Asia stands out as a priority for urgent biodiversity conservation due to its large protected areas(PAs)and threatened *** the 21st century,both the highlands and lowlands of Asia have been experiencing the dramatic human ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity is poorly ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity over 2000 to 2020 in Asia at the continental(Asia),national(48 Asian countries),and hotspot(6,502 Asian terrestrial PAs established before 2000)scales is investigated by integrating multiple large-scale *** results show that human expansion poses widespread threat to biodiversity in Asia,especially in Southeast Asia,with Malaysia,Cambodia,and Vietnam having the largest threat degrees(~1.5 to 1.7 times of the Asian average level).Human expansion in highlands induces higher threats to biodiversity than that in lowlands in one-third Asian countries(most Southeast Asian countries).The regions with threats to biodiversity are present in~75%terrestrial PAs(including 4,866 PAs in 26 countries),and human expansion in PAs triggers higher threat degrees to biodiversity than that in *** findings provide novel insight for the Sustainable Development Goal 15(SDG-15 Life on Land)and suggest that human expansion in Southeast Asian countries and PAs might hinder the realization of *** reduce the threat degree,Asian developing countries should accelerate economic transformation,and the developed countries in the world should reduce the demands for commodity trade in Southeast Asian countries(i.e.,trade leading to the loss of wildlife habitats)to alleviate human expansion,especially in PAs and highlands.

Metamorphic Relation (MR) plays a crucial role in Metamorphic Testing (MT), which can be regarded as the implication relation from the input pattern to the output pattern. Based on MR's properties, the identification of Metamorphic Relations (MRs) can be from its input pattern and output pattern, respectively. However, the finding of the effective input pattern is very first and important. Especially for complicated mathematical function includes more than two input variables, we systematically analyze the structural model of input pattern in MR, propose the concept of the class of basic input pattern, as well as prove that any one input pattern can be expressed as a combination of basic input patterns in scientific computing programs. Moreover, the structural model of input pattern in MR is established based on previous proof. Finally, we put forward an identification algorithm framework and analysis its complexity. The core contribution of our method is to decompose the input pattern identification problem in multi-dimensional space into a single one-dimensional. For this reason, the examples show that the complexity of the algorithm is reduced significantly. © 2022 IEEE.

The blockchain ecosystem is expanding as a result of advancements in blockchain technology and the emergence of BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) platforms. Smart contracts are designed to carry out diverse business operations, but there is a risk of Ponzi schemes being concealed within them. These schemes masquerade as investment agreements and deceive users, resulting in substantial losses for the blockchain community. Detecting Ponzi schemes in smart contracts is crucial. This study introduces a machine learning approach to identify Ponzi schemes by extracting features from smart contracts using the control flow graph. During the construction of the control flow graph for the smart contract's bytecode, elements unrelated to its functionality are identified and eliminated. We utilize the control flow graph to extract n-gram Term Frequency and n-gram Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency features. These features are respectively employed to construct a Random Forest model for Ponzi scheme detection. To address the issue of imbalanced samples, the SVM_SMOTE oversampling algorithm is applied to balance the number of positive and negative samples. The results from experiments conducted on a real-world dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. The feature extraction method based on the control flow graph outperforms the method based on continuous text. Additionally, the Random Forest model utilizing SVM_SMOTE outperforms four existing models. © 2023 IEEE.

When the Metaverse Meets Carbon Neutrality: Ongoing Efforts and Directions

The metaverse has recently gained increasing attention from the public. It builds up a virtual world where we can live as a new role regardless of the role we play in the physical world. However, building and operating this virtual world will generate an extraordinary amount of carbon emissions for computing, communicating, displaying, and so on. This inevitably hinders the realization of carbon neutrality as a priority of our society, adding heavy burden to our earth. In this survey, we first present a green viewpoint of the metaverse by investigating the carbon issues in its three core layers, namely the infrastructure layer, the interaction layer, and the economy layer, and estimate their carbon footprints in the near future. Next, we analyze a range of current and emerging applicable green techniques for the purpose of reducing energy usage and carbon emissions of the metaverse, and discuss their limitations in supporting metaverse workloads. Then, in view of these limitations, we discuss important implications and bring forth several insights and future directions to make each metaverse layer greener. After that, we investigate green solutions from the governance perspective, including both public policies in the physical world and regulation of users in the virtual world, and propose an indicator Carbon Utility (CU) to quantify the service quality brought by an user activity per unit of carbon emissions. Finally, we identify an issue for the metaverse as a whole and summarize three directions: (1) a comprehensive consideration of necessary performance metrics, (2) a comprehensive consideration of involved layers and multiple internal components, and (3) a new assessing, recording, and regulating mechanism on carbon footprints of user activities. Log creation, maintenance, and its persist ordering are known to be performance bottlenecks for durable transactions on persistent memory. Existing hardware persistent memory transactions overlook an important opportunity for improving performance: some persistent data is algorithmically redundant such that it can be recovered from other data, removing the need for logging such data. The paper presents an ISA extension that enables selective logging for hardware persistent memory transactions for the first time. The ISA extension features two novel components: fine-grain logging and lazy persistency. Fine-grain logging allows hardware to log updates on data in the granularity of words without lengthening the critical path of data accesses. Lazy persistency allows updated data to remain in the cache after the transaction commits. Together, the new hardware persistent memory transaction outperforms the state-of-the-art hardware counterpart by 1.8× on average.

WebCode2M: A Real-World Dataset for Code Generation from Webpage Designs

Automatically generating webpage code from webpage designs can significantly reduce the workload of front-end developers, and recent Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown promising potential in this area. However, our investigation reveals that most existing MLLMs are constrained by the absence of high-quality, large-scale, real-world datasets, resulting in inadequate performance in automated webpage code generation. To fill this gap, this paper introduces WebCode2M, a new dataset comprising 2.56 million instances, each containing a design image along with the corresponding webpage code and layout details. Sourced from real-world web resources, WebCode2M offers a rich and valuable dataset for webpage code generation across a variety of applications. The dataset quality is ensured by a scoring model that filters out instances with aesthetic deficiencies or other incomplete elements. To validate the effectiveness of WebCode2M, we introduce a baseline model based on the Vision Transformer (ViT), named WebCoder, and establish a benchmark for fair comparison. Additionally, we introduce a new metric, TreeBLEU, to measure the structural hierarchy recall. The benchmarking results demonstrate that our dataset significantly improves the ability of MLLMs to generate code from webpage designs, confirming its effectiveness and usability for future applications in front-end design tools. This article aims to enhance the monitoring accuracy of high concurrent network services. As modern network services grow rapidly in data centers, tail latency has become one of the most crucial deciding factors on user experience. Latency measurement and anomaly detection are essential in evaluating service performance. Existing monitoring tools can be divided into two categories according to estimation methods. First, approaches based on sample traffic sample network packets to unburden the measurement. Second, approaches based on full traffic like wrk, analyze all of the packets from the kernel network stack and load the client-side overhead into response delay. Therefore, we propose a high-performance monitor system named HCMonitor, which computes the server-side response latency and the round-trip time of per-request. It can afford full traffic monitoring on the basis of userspace, "zero copy" and pipeline. By switch mirroring, the measured latency eliminates the kernel network stack overhead and the queuing delay of the client-side. Such measurement results in improved accuracy, online analysis, anomaly detection, real-time display and transparent to network services. Our evaluations show HCMonitor obtains a higher throughput compared with tcpdump by over 200 times. Compared with wrk, the tail latency accuracy shows an increase by up to 72%–76% in high concurrent networks. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

The memristive computing-in-Memory (CIM) sys-tem can efficiently accelerate matrix-vector multiplication (MVM) operations through in-situ computing. The data layout has a significant impact on the communication performance of CIM systems. Existing software-level communication opti-mizations aim to reduce communication distance by carefully designing static data layouts, while wear-leveling (WL) and error mitigation methods use dynamic scheduling to enhance system reliability, resulting in randomized data layouts and increased communication overhead. Besides, existing CIM compilers di-rectly map data to physical crossbars and generate instructions, which causes inconvenience for dynamic scheduling. To address these challenges of balancing communication performance and reliability while coordinating existing CIM compilers and dy-namic scheduling, we propose a disorder-resistant computation translation layer (DRCTL), which improves system lifetime and communication performance through co-optimization of data layout and dynamic scheduling. It consists of three parts: (1) We propose an address conversion method for dynamic scheduling, which updates the addresses in the instruction stream after dynamic scheduling, thereby avoiding recompilation. (2) Dynamic scheduling strategy for reliability improvement. We propose a hierarchical wear-leveling (HWL) strategy, which reduces communication by increasing scheduling granularity. (3) Communication optimization for dynamic scheduling. We propose data layout-aware selective remapping (LASR), which helps dynamic scheduling methods improve communication lo-cality and reduce latency by exploiting data dependencies. The experiments demonstrate that HWL extends lifetime by 100.3-205.9 x compared to not using WL. Even with a slight lifetime decrease compared to the state-of-the-art WL (TIWL), it still supports continuous neural network training for 7 years. How to get the potential interaction intent is the key to design a personalized intelligent kitchen assistance system based on Human Robot Interaction (HRI), which can facilitate the elder people in their daily life. Eye movement includes abundant user intent information, eye tracking technology can be used to obtain and analyze this information, thus identifying user's potential intent. This paper proposed an eye tracking based object recognition method, which could recognize objects that the user was watching. Firstly, multiple fixation points were clustered into a fixation point that best represented the user's intent by research on the study of the clustering algorithm. Then the object recognition algorithm based on PP-ShiTu platform was used to obtain the specific location of the object in the scene image. Finally, this paper proposed a fixation based object recognition module, and used the module to design and implement a personalized intelligent kitchen assistance system, and verified the effectiveness through experiments. The experimental results showed that when there was only single food recognition, the average recognition accuracy of the personalized intelligent kitchen assistance system reached over 80%, and the average time delay of the system was about 1400 ms. © 2023 The authors and IOS Press.
