Immune particle swarm optimization of linear frequency modulation in acoustic communication

With the exploration of the ocean, underwater acoustic communication has attracted more and more attention in recent years. The underwater acoustic channel is considered to be one of the most complicated channels because it suffers from more serious multipath effect, fewer available bandwidths and quite complex noise. Since the signals experience a serious distortion after being transmitted through the underwater acoustic channel, the underwater acoustic communication experiences a high bit error rate （BER）. To solve this problem, carrier waveform inter- displacement （CWlD） modulation is proposed. It has been proved that CWlD modulation is an effective method to decrease BER. The linear frequency modulation （LFM） carrier-waves are used in CWlD modulation. The performance of the communication using CWID modulation is sensitive to the change of the frequency band of LFM carrier-waves. The immune particle swarm optimization （IPSO） is introduced to search for the optimal frequency band of the LFM carrier-waves, due to its excellent performance in solving complicated optimization problems. The multi-objective and multi- peak optimization nature of the IPSO gives a suitable description of the relationship between the upper band and the lower band of the LFM carrier-waves. Simulations verify the improved perfor- mance and effectiveness of the optimization method.

Edge-Assisted Flexible Platooning of Connected and Automated Vehicles Under Traffic Anomaly

The platooning of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) has the great potential to significantly improve travel experience in terms of safety, comfortableness, and energy efficiency. However, constrained by sensing range and prediction accuracy, the performance of CAV platoon can not be guaranteed in the scenario of mixed traffic consisting of CAVs and human-driven vehicles (HDVs). This is not only due to the uncertainty of HDVs but also related to the occurrence of various traffic anomalies, such as emergency braking and accidents. In this paper, we aim to investigate an efficient control strategy to guarantee the operation of the platoon in mixed traffic, especially in the case of traffic anomalies. To tackle the problem, an edge-assisted platoon control strategy, called E-CACC, is proposed. First, an error-aware flexible tracking policy is designed to adapt to HDV uncertainties and speed prediction errors. Based on the tracking policy, a zone model predictive control (ZMPC) method is then designed to guarantee travel safety and avoid undesired acceleration. Further, a coordination strategy of CAV platoon and roadside unit (RSU) is proposed to prevent the platoon from potential collision in the case of traffic anomalies, where an event-based communication trigger is designed to determine whether and when the platoon establishes communication links with RSU to acquire exogenous sensing data of anomaly segment. Finally, the evaluation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in improving travel safety and comfortableness. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Research and application of Gaussian coupled control bistable stochastic resonance system with independent parameter regulation

The theory of Stochastic Resonance (SR) has drawn significant attention due to its exceptional ability to detect faint signals. Despite this, research to date indicates that for SR systems, whether they are monostable, bistable, or multi-stable, modifications to the system parameters lead to concurrent alterations in the depth and breadth of the potential wells when analyzing engineering signals, which results in suboptimal detection outcomes. To address these issues, a two-dimensional Gaussian bistable coupled SR (GBCSR) system has been proposed that can individually adjust the potential well characteristics. This innovative system facilitates the separate adjustment of shape characteristics of potential, allowing for more precise manipulation of the system’s dynamic response. The system’s non-linear dynamic traits are explicated through an analysis of the steady-state probability density (SPD) function and the mean first passage time (MFPT), substantiating the effectiveness of the new model. In practical scenarios, a variety of bearing defect signals serve as the objects of detection. The structural parameters of the GBCSR system are co-optimized using the Brain Storm Optimization (BSO) algorithm. This optimization approach leverages the algorithm’s ability to enhance population diversity and improve convergence accuracy, thereby optimizing the system’s performance. The experimental outcome results show that the proposed system can accurately detect the frequency of bearing fault signals. When compared with traditional SR systems such as the traditional bistable stochastic SR (TBSR), the traditional Gaussian SR system (TGSR), and the cascade stochastic resonance system, the proposed coupled system demonstrates superior performance. This is achieved through the transfer of energy or information between subsystems, which enables more efficient utilization of noise energy. ColorDynamic: Generalizable, Scalable, Real-time, End-to-end Local Planner for Unstructured and Dynamic Environments

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) has demonstrated potential in addressing robotic local planning problems, yet its efficacy remains constrained in highly unstructured and dynamic environments. To address these challenges, this study proposes the ColorDynamic framework. First, an end-to-end DRL formulation is established, which maps raw sensor data directly to control commands, thereby ensuring compatibility with unstructured environments. Under this formulation, a novel network, Transqer, is introduced. The Transqer enables online DRL learning from temporal transitions, substantially enhancing decision-making in dynamic scenarios. To facilitate scalable training of Transqer with diverse data, an efficient simulation platform E-Sparrow, along with a data augmentation technique leveraging symmetric invariance, are developed. Comparative evaluations against state-of-the-art methods, alongside assessments of generalizability, scalability, and real-time performance, were conducted to validate the effectiveness of ColorDynamic. Results indicate that our approach achieves a success rate exceeding 90% while exhibiting real-time capacity (1.2–1.3 ms per planning). Additionally, ablation studies were performed to corroborate the contributions of individual components. Building on this, the OkayPlan-ColorDynamic (OPCD) navigation system is presented, with simulated and real-world experiments demonstrating its superiority and applicability in complex scenarios. sEMG (surface electromyography) signal control of bionic prostheses has been widely studied over the past few years. In particular, sparse sEMG signals are rapidly developing in the field of gesture recognition for their convenience, noninvasiveness, and ease of access. However, compared with high-density EMG signals, sparse EMG signals lack rich feature information, which in turn affects gesture recognition accuracy. In order to reduce the loss of feature information of sparse EMG signals in the spatio-temporal dimension, this paper proposes a hybrid neural network Res-LSTM combining residual network and long short-term memory network. The ordinary convolutional blocks in the CNN network are replaced with residual blocks, and the final fully connected layer is removed and a constant mapping layer is added to adequate extraction of spatial feature information of the data. The Res layer’s output is utilized as the input for the long and short-term memory (LSTM) network, which further extracts the features of the data in the temporal dimension, and finally completes the categorization output through a fully connected layer. The average accuracy of 91.11% for gesture-motion classification was verified by training on a homebrew dataset;and tested on a public dataset, NinaPro DB1, with an average accuracy of 91.03%. The experimental findings indicate that the proposed Res-LSTM network framework contributes to solving the problem of lack of feature information of sparse sEMG signals and improves the pattern recognition accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Secure Consensus of Multi-agent systems via Fully Distributed Dynamic Edge-based Event Triggered Under Denial-of-service Attacks

This paper addresses the issue of ensuring secure consensus in linear multi-agent systems under Denial-of-Service attacks. At the outset, to address the issue of partially observable agent states, a state observer is engineered to offer state estimations for the agents. Using the capabilities of this observer, a novel fully distributed dynamic adaptive edge-based event triggered control mechanism is introduced, and a timing variable is utilized to ensure that the inter-event intervals for all communication links in the network are strictly positive, thereby excluding Zeno behavior. Following that, by leveraging the piecewise Lyapunov function approach, the necessary conditions are meticulously crafted to ensure that the system reaches a secure consensus, thereby establishing a quantitative link between control gains, the duration of attacks, and their frequencies. Ultimately, the effectiveness of the developed event-triggered control strategy is validated through a simulation example.

Incipient fault diagnosis method for silicon single crystal growth assisted by deep learning

In this study, an accurate diagnostic classification algorithm based on a deep belief network and entropy value (C-DBN-E) incorporating signal decomposition, entropy theory and deep belief network (DBN) network is proposed to address the problem of tiny faults that may occur during the growth of silicon single crystals (SSC). The study is divided into three stages: feature selection, fault feature extraction and fault pattern classification. In the feature selection stage, the recursive feature elimination (RFE) method based on support vector machine (SVM) is employed to rank features according to their importance and eliminate redundant features. In the subsequent feature extraction stage, the adaptive decomposition theory is introduced to select components that contain a greater number of fault features for signal reconstruction. The deep features of the reconstructed signal are then mined in depth using a DBN and supplemented with energy entropy and multi-scale arrangement entropy as supplementary features to further refine the capture of tiny fault information. Finally, all the features are integrated and inputted into the SVM classifier to enable accurate classification of micro-fault modes in SSC growth. The effectiveness of the method in distinguishing micro-faults in the SSC growth process is verified by simulation results. This study is of great significance in solving the problem of fault diagnosis in the SSC growth system, which is expected to contribute to the improvement of work performance and the reduction of accident risk and economic loss. © 2025 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Unleashing Correlation and Continuity for Hyperspectral Reconstruction from RGB Images

Reconstructing Hyperspectral Images (HSI) from RGB images can yield high spatial resolution HSI at a lower cost, demonstrating significant application potential. This paper reveals that local correlation and global continuity of the spectral characteristics are crucial for HSI reconstruction tasks. Therefore, we fully explore these inter-spectral relationships and propose a Correlation and Continuity Network (CCNet) for HSI reconstruction from RGB images. For the correlation of local spectrum, we introduce the Group-wise Spectral Correlation Modeling (GrSCM) module, which efficiently establishes spectral band similarity within a localized range. For the continuity of global spectrum, we design the Neighborhood-wise Spectral Continuity Modeling (NeSCM) module, which employs memory units to recursively model the progressive variation characteristics at the global level. In order to explore the inherent complementarity of these two modules, we design the Patch-wise Adaptive Fusion (PAF) module to efficiently integrate global continuity features into the spectral features in a patch-wise adaptive manner. These innovations enhance the quality of reconstructed HSI. We perform comprehensive comparison and ablation experiments on the mainstream datasets NTIRE2022 and NTIRE2020 for the spectral reconstruction task. Compared to the current advanced spectral reconstruction algorithms, our designed algorithm achieves State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) performance. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Echo state network based symbol detection in chaotic baseband wireless communication

The Chaotic Baseband Wireless Communication system(CBWCS)is expected to eliminate the Inter-Symbol Interference(ISI)caused by multipath propagation by using the optimal decoding threshold that is the sum of the ISI caused by past decoded bits and the ISI caused by future transmitting ***,the current technique is only capable of removing partial effects of the ISI,because only past decoded bits are available for the suboptimal decoding threshold *** unavailability of the future information needed for the optimal decoding threshold is an obstacle to further improve the Bit Error Rate(BER)*** contrast to the previous method using Echo State Network(ESN)to predict one future bit,the proposed method in this paper predicts the optimal decoding threshold directly using *** proposed ESN-based threshold prediction method simplifies the symbol decoding operation by avoiding the iterative prediction of the output waveform points using ESN and accumulated error caused by the iterative *** this approach,the calculation complexity is reduced compared to the previous ESN-based *** proposed method achieves better BER performance compared to the previous *** reason for this superior result is ***,the proposed ESN is capable of using more future symbols information conveyed by the ESN input to obtain more accurate threshold rather than the previous method in which only one future symbol was ***,the proposed method here does not need to estimate the channel information using Least Squared(LS)method,which avoids the extra error caused by inaccurate channel information *** results and experiment based on a wireless open-access research platform under a practical wireless channel show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.
