Impulsive Control of Nonlinear Multi-Agent systems: A Hybrid Fuzzy Adaptive and Event-Triggered Strategy

This paper presents a hybrid control approach that integrates an adaptive fuzzy mechanism with an event-triggered impulse strategy to address consensus control challenges in nonlinear Multi-Agent systems (MASs) with uncertain information, both in leader and leaderless scenarios. Firstly, a fuzzy logic-based adaptive control mechanism is proposed to handle system nonlinearity and uncertainty. This mechanism dynamically adjusts fuzzy control rules in real time, enabling the system to adapt to changing conditions and enhancing its robustness against nonlinear disturbances. Secondly, to alleviate communication overhead and reduce control frequency, an event-triggered impulse strategy is implemented. This strategy activates impulse control only under specific conditions, effectively minimizing control actions while maintaining system consensus. Using Lyapunov stability theory, sufficient conditions for achieving system consensus are established, demonstrating the global consensus and robustness of the MASs under certain criteria. Finally, numerical simulations and experimental evaluations validate the proposed method's effectiveness and its practical advantages. © 2025 IEEE.

Code search can recommend relevant source code according to the development intention (query statement) of the demander, thereby improving the efficiency of software development. In the research of deep code search model, code description is used to replace query sentences for training. However, the heterogeneity existing between the query statement and the code description will seriously affect the accuracy of the code search model. In order to make up for the shortcomings of code search, this paper proposes a sentence-integrated query expansion method—SIQE. Unlike previous query expansion methods that focus on word-level expansion, SIQE uses the entire code description fragment as the source of query expansion. And by learning the mapping relationship between the query statement and the code description, the heterogeneity problem between them is compensated. In order to verify the effect of the proposed model in code search tasks, the article conducts code search experiments and analyzes on two languages: python and java. Experimental results show that, compared with the baseline model, SIQE has higher code search results. Therefore, the SIQE model can effectively improve the search effect of query statements, improve the accuracy of code search, and further improve the development of software engineering. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Container based microservices have been widely applied to promote the cloud elasticity. The mainstream Docker containers are structured in layers, which are organized in stack with bottom-up dependency. To start a microservice, the required layers are pulled from a remote registry and stored on its host server, following the layer dependency order. This incurs long microservice startup time and hinders the performance efficiency. In this paper, we discover that, for the first time, the layer pulling order can be adjusted to accelerate the microservice startup. Specifically, we address the problem on microservice layer pulling orchestration for startup time minimization and prove it as NP-hard. We propose a Longest-chain based Out-of-order layer Pulling Orchestration (LOPO) strategy with low computational complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive real-world trace driven experiments, we verify the efficiency of our LOPO and demonstrate that it reduces the microservice startup time by 22.71% on average in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions. © 2023 IEEE.

Training machine learning (ML) models on mobile and Web-of-Things (WoT) has been widely acknowledged and employed as a promising solution to privacy-preserving ML. However, these end-devices often suffer from constrained resources and fail to accommodate increasingly large ML models that crave great computation power. Offloading ML models partially to the cloud for training strikes a trade-off between privacy preservation and resource requirements. However, device-cloud training creates communication overheads that delay model training tremendously. This paper presents EdgeMove, the first device-edge training scheme that enables fast pipelined model training across edge devices and edge servers. It employs probing-based mechanisms to tackle the new challenges raised by device-edge training. Before training begins, it probes nearby edge servers' training performance and bootstraps model training by constructing a training pipeline with an approximate model partitioning. During the training process, EdgeMove accommodates user mobility and system dynamics by probing nearby edge servers' training performance adaptively and adapting the training pipeline proactively. Extensive experiments are conducted with two popular DNN models trained on four datasets for three ML tasks. The results demonstrate that EdgeMove achieves a 1.3 × -2.1 × speedup over the state-of-the-art scheme. © 2023 ACM.

Data-driven machine learning(ML) is widely employed in the analysis of materials structure-activity relationships,performance optimization and materials design due to its superior ability to reveal latent data patterns and make accurate ***,because of the laborious process of materials data acquisition,ML models encounter the issue of the mismatch between a high dimension of feature space and a small sample size(for traditional ML models) or the mismatch between model parameters and sample size(for deep-learning models),usually resulting in terrible ***,we review the efforts for tackling this issue via feature reduction,sample augmentation and specific ML approaches,and show that the balance between the number of samples and features or model parameters should attract great attention during data quantity *** this,we propose a synergistic data quantity governance flow with the incorporation of materials domain *** summarizing the approaches to incorporating materials domain knowledge into the process of ML,we provide examples of incorporating domain knowledge into governance schemes to demonstrate the advantages of the approach and *** work paves the way for obtaining the required high-quality data to accelerate materials design and discovery based on ML.

3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Drug discovery is an expensive and risky process. To combat the challenges in drug discovery, an increasing number of researchers and pharmaceutical companies recognize the benefits of utilizing computational techniques. Evolutionary computation (EC) offers promise as most drug discovery problems are essentially complex optimization problems beyond conventional optimization algorithms. EC methods have been widely applied to solve these complex optimization problems especially in lead com-pound generation and molecular virtual evaluation, substantially speeding up the process of drug discovery and development. This article presents a comprehensive survey of EC-based drug discovery methods. Particularly, a new taxonomy of the methods is provided and the advantages and limitations of the methods are reviewed. In addition, the potential future directions of EC-based drug discovery are discussed and the publicly available resources including databases and computational tools are compiled for the convenience of researchers seeking to pursue this field. Federated learning (FL) has been widely acknowledged as a promising solution to training machine learning (ML) model training with privacy preservation. To reduce the traffic overheads incurred by FL systems, edge servers have been included between clients and the parameter server to aggregate clients' local models. Recent studies on this edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme have focused on ensuring or accelerating model convergence by coping with various factors, e.g., uncertain network conditions, unreliable clients, heterogeneous compute resources, etc. This paper presents our three new discoveries of the edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme: 1) it wastes significant time during its two-phase training rounds;2) it does not recognize or utilize model diversity when producing a global model;and 3) it is vulnerable to model poisoning attacks. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose FedEdge, a novel edge-assisted hierarchical FL scheme that accelerates model training with asynchronous local federated training and adaptive model aggregation. Extensive experiments are conducted on two widely-used public datasets. The results demonstrate that, compared with state-of-the-art FL schemes, FedEdge accelerates model convergence by 1.14 × -3.20 ×, and improves model accuracy by 2.14% - 6.63%. © 2023 ACM.

An Adaptive Heterogeneous Credit Card Fraud Detection Model Based on Deep Reinforcement Training Subset Selection

Heterogeneous fraud detection is an important means of credit card security assurance, which can utilize historical transaction records in a source and target domain to build an effective fraud detection model. Nevertheless, large feature distribution differences between source and target transaction instances and the complex intrinsic structure hidden behind transaction data make it difficult for existing credit card fraud detection (CCFD) models to capture and transfer the most informative feature representations and seriously hinder detection performance. In this work, we propose a novel adaptive heterogeneous CCFD model named adaptive heterogeneous credit card fraud detection model based on deep reinforcement training subset selection (RTAHC) based on deep reinforcement training subset selection, which mainly contains two components: selection distribution generator (SDG) and transaction fraud detector (TFD, including feature extractor with an attention mechanism and classifier). The SDG can generate the selection probability distribution vector via the reinforcement reward mechanism, and then transaction instances in the source domain relevant to the target domain are selected. The feature extractor with an attention mechanism can learn the abstract deep semantic feature representations of selected source transaction instances and the target domain. The joint training of SDG and TFD can provide more real-time and accurate transaction feature representations to reduce the distribution discrepancy between the two domains. We verify the detection performance of RTAHC across a large real-world credit card transaction dataset and four public datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that the RTAHC model can exhibit competitive CCFD performance.
