Crowd counting has important applications in public safety and pandemic control.A robust and practical crowd counting system has to be capable of continuously learning with the newly incoming domain data in real-world scenarios instead of fitting one domain ***-the-shelf methods have some drawbacks when handling multiple domains:(1)the models will achieve limited performance(even drop dramatically)among old domains after training images from new domains due to the discrepancies in intrinsic data distributions from various domains,which is called catastrophic forgetting;(2)the well-trained model in a specific domain achieves imperfect performance among other unseen domains because of domain shift;(3)it leads to linearly increasing storage overhead,either mixing all the data for training or simply training dozens of separate models for different domains when new ones are *** overcome these issues,we investigate a new crowd counting task in incremental domain training setting called lifelong crowd *** goal is to alleviate catastrophic forgetting and improve the generalization ability using a single model updated by the incremental ***,we propose a self-distillation learning framework as a benchmark(forget less,count better,or FLCB)for lifelong crowd counting,which helps the model leverage previous meaningful knowledge in a sustainable manner for better crowd counting to mitigate the forgetting when new data arrive.A new quantitative metric,normalized Backward Transfer(nBwT),is developed to evaluate the forgetting degree of the model in the lifelong learning *** experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed benchmark in achieving a low catastrophic forgetting degree and strong generalization ability.

The increase in the number of the elderly and the disabled in China has brought a huge pressure to daily nursing work. Standing assistance for the elderly and the disabled is an important part of daily nursing work. Robots are used to assist nursing staff in completing this work, which reduces the work pressure of nursing staff. This article focuses on the research of a transfer robot system used to assist the elderly and the disabled to stand and transfer. Since the predefined standing assist trajectory need to collect the user's standing motion, this paper proposes a standing assist trajectory generation method based on the direct collocation method, which can generate the standing assist trajectory according to the user's height, weight and body state. © 2022 IEEE.

In the industrial domain, surface defect detection after multiple processing steps is crucial for improving the outgoing quality of products. However, due to the characteristics of surface defects, such as low contrast, irregular shapes, small and elongated features, and significant noise. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel real-time high-resolution network(RHNet). Unlike previous models, RHNet emphasizes the importance of modeling spatial information to capture small ***, the output feature maps of each module are maintained at 1/4 resolution of the original image. We introduce a short-term dual-branch module(SDBM) to handle real-time processing of high-resolution feature maps. Additionally, FPAPPM is proposed for swift extraction of deep information and multi-scale context. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that our proposed model exhibits robust defect modeling capabilities and detection performance while still meeting real-time requirements.

Echo state network based symbol detection in chaotic baseband wireless communication

In some Internet of Things (IoT) applications, multipath propagation is a main constraint of communication channel. Recently, the chaotic baseband wireless communication system (CBWCS) is promising to eliminate the inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by multipath propagation. However, the current technique is only capable of removing the partial effect of ISI, due to only past decoded bits are available for the suboptimal decoding threshold calculation. However, the future transmitting bits also contribute to the threshold. The unavailable future information bits needed by the optimal decoding threshold are an obstacle to further improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. Different from the previous method using echo state network (ESN) to predict one future information bit, the proposed method in this paper predicts the optimal threshold directly using ESN. The proposed ESN-based threshold prediction method simplifies the symbol decoding operation by removing the threshold calculation from the transmitting symbols and channel information, which achieves better BER performance as compared to the previous method. The reason for this superior result lies in two folds, first, the proposed ESN is capable of using more future symbols information conveyed by the ESN input to get more accurate threshold;second, the proposed method here does not need to estimate the channel information using Least Square method, which avoids the extra error caused by inaccurate channel information estimation. By this way, the calculation complexity is decreased as compared to the previous method. Simulation results and experiment based on a wireless open-access research platform under a practical wireless channel, show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method. In order to improve the prediction accuracy of the carbon brush temperature trend of the generator, analyzing the operating state of the generator more accurately, and reduce other accidents like the unplanned outage caused by carbon brush failure of the generator in the power plant. A multi-step temperature prediction model based on the LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) neural network is proposed. The data comes from real operating carbon brush temperature of Weihai Power Plant in ten days. Then the temperature prediction model is established to achieve an accurate prediction of the carbon brush temperature in the future day. The prediction error is stable within 0.4 °C. By comparing the predicted results of the BP model and Elman model, the error between the predicted results of each model and the actual temperature data is analyzed. By comparing the indicators and analyzing the actual curves, the results show that LSTM neural network has higher accuracy in predicting the temperature of generator carbon brush. This method is of reference significance for the accurate analysis of the operation state of the generator and the load analysis of the excitation system. © 2021 IEEE

Blind source separation under an underdetermined reverberation environment is a very challenging issue. The classical method is based on the expectation maximization algorithm. However, it is limited to high reverberation environments, resulting in bad or even invalid separation performance. To eliminate this restriction, a room impulse response reshaping-based expectation maximization method is designed to solve the problem of blind signal separation in an underdetermined reverberant environment. Firstly, a room impulse response reshaping technology is designed to eliminate the influence of audible echo on the reverberant environment, improving the quality of the received signals. Then, a new mathematical model of time-frequency mixing signals is established to reduce the approximation error of model transformation caused by high reverberation. Furthermore, an improved expectation maximization method is proposed for real-time update learning rules of model parameters, and then the sources are separated using the estimators provided by the improved expectation maximization method. Experimental results based on source separation of speech and music mixtures demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves better separation performance while maintaining much better robustness than popular expectation maximization methods. © 2024, The Authors. A Chaotic Pseudo Orthogonal Carriers Multi-Access (CPOCMA) communication based on Chaotic Pseudo Orthogonal Shape-forming Filter (CPOSF) bank, Chaotic Pseudo Orthogonal Matched Filter (CPOMF) bank and Chaotic Pseudo Orthogonal Correlation Filter (CPOCF) bank is proposed in this work. At the transmitter, the multiple CPOSFs are used to generate pseudo orthogonal signals. It provides a good trade-off between spectrum efficiency and high bit transmission rate. At the receiver, the CPOMF bank and CPOCF bank are used to maximize the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and extract the received information from each sub-channel, respectively. The received signal is demodulated by averaging the sampled sequence from the matched filter bank output and sorting the sampling sequence from the CPOCF bank output to recover the transmitted information bits. The proposed CPOCMA communication system not only offers multiuser access with high reliability and high data transmission rate, but also achieves higher spectrum efficiency. Analytical Bit Error Rate (BER) expression is derived. The proposed communication system performance has been evaluated in Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel and wireless channel by both numerical simulations and experiments based on a Wireless open-Access Research Platform (WARP), the results show the effectiveness and the superiority of the proposed method. In recent years, deep learning has been successfully applied in object detection of remote sensing images, due to its powerful feature extraction and representation capabilities. However, it usually ignores the relationships among different objects, which greatly hinders the further improvement of the detection precision. In this paper, a novel object relationship graph reasoning deep learning method is proposed for object detection of remote sensing images. The reasoning is carried out on a graph constructed by region proposals. It mainly contains three modules for relationship generation in consideration of different factors that related to object detection: 1) Location-based relationship generation module (LRGM) aims to find spatial relationships among objects according to their positions;2) Feature-based relationship generation module (FRGM) focuses on mining semantic relationships among objects according to their appearances that implied in feature maps and 3) Class-dependent relationship generation module (CRGM) introduces class dependencies into the relationship generation process. Class dependencies are the prior knowledge that is obtained by computing class co-occurrence. The experimental results on a public twenty-class remote sensing object detection dataset have shown that the proposed method has better detection performance compared to other object detection deep networks with no considering object relationships. © 2021 IEEE.

In the field of telemetry, track, and command system, this study presents a phased array antenna control system for achieving multi-target tracking tasks through a set of systems. Firstly, electric beam scanning of a planar array phased array antenna is used in this paper to implement multi-target tracking. In addition, the phased array antenna is mounted on the antenna pedestal, which can operate on the azimuth and elevation mechanical axes. Thirdly, the mechanical scanning method of the azimuth-elevation antenna pedestal and the beam scanning method of the phased array antenna are combined to realize multi-target tracking tasks. Finally, the experiments of flight tracking are completed by employing the technique of UAV tagging, and the results validate the viability of the system.

This article addresses an adaptive tracking control problem for uncertain high-order fully actuated (HOFA) systems with unknown parameters and disturbances. Under the framework of backstepping, the unknown parameter is estimated and the external disturbance is handled by using adaptive control and H ∞ technique, respectively. Moreover, the Levant differentiator is employed to reduce the computation burden. Additionally, the boundedness of signals in the closed-loop system is proven using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is validated through the simulation study.
