Preserving details and avoiding high computational costs are the two main challenges for the High-Resolution Salient Object Detection (HRSOD) task. In this paper, we propose a two-stage HRSOD model from the perspective of evolution and succession, including an evolution stage with Low-resolution Location Model (LrLM) and a succession stage with High-resolution Refinement Model (HrRM). The evolution stage achieves detail-preserving salient objects localization on the low-resolution image through the evolution mechanisms on supervision and feature; the succession stage utilizes the shallow high-resolution features to complement and enhance the features inherited from the first stage in a lightweight manner and generate the final high-resolution saliency prediction. Besides, a new metric named Boundary-Detail-aware Mean Absolute Error (MAEBD) is designed to evaluate the ability to detect details in high-resolution scenes. Extensive experiments on five datasets demonstrate that our network achieves superior performance at real-time speed (49 FPS) compared to state-of-the-art methods. This paper investigates the covert communication in a satellite-terrestrial system, including a satellite transmitter Alice, a terrestrial full-duplex receiver Bob and a terrestrial warden Willie. To help the covert transmission from Alice, the full-duplex Bob transmits the jamming signal to confuse Willie and also receives the signal from Alice simultaneously. To explore the fundamental covertness in such a system, we first provide theoretical modelings for satellite-terrestrial downlink, and the detection error probability of Willie. Based on these models, we then study the transmit power optimization for covert rate maximization. Finally, we present extensive numerical results to validate our theoretical analysis and to illustrate the impact of various system parameters on the maximum covert rate. © 2024 IEEE.

Ensuring safety through set invariance has proven to be a valuable method in various robotics and control applications. This paper introduces a comprehensive framework for the safe probabilistic invariance verification of both discrete- and continuous-time stochastic dynamical systems over an infinite time horizon. The objective is to ascertain the lower and upper bounds of liveness probabilities for a given safe set and set of initial states. The liveness probability signifies the likelihood of the system remaining within the safe set indefinitely, starting from a state in the initial set. To address this problem, we propose optimizations for verifying safe probabilistic invariance in discrete-time and continuous-time stochastic dynamical systems. These optimizations are constructed via either using the Doob’s nonnegative supermartingale inequality-based method or relaxing the equations described in [30,32], which can precisely characterize the probability of reaching a target set while avoiding unsafe states. Detecting heavy hitters that constitute the majority of network traffic is a critical task in network measurement. However, the highly skewed network traffic and the size-limited on-chip memory pose great challenges for heavy-hitter detection. The prior arts either use sketches to track all flows or maintain a fix-sized tracking list for recording elephant flows, resulting in limited detection precision or time-consuming tracking list exchanges. This paper presents HeavyTracker, an efficient algorithm that detects heavy hitters based on a count-with-threshold strategy. A two-dimensional tracker unit array is employed in our design to capture the heavy hitters, where each flow is randomly mapped to one unit in all rows. The tracker unit is designed to accept many flows and precisely report the largest two with frequencies that reach a predefined threshold. This design eliminates the frequent and time-consuming exchanges for maintaining the tracking list, allowing us to use a hash table to track the reported elephant flows. Experimental results based on real Internet traces show that HeavyTracker achieves a high $\mathbf{F}_{\beta}$-Score of threshold-t detection (0.97) and over 99% precision of top-k detection under a tight memory size. Besides, it reduces the frequency estimation error by 97.4% compared to the state-of-the-art.

Towards Event Extraction with Massive Types: LLM-based Collaborative Annotation and Partitioning Extraction

Developing a general-purpose extraction system that can extract events with massive types is a long-standing target in Event Extraction (EE). In doing so, the challenge comes from two aspects: 1) The absence of an efficient and effective annotation method. 2) The absence of a powerful extraction method can handle massive types. For the first challenge, we propose a collaborative annotation method based on Large Language Models (LLMs). Through collaboration among multiple LLMs, it first refines annotations of trigger words from distant supervision and then carries out argument annotation. Next, a voting phase consolidates the annotation preferences across different LLMs. Finally, we create the EEMT dataset, the largest EE dataset to date, featuring over 200,000 samples, 3,465 event types, and 6,297 role types. For the second challenge, we propose an LLM-based Partitioning EE method called LLM-PEE. To overcome the limited context length of LLMs, LLM-PEE first recalls candidate event types and then splits them into multiple partitions for LLMs to extract events. The results in the supervised setting show that LLM-PEE outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 5.4% in event detection and 6.1% in argument extraction. In the zero-shot setting, LLM-PEE achieves up to 12.9% improvement compared to mainstream LLMs, demonstrating its strong generalization capabilities. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Detecting Twitter Bots is crucial for maintaining the integrity of online discourse, safeguarding democratic processes, and preventing the spread of malicious propaganda. However, advanced Twitter Bots today often employ sophisticated feature manipulation and account farming techniques to blend seamlessly with genuine user interactions, posing significant challenges to existing detection models. In response to these challenges, this paper proposes a novel Twitter Bot Detection framework called BotSAI. This framework enhances the consistency of multimodal user features, accurately characterizing various modalities to distinguish between real users and bots. Specifically, the architecture integrates information from users, textual content, and heterogeneous network topologies, leveraging customized encoders to obtain comprehensive user feature representations. The heterogeneous network encoder efficiently aggregates information from neighboring nodes through oversampling techniques and local relationship transformers. Subsequently, a multi-channel representation mechanism maps user representations into invariant and specific subspaces, enhancing the feature vectors. Finally, a self-attention mechanism is introduced to integrate and refine the enhanced user representations, enabling efficient information interaction. Extensive experiments demonstrate that BotSAI outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on two major Twitter Bot Detection benchmarks, exhibiting superior performance. Additionally, systematic experiments reveal the impact of different social relationships on detection accuracy, providing novel insights for the identification of social bots. © 2024, CC BY.

Pixel-level segmentation of structural cracks across various scenarios remains a considerable challenge. Current methods encounter challenges in effectively modeling crack morphology and texture, facing challenges in balancing segmentation quality with low computational resource usage. To overcome these limitations, we propose a lightweight Structure-Aware Vision Mamba Network (SCSegamba), capable of generating high-quality pixel-level segmentation maps by leveraging both the morphological information and texture cues of crack pixels with minimal computational cost. Specifically, we developed a Structure-Aware Visual State Space module (SAVSS), which incorporates a lightweight Gated Bottleneck Convolution (GBC) and a Structure-Aware Scanning Strategy (SASS). The key insight of GBC lies in its effectiveness in modeling the morphological information of cracks, while the SASS enhances the perception of crack topology and texture by strengthening the continuity of semantic information between crack pixels. Experiments on crack benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods, achieving the highest performance with only 2.8M parameters. Thyroid nodules, which can manifest as solitary or multiple growths, are among the most prevalent diseases with a high incidence rate. When examining thyroid nodules, ultrasound is typically the first step. Ultrasound image segmentation of thyroid nodules can assist physicians in diagnosis. However, the following three factors limit the development of thyroid nodule segmentation: (1) most of the existing studies optimize the segmentation of single nodules, and the incidence of multiple nodules is higher, so the segmentation of multiple nodules is also very important; (2) the ultrasound image of thyroid nodules is difficult to segment because of its low resolution and fuzzy boundary; (3) Due to the small data set of thyroid nodule ultrasound, in such a small dataset, attention mechanisms may be prone to overfitting, resulting in poorer generalization performance. Therefore, the attention-based model may not be suitable for the segmentation of thyroid nodules. Hence, we propose Hybrid Convolutional U-Net (HCU-Net), a simple and strong fully convolutional neural network for the segmentation of single or multiple thyroid nodules. HCU-Net incorporates a large receptive field to ensure accurate and stable segmentation. Specifically, we design Hybrid Branch Block to enhance the network's feature extraction capability for single or multiple nodules in ultrasound images by integrating multi-scale features. Furthermore, we add Enhanced ConvNeXt Blocks to the U-Net's final layer, enabling the extraction of global contextual information for segmentation performance. The Experimental results show that our proposed method can effectively improve these issues on two publicly available datasets. In addition, compared to attention-based models, our network is simpler and more suitable for small datasets like ultrasound images.

To reasonably improve the missing attribute data and effectively integrate sample data and uncertain expert knowledge, this paper proposes a new fault diagnosis method based on a belief rule base (BRB). In the case of missing attribute data, the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method is used to complete the missing attribute data, and the fault diagnosis method of the multi-UAVs is constructed by using other complete attribute data as the input information of BRB. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experimental simulation. © 2023 IEEE.
