected service request loads. This approach is called Service-Level MapReduce (SLMR) because itis based on MapReduce, a parallel processing mechanism commonly used in cloud environments such as GAE (Google App Engin. SLMRincludes dynamic service replication and pre-deployed service replication. Furthermore, a passive SLMR approach that depends on the cloud management service (CMS) and an active SLMR approach that does not need the support from CMS will be introduced.

The performance of a service's QoS may evolve relatively frequently with its internal changes or the changes of dynamic Internet environment, especially when some "intentional" deceptions are taken into consideration. Therefore, the service providers could not always deliver their services according to their "promised" quality. In view of this challenge, a history record-based service optimization method, named HireSome, is investigated in this paper. This method aims at enhancing the credibility of service composition plan, taking advantage of a web service's QoS history records, rather than using the tentative QoS values advertised by the service provider. At last, a case study and an experiment is presented for validating the method. © 2011 IEEE.

由于RDF(Resource Description Framework)具有表达灵活、简洁等优点,已被接受为表达元数据及万维网上数据互联的规范。近年来,其数据量以飞快的速度增长,相应地,要求存储RDF数据的系统应具有高扩展性。大规模RDF数据库系统TripleBit旨在为大规模RDF数据提供一个高效的存储和查询方案。为尽可能降低存储空间消耗,采用了增量压缩和变长整数编码方法。并采用了数据分块的存储方法,既使得存储管理方便又使得存储结构紧凑,加速了数据读取。系统提供了基于启发式规则的动态查询计划生成方法。所产生的查询计划在执行过程中根据中间结果会相应作调整,以保持最优的执行顺序。对于多变量的查询,使用二步执行策略以减少查询过程中产生的中间结果。与当前著名系统RDF-3X相比,TripleBit具有较好的性能。

This paper proposes a novel face recognition algorithm inspired by the selective attention of Human Visual system (HVS). We record four observers' eye movements when they are viewing 100 FRGC [1] frontal view face images and find that the observers are highly consistent in the regions fixated. Inspired by the fact that fovea of HVS has a much higher spatial acuity than the periphery, a face recognition algorithm based on spatial variant sampling is proposed to simulate such foveated imaging phenomenon, where more information is reserved for the fixated regions. Moreover, information extracted from glance which adopts the low spatial frequency components of the image is integrated into the face recognition system to elicit a percept that occurs before any fixations. The experimental results on FERET database [2] demonstrate that the proposed method not only reduces the computational cost, but also achieves comparable performance, which shows that the characteristics of the HVS provide valuable insights into face recognition. © 2011 IEEE.

Dielectric response and space charge behaviour of oil-paper insulation sample with different moisture contents were investigated using the frequency dielectric spectroscopy (FDS) and the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) technique, respectively. The influence of moisture on the dielectric response and space charge behaviour of oil impregnated paper insulation was analysed. Results show that the moisture has great effect on the FDS and space charge behaviour of oil impregnated paper insulation. In the frequency range of 10 -2∼106Hz, the conductivity and the capacitance of oil impregnated paper increases with its moisture content. The space charge distribution of oil-paper sample with lower and higher moisture contents is very different from each other. The higher the moisture concentration of the oil impregnated paper, the easier the negative charge penetration into the insulation paper. There is a significant amount of positive charge accumulated at the paper-paper interface near to the cathode for oilpaper sample with lower moisture content. However, the positive charge appears in the middle layer paper for oil-paper sample with higher moisture content. Due to the high conductivity, the charge trapped in the oil-paper sample with higher moisture content disappears much faster than that in the oil-paper sample with lower moisture content after removing the voltage.

We present a fast collision detection method for deformable surfaces with parallel spatial hashing on GPU architecture. The efficient update and access of the uniform grid are exploited to accelerate the performance in our method. To deal with the inflexible memory system, which makes the building of stream data a challenging task on GPU, we propose to subdivide the whole workload into irregular segments and design an efficient evaluation algorithm, which employs parallel scan and stream compaction, to build the stream data in parallel. The load balancing is a key aspect that needs to be considered in the SIMD parallelism. We break the heavy and irregular collision computation down into lightweight part and heavyweight part, ensuring the later perfectly run in load balancing manner with each concurrent thread processes just a single collision. In practice, our approach can perform collision detection in tens of milliseconds on a PC with NVIDIAGTX 260 graphics card on benchmarks composed of millions of triangles. The results highlight our speedups over prior CPU-based and GPU-based algorithms. © 2011 IEEE.

Summary form only given. Although Multi-touch devices have become common in the consumer world, users have sacrificed the tactile feedback afforded by physical buttons. The Bristol Interaction and Graphics group has been exploring various technical solutions to create the next generation of touch interfaces that support multi-point haptic feedback as well as dynamic allocation of views to different users. In this talk I will present UltraHaptics a multi-point haptic feedback system that allows users to experience haptic feedback simultaneously in multiple locations on an interactive surface. This feedback is created in midair - so users don't have to touch or hold any device to experience it. Another system I will be talking about it PiVOT, a tabletop system where users can come together and view shared content or by leaning forward can get personalised views that are only visible from their particular view-point. This talk will present our recent research endeavors in this direction and present some design challenges.

Recently, Gutiérrez-Naranjo and Leporati considered performing basic arithmetic operations on a new class of bioinspired computing devices - spiking neural P systems (for short, SN P systems). However, the binary encoding mechanism used in their research looks like the encoding approach in electronic circuits, instead of the style of spiking neurons (in usual SN P systems, information are encoded as the time interval between spikes). In this work, three SN P systems are constructed as adder, subtracter and multiplier, respectively. In these devices, a number is inputted to the system as the interval of time elapsed between two spikes received by input neuron, the result of a computation is the time between the moments when the output neuron spikes. © 2011 IEEE.

The limitation of the existing methods of traffic data collection is that they rely on techniques that are strictly local in nature. The airborne system in unmanned aircrafts provides the advantages of wider view angle and higher mobility. However, detecting vehicles in airborne videos is a challenging task because of the scene complexity and platform movement. Most of the techniques used in stationary platforms cannot perform well in this situation. A new and efficient method based on Bayes model is proposed in this paper. This method can be divided into two stages, attention focus extraction and vehicle classification. Experimental results demonstrated that, compared with other representative algorithms, our method obtained better performance with higher detection rate, lower false positive rate and faster detection speed. © 2011 IEEE.
