Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) is one of the mobile wireless networks that topology logic may change frequently. Variable topology logic characteristics lead to several low efficiency routing problems, and in which how to increase the routing efficiency in low node density is an important issue that must be solved. The mainstream DTN routing strategy is multi-copy based routing and in order to solve the problem of flooding scale, the routing strategy always makes the messages flooding scale change under specific conditions called Waveform Decreasing Multi-copy (WDM) routing strategy: the flooding scale could increase or decrease. In this paper, we propose an improved routing strategy named WDM routing strategy aimed to improve the routing efficiency under low node density in DTN environment. Using several special mechanisms, the improved WDM routing strategy can obtain good performance in the case of low node density: transfer new messages first, special message transfer list, and the way of flooding scale changed. The simulation results show the WDM routing significantly improve the performance than the two mainstream routing: the Spray and Wait routing and the MaxProp routing. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Cloud computing contains many enterprise applications that require from each user to perform authenticate at first step. Then, he will gain a permit from the service provider to access resources at second step. The issue breach remains facing a modern computing model. A more secure scheme is the two-factor authentication (2FA) that requires a second factor (such as finger print, token) with username/password. Nevertheless, the feasibility of 2FA is largely limited by high device cost, malicious attack and the deployment complexity. In this paper, we propose a scheme of 2FA in cloud computing systems that depends on One-Time Password (OTP), Asymmetric Scalar-product Preserving Encryption (ASPE) and RSA digital signature as two factors. Furthermore, it overcomes aforementioned issues and does not require extra devices such as token device, card reader in smart card and scanner in physiological biometrics. The proposed scheme distinguishes to resist practical attacks, high-security level, anonymous password, mutual authentication, identity management, the cloud server and a user can establish authenticated session keys, reduces the cost, and good performance. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.

Recently the flexibility of RDF data model makes increasing number of organizations and communities keep their data availab.e in the RDF format. There is a growing need for querying these data in scalab.e and efficient way. MapReduce is a parallel data processing solution for processing large data-intensive workloads, which is not supported directly for join-intensive workloads. In this paper, we present a schema based hybrid partitioning technique for RDF triples placement according to the relationships between them, and reduce the necessary number of MR cycles in each SAPRQL query job. Then we propose a lightweight sideways information passing techniques which pass the join information across MR jobs to decrease the intermediate results involved in join operations. The experimental results show that our approaches achieve a substantial performance improvement, and outperform the previous system by a factor of 2-20 using LUBM benchmark. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Web service technologies have been widely used in diverse applications. However, there are still many security challenges in reliability, confidentiality and data nonrepudiation, which are prominent especially in some Web service systems that have massive resources in diverse forms. An enhanced mechanism for secure accesses of Web resources is presented and implemented based on the combination of modules of identity authentication, authorized access, and secure transmission to improve the security level of these systems. In the identity authentication, the highly safe and recognized authentication method U-Key is used. For the aspect of authorized access, the integration of an improved Spring Security framework and J2EE architecture is applied to ensure authorized access to Web resources, while the security interceptor of Spring Security is extended and a series of security filters are added to keep web attacks away. Moreover, some improvements of the XML encryption and XML decryption algorithm are made to enhance the security and speed of data transmission, by means of mixing RSA and DES algorithm. The above security mechanism has been applied to an online virtual experiment platform based on Web services named VeePalms. The experimental results show that most security problems with high severity in the system have been solved and medium-low severe problems degreased dramatically. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Faced by soaring power cost, large footprint of carbon emission and unpredictable power outage, more and more modern Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) begin to mitigate these challenges by equipping their Datacenter Power Supply System (DPSS) with multiple sources: (1) smart grid with timevarying electricity prices, (2) uninterrupted power supply (UPS) of finite capacity, and (3) intermittent green or renewable energy. It remains a significant challenge how to operate among multiple power supply sources in a complementary manner, to deliver reliable energy to datacenter users over time, while minimizing a CSP's operational cost over the long run. This paper proposes an efficient, online control algorithm for DPSS, called MultiGreen. MultiGreen is based on an innovative two-timescale Lyapunov optimization technique. Without requiring a priori knowledge of system statistics, MultiGreen allows CSPs to make online decisions on purchasing grid energy at two time scales (in the long-term market and in the real-time market), leveraging renewable energy, and opportunistically charging and discharging UPS, in order to fully leverage the availab.e green energy and low electricity prices at times for minimum operational cost. Our detailed analysis and trace-driven simulations based on one-month real-world data have demonstrated the optimality (in terms of the tradeoff between minimization of DPSS operational cost and satisfaction of datacenter availab.lity) and stability (performance guarantee in cases of fluctuating energy demand and supply) of MultiGreen. © 2013 ACM.

Solid state disk, compared with hard drive disk, has low delay, low energy consumption, high throughput, high bandwidth, and many other advantages. But it is important that, we will meet challenges when using the solid state disk in virtualized environment, because of its own structure and characteristics. But the trim instruction, that plays an important role in space management of SSD, cannot be passed through in a virtualized environment to the underlying solid state disk. So, how to make the trim instruction be handled in virtualized environment will be an urgent problem. An optimized system used in virtualized environment, named Vtrim, is proposed to solve the problem. In the paper, Vtrim monitors the deletion operation in virtual machine and sends the deletion semantic to the Domain 0 immediately. Then the deletion semantic from virtual machine will be translated into the deletion operation in Domain 0. This deletion operation can punch hole on virtual machine disk image, then trigger the trim instruction. In this way, the performance of the SSD in virtualized environment will be improved greatly. Experiments prove that the random write performance will be improved more than 100% at most in the para-virtualization virtual machine with the Vtrim. The average response time will also be reduced to about 40% of the original one in the best case. © 2012 IEEE.

Serving as the infrastructure of cloud computing, virtualization technologies have attracted considerable interest in recent years for their excellent resource utility, scalab.lity, and high availab.lity. Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM), which is a key element in cloud computing, enables multiple guest operating systems running simultaneously to share the same physical resources. This may lead to significant interference of disk I/O performance among virtual machines (VM). Particularly, the I/O performance of none I/O intensive domains can be seriously injured by the advent of I/O intensive nodes. We address this problem by building a block-level cache in the virtualized layer to absorb I/O requests from different domains. This method not only effectively alleviates the I/O performance interference caused by I/O intensive domains, but also greatly improves the I/O performance of guest OS. We implement and evaluate a Flexible I/O Subsystem (FIOS) within Xen VMM and show an evident reduction of I/O performance interference among virtual machines as well as a remarkable improvement of disk throughput. © 2012 ACM.

Expressing synchronization in task parallelism remains a significant challenge because of the complicated relationships between tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel parallel programming model, namely function flow, where synchronization is easier to express. We release the burden of synchronizing by the virtue of parallel functions and functional wait. In function flow, parallel functions are defined to represent parallel tasks. Functional wait is designed to coordinate relationships of parallel functions at task-level. The main aspects of functional waits are boolean-expressions which are coupled with parallel functions' invocations. The functional wait mechanisms, based on parallel functions, provide powerful semantic supports and compiling time checking on relationships of parallel tasks. Our preliminary result of function flow shows that a wide range of realistic parallel programs can be easily expressed with performance coming close to well-tuned multi-threaded programs using barriers/sync. The overhead of task-level coordination is very low, not exceed 8%. © 2012 ACM.

Cloud-based software applications (Software as a Service - SaaS) for multi-tenant provisioning have become a major development paradigm in Web engineering. Instead of serving a single end-user, a multi-tenant SaaS provides multiple end-users with the same functionality but with potentially different quality-of-service (QoS) values. The service selection for such a SaaS is a complex decision-making process which involves a number of stakeholders with different QoS requirements. SaaS developers need to compose services with different QoS values to meet end-users' different multidimensional QoS constraints for the SaaS. Furthermore, they also need to satisfy SaaS providers' optimisation goals for the SaaS, such as least resource cost and best system performance. Existing QoS-aware service selection approaches are oriented at a single tenant. They do not consider the characteristics of multi-tenant SaaS and hence are ineffective and inefficient when applied to compose multi-tenant SaaS. In this paper, we introduce a novel QoS-driven approach for helping SaaS developers select the services for composing multi-tenant SaaS, which achieves SaaS providers' optimisation goals while fulfilling the end-users' different levels of QoS constraints. The proposed approach is evaluated using an example SaaS synthetically generated based on a dataset of real-world Web services. Experimental results show that our approach significantly outperforms existing approaches in terms of both effectiveness and performance. © 2012 IEEE.

Cloud computing claims to offer multiple advantages comparing to "traditional" computing infrastructures. These include among others: energy efficiency, reduction of the overall administration costs, better utilization of hardware resources by co-hosting multiple services environments, etc. This paper reports on the experience gained during the provision of an IaaS cloud service in the context of the Stratus-lab.project and provides quantitative economic analysis of the total cost of ownership of such infrastructure by calculating the infrastructure, maintenance and operational cost. The analysis continues with the cost comparison of the private cloud against the popular Amazon's EC2 public cloud service by utilizing the collected Stratuslab.usage traces for a period of one year. It is shown that with an average utilization of 70%, a small cluster of 20 machines could amortize its total cost in a period of 2-3 years while offering the same rates compared to Amazon cloud if it were offered on a pay-as-you go basis. © 2012 ACM.
