The Amodal Instance Segmentation (AIS) task aims to infer the visible and occluded regions of an object instance. Existing AIS methods typically focus on directly predicting visible and occluded regions or leveraging prior knowledge to guide predictions. However, these methods often ignore the perception of occluded views, leading to inaccurate results. To address this issue and achieve high-quality AIS, we propose a boundary-aware Occlusion Perception Network (OPNet). OPNet consists of three main components: the Dynamic Feature Augmentation Pyramid (DFAP), the Dual-path Boundary Aware Module (DBAM), and the Shape-guide Refinement Module (SRM). Specifically, DBAM employs an occlusion-perception strategy to learn discriminative features with boundary information, enabling it to distinguish occlusion from multiple views. Additionally, DFAP and SRM optimize the results by enhancing feature aggregation and imposing geometric constraints. Experiments on the D2SA, KINS, and CWALT datasets show that OPNet significantly outperforms state-of-the-art AIS methods that without prior knowledge. Asia stands out as a priority for urgent biodiversity conservation due to its large protected areas(PAs)and threatened *** the 21st century,both the highlands and lowlands of Asia have been experiencing the dramatic human ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity is poorly ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity over 2000 to 2020 in Asia at the continental(Asia),national(48 Asian countries),and hotspot(6,502 Asian terrestrial PAs established before 2000)scales is investigated by integrating multiple large-scale *** results show that human expansion poses widespread threat to biodiversity in Asia,especially in Southeast Asia,with Malaysia,Cambodia,and Vietnam having the largest threat degrees(~1.5 to 1.7 times of the Asian average level).Human expansion in highlands induces higher threats to biodiversity than that in lowlands in one-third Asian countries(most Southeast Asian countries).The regions with threats to biodiversity are present in~75%terrestrial PAs(including 4,866 PAs in 26 countries),and human expansion in PAs triggers higher threat degrees to biodiversity than that in *** findings provide novel insight for the Sustainable Development Goal 15(SDG-15 Life on Land)and suggest that human expansion in Southeast Asian countries and PAs might hinder the realization of *** reduce the threat degree,Asian developing countries should accelerate economic transformation,and the developed countries in the world should reduce the demands for commodity trade in Southeast Asian countries(i.e.,trade leading to the loss of wildlife habitats)to alleviate human expansion,especially in PAs and highlands.

The blockchain ecosystem is expanding as a result of advancements in blockchain technology and the emergence of BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) platforms. Smart contracts are designed to carry out diverse business operations, but there is a risk of Ponzi schemes being concealed within them. These schemes masquerade as investment agreements and deceive users, resulting in substantial losses for the blockchain community. Detecting Ponzi schemes in smart contracts is crucial. This study introduces a machine learning approach to identify Ponzi schemes by extracting features from smart contracts using the control flow graph. During the construction of the control flow graph for the smart contract's bytecode, elements unrelated to its functionality are identified and eliminated. We utilize the control flow graph to extract n-gram Term Frequency and n-gram Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency features. These features are respectively employed to construct a Random Forest model for Ponzi scheme detection. To address the issue of imbalanced samples, the SVM_SMOTE oversampling algorithm is applied to balance the number of positive and negative samples. The results from experiments conducted on a real-world dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. The feature extraction method based on the control flow graph outperforms the method based on continuous text. Additionally, the Random Forest model utilizing SVM_SMOTE outperforms four existing models. © 2023 IEEE.

Emerging cross-point memory can in-situ perform vector-matrix multiplication (VMM) for energy-efficient scientific computation. However, parasitic-capacitance-induced row charging and discharging latency is a major performance bottleneck of subarray VMM. We propose a memory-timing-compliant bulk VMM processing-using-memory design with row access and column access co-optimization from rethinking of read access commands and μ-op timing. We propose row-level-parallelism-adaptive timing termination mechanism to reduce tail latency of tRCD and tRP by exploiting row nonlinear charging and bulk-interleaved row-column-cooperative VMM access mechanism to reduce tRAS and overlap CL without increasing column ADC precision. Evaluations show that our design can achieve 5.03× performance speedup compared with an aggressive baseline.

This paper presents our Facial Action Units (AUs) detection submission to the fifth Affective Behavior Analysis in-the-wild Competition (ABAW). Our approach consists of three main modules: (i) a pre-trained facial representation encoder which produce a strong facial representation from each input face image in the input sequence; (ii) an AU-specific feature generator that specifically learns a set of AU features from each facial representation; and (iii) a spatio-temporal graph learning module that constructs a spatio-temporal graph representation. This graph representation describes AUs contained in all frames and predicts the occurrence of each AU based on both the modeled spatial information within the corresponding face and the learned temporal dynamics among frames. The experimental results show that our approach outperformed the baseline and the spatio-temporal graph representation learning allows our model to generate the best results among all ablated systems. Our model ranks at the 4th place in the AU recognition track at the 5th ABAW Competition. Our code is publicly available at https://***/wzh125/ABAW-5.

When the Metaverse Meets Carbon Neutrality: Ongoing Efforts and Directions

The metaverse has recently gained increasing attention from the public. It builds up a virtual world where we can live as a new role regardless of the role we play in the physical world. However, building and operating this virtual world will generate an extraordinary amount of carbon emissions for computing, communicating, displaying, and so on. This inevitably hinders the realization of carbon neutrality as a priority of our society, adding heavy burden to our earth. In this survey, we first present a green viewpoint of the metaverse by investigating the carbon issues in its three core layers, namely the infrastructure layer, the interaction layer, and the economy layer, and estimate their carbon footprints in the near future. Next, we analyze a range of current and emerging applicable green techniques for the purpose of reducing energy usage and carbon emissions of the metaverse, and discuss their limitations in supporting metaverse workloads. Then, in view of these limitations, we discuss important implications and bring forth several insights and future directions to make each metaverse layer greener. After that, we investigate green solutions from the governance perspective, including both public policies in the physical world and regulation of users in the virtual world, and propose an indicator Carbon Utility (CU) to quantify the service quality brought by an user activity per unit of carbon emissions. Finally, we identify an issue for the metaverse as a whole and summarize three directions: (1) a comprehensive consideration of necessary performance metrics, (2) a comprehensive consideration of involved layers and multiple internal components, and (3) a new assessing, recording, and regulating mechanism on carbon footprints of user activities. To endow the simulated quadruped robot with autonomous action control capabilities, this paper proposes the use of the PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization) algorithm, a deep reinforcement learning technique, to enable the quadruped robot to make autonomous decisions during walking tasks. Since walking tasks involve continuous actions that depend not only on the current state but also on past actions and states, this paper improves the PPO algorithm with LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) to enhance the autonomous decision-making ability of the quadruped robot during walking. Using PyBullet to simulate the walking environment of the quadruped robot, experiments have verified that the improved PPO algorithm significantly outperforms the unimproved PPO algorithm in terms of performance.

Log creation, maintenance, and its persist ordering are known to be performance bottlenecks for durable transactions on persistent memory. Existing hardware persistent memory transactions overlook an important opportunity for improving performance: some persistent data is algorithmically redundant such that it can be recovered from other data, removing the need for logging such data. The paper presents an ISA extension that enables selective logging for hardware persistent memory transactions for the first time. The ISA extension features two novel components: fine-grain logging and lazy persistency. Fine-grain logging allows hardware to log updates on data in the granularity of words without lengthening the critical path of data accesses. Lazy persistency allows updated data to remain in the cache after the transaction commits. Together, the new hardware persistent memory transaction outperforms the state-of-the-art hardware counterpart by 1.8× on average.

WebCode2M: A Real-World Dataset for Code Generation from Webpage Designs

Automatically generating webpage code from webpage designs can significantly reduce the workload of front-end developers, and recent Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown promising potential in this area. However, our investigation reveals that most existing MLLMs are constrained by the absence of high-quality, large-scale, real-world datasets, resulting in inadequate performance in automated webpage code generation. To fill this gap, this paper introduces WebCode2M, a new dataset comprising 2.56 million instances, each containing a design image along with the corresponding webpage code and layout details. Sourced from real-world web resources, WebCode2M offers a rich and valuable dataset for webpage code generation across a variety of applications. The dataset quality is ensured by a scoring model that filters out instances with aesthetic deficiencies or other incomplete elements. To validate the effectiveness of WebCode2M, we introduce a baseline model based on the Vision Transformer (ViT), named WebCoder, and establish a benchmark for fair comparison. Additionally, we introduce a new metric, TreeBLEU, to measure the structural hierarchy recall. The benchmarking results demonstrate that our dataset significantly improves the ability of MLLMs to generate code from webpage designs, confirming its effectiveness and usability for future applications in front-end design tools.
