With the rapidly ageing population in most countries, the health and safety issues become the primary concern for elderly people because ageing is often associated with physical and cognitive impairments. In order to provide intelligent assistive health services for elders, in this paper, we propose an integrated OSGi-based service platform that can aggregate a variety of health assistive services, including health status monitoring, automated diagnosis and prognosis, and personalized health instruction by leveraging either stationary biosensors deployed in domestic settings or mobile sensing artifacts carried by elders. The assistive services in this integrated platform are able to help elders sustain and enhance health condition and quality of life with personalized health support. Our proposed platform is highly scalab.e and reusable by exploiting the component-based architecture of OSGI service framework, new services can be easily added into the platform according to individuals' needs and requirements. An implemented prototype system and the relevant performance evaluation are also presented. © 2012 IEEE.

Rate matching is an important component in 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) and has a strong impact on its error correcting performance. Rate matching is part of error correct coding, which can impact the performance of hybrid ARQ (HARQ). Circular buffer rate matching algorithm has many advantages over earlier rate matching algorithm. One of its advantages is simple and flexible for any arbitrary code rate in LTE with excellent performance. In this paper, an efficient method to implement high throughput processing is proposed. The method is to rearrange the data order in memory to improve throughput and latency. However, implementation of rate matching is not very straightforward with the modified method. With the aid of the proposed method, rate matching can be implemented in parallel processing with low latency for high date rate applications. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper describes the implementation and experimental results of a 250 MS/s 8-bit pipelined analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a 0.13-μm CMOS process. The ADC uses a dedicated sample-and-hold amplifier (SHA) to achieve excellent linearity performances with high SFDR and very flat SNDR. Stage scaling in the pipeline chain is adopted to lower the power consumption. The ADC measures a SFDR of over 60 dB and 7.45 ENOB at 250 Ms/s with an input frequency of 19 MHz. SNDR only drops 1.7dB with input frequency increasing from dc to over 70MHz. Including all analog and digital blocks, the total power dissipation of the ADC is 60mW from a 1.2V power supply. The active area is 800 μmx700 μm. © 2011 IEEE.

In 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) system, cell search is a very important process for the user equipment (UE) to connect with base station (BS) when the UE power on. As Primary Synchronization Signal (PSS) detection is the first step of cell search, PSS is critical for cell search. The performance of the PSS detection needs to be good enough, and area is also an major factor for the cost of the UE application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chip. So an area-efficient scheme to implement PSS detection is proposed. This paper discusses the relationships between the algorithm and the implementation architecture of PSS detection. We present a low-complexity and small-sized scheme with high performance to implement the PSS detection. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents an improved DC-offset cancellation (DCOC) circuit for programmable-gain amplifier (PGA) in power line communication. It is a speed-enhanced and low-noisy method by using current-mode feedback. The output DC-offset can be reduced from several hundred millivolts to less than 5mV over 64 dB gain range. Furthermore, this proposed technique does not bring in excessive design complexity or large chip area by reusing master-slave configuration that already existed in the system. The circuit is designed in 0.18μm CMOS technology. ©2010 IEEE.

In this paper, the problems of radio resource allocation for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems are addressed. The main goal of this paper is to present and analyze base station allocation of subcarriers and adaptive modulation. We impose a set of proportional fairness constraints to assure that each user can achieve a required data rate. Since the optimal solution to the fairness problem is extremely computationally complex to obtain, we propose an adaptive radio resource allocation method based on differential evolutionary algorithm for multiuser OFDMA system. The performance of the described schemes is further evaluated in numerical experiments. We improve the convergence of the differential evolutionary algorithm through the method of elitist selection and adding some individuals with 'good' genes to the initial population. Simulation results show that out proposed algorithm better than static subcarrier allocation schemes TDMA in multiuser OFDMA system. © 2008 IEEE.

This paper presents the low-power implementation of a 10-bit 150-MS/s pipelined analog-to-digital converter (ADC) in a standard 65 nm digital CMOS. The ADC removes the track-and-hold amplifier (THA) to reduce the power consumption. A 1.5 bit/stage architecture is used in the first stage to lower front-end design complexity. Three 2.5-bit stages are followed to reduce the stage number in the pipeline chain. Operational amplifiers (op-amps) sharing technique is used between consecutive stages for further power saving. A high swing continuous-time common mode feedback (CMFB) circuit is adopted in the op-amp design. Simulation results shows the proposed ADC achieves 9.8 ENOB with a 23 MHz input. The power consumption is 22 mW from a 1.2 V supply voltage. The active area is 640 μm × 470 μm. ©2010 IEEE.

Frame detection of primary synchronization signal for multi-antenna receiver

In this paper, we consider the problem of frame detection by using multiple antennas over wireless fading channels. We introduce frame detection with different combining schemes including space diversity. Firstly, probability of miss detection curves comparing the performance of frame detection with selection combining (SC) scheme, equal gain combining (EGC) scheme and maximum ratio combining (MRC) scheme are presented. We also investigate the performance when frame detection adopts down-sampling. Our simulation results explicitly show that the performance of the frame detection with MRC scheme and down-sampling does not degrade apparently. We also find that the number of receive antennas is exponentially increased with the performance improvement. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.

This paper proposes an efficient downlink scheduling algorithm for IEEE 802.16m system. It is focus on presenting and analyzing base station allocation of subcarriers and adaptive modulation. Proposed scheduling algorithm is based on particle swarm optimization algorithm. We improved the convergence and searching ability of the particle swarm algorithm through the method of niche technology and dynamic inertia weight. The numerical results showed that our proposed algorithm is better than static schemes FDMA in IEEE 802.16m system. © 2008 IEEE.

A continuous-time low pass filter (LPF) for high bandwidth application is presented in this paper. The LPF is realized with 6th order Chebyshev structure. Large dynamic range is achieved by adopting linearity enhanced technique. A 6-bit controlled switched-capacitor array is realized to get wide programmable cut-off frequency. The measurement results indicate that the -3 dB cut-off frequency can be tuned from 35 MHz to over 100 MHz. The two-tone test shows that the in-band IM3 can achieve -48 dB with 500 mVp-p input swing. This proposed filter is fabricated in TSMC 0.13 μm CMOS technology. It consumes 25 mA current with 3V power supply and occupies 0.5 mm2 area. ©2009 IEEE.
