MDC-based robust stereo video coding using ICP

In this paper, a robust stereo video coding based on multiple description coding (MDC) scheme is presented. In this scheme, the stereo video is divided into two descriptions, the odd frames of stereo video sequences are one description, and the even frames of stereo video sequences belong to another description. If there is an error of transmission or reconstruction for one description, the stereo video still can be reconstructed by the other description. Moreover, the interpolating compensation preprocessing (ICP) is firstly proposed to improve the coding efficiency. Plenty of experiments demonstrate that the proposed ICP is very effective. © 2015 ISSN.

Currently, energy cost has become an important burden of infrastructure providers in network virtual environment. Therefore, consolidating nodes and links to save energy is an effective method when virtual networks are embedded on substrate network. The traditional embedding method usually considers cost minimization or revenue maximization as its goal. This paper studies the problem of energy consumption, cost and revenue simultaneously and a virtual network embedding model saving energy is proposed. Then, a heuristic algorithm base on group search optimizer is developed. The simulation experiments show that the proposal can effectively reduce energy consumption when a large quantity of virtual networks arrives.

At present, a larger number of researchers analyzed Micro-blog orientation and they concentrated their energy on emotional words, adverb and negative words without considering the impact of other emotional factors, such as the coordinative relation, progressive relation and adversative relation. So a method studying the sentiment polarity of associated words was proposed. The structure characteristics of associated words were analyzed sufficiently, and a turning words dictionary, a Chinese emotion dictionary and a negative words dictionary were founded based on the existing dictionary. This paper considers the combination laws of negative words, adversative words and conjunctions into Micro-blog. In the experiments, we verify this method can analyze the sentiment polarity of transition sentences efficiently and also has higher classification accuracy.

This paper attempts to mine the hidden individual behavior pattern from the raw users' trajectory data. Based on DBSCAN, a novel spatio-temporal data clustering algorithm named Speed-based Clustering Algorithm was put forward to find slow-speed subtrajectories (i.e., stops) of the single trajectory that the user stopped for a longer time. The algorithm used maximal speed and minimal stopping time to compute the stops and introduced the quantile function to estimate the value of the parameter, which showed more effectively and accurately than DBSCAN and certain improved DBSCAN algorithms in the experimental results. In addition, after the stops are connected with POIs that have the characteristic of an information presentation, the paper designed a POIBehavior Mapping Table to analyze the user's activities according to the stopping time and visiting frequency, on the basis of which the user's daily regular behavior pattern can be mined from the history trajectories. In the end, LBS operators are able to provide intelligent and personalized services so as to achieve precise marketing in terms of the characteristics of the individual behavior.

An improved group search optimizer for multi-objective problems

In order to enhance the convergence ability of multi-objective group search optimizer (MGSO) and solution distribution of non-dominated Pareto set, a novel multiobjective group search optimizer based on multiple producers and crossover operator of genetic algorithm (MCGSO) is proposed in this paper. The producer of MCGSO is extended from one to multiple ones;the metropolis rule of simulation annealing algorithm is introduced into the search pattern of producers and rangers’ search strategies and crossover operator are combined. Experimental results demonstrate that MCGSO can effectively and efficiently solve multi-objective optimization problems compared with similar algorithms such as NSGA-II and other MGSOs. © 2015 ISSN 2185-2766.

MOEA/D with adaptive IWO for synthesizing phase-only reconfigurable linear arrays

In order to well solve the phase-only reconfigurable arrays synthesis problems, we introduce an adaptive strategy in invasive weed optimization (IWO), and integrate the adaptive IWO (AIWO) into the framework of MOEA/D, a popular multi-objective algorithm. Then, a new version of MOEA/D with adaptive IWO, named MOEA/D-AIWO is proposed in this paper for solving the synthesis problems. In MOEA/D-AIWO, the proposed adaptive strategy is adopted for improving search ability and balancing diversity and convergence. We introduce an adaptive standard deviation, which changes not only with the increase of evolution generations, but also exponentially with the fitness function value of each individual. This strategy improves the convergence rate and helps the seeds escape from local optimum. Taking advantage of the powerful searching ability of invasive weeds and well framework of MOEA/D, the overall performance of the proposed MOEA/D-AIWO is illustrated in solving two sets of phase-only reconfigurable arrays synthesis problems. Comparing results with MOEA/D-IWO (MOEA/D with original IWO) and MOEA/D-DE are also provided in this paper. © Tan et al.

Su-Field analysis, as one of the inventive problem solving tools, can be used to analyse and improve the efficacy of the technical system. Generally, the process of using Su-Field model to solve a specific inventive problem includes: building a Problem Model, mapping to a Generic Problem Model, finding a Generic Solution Model based on the corresponding inventive standard, and finally establishing and instantiating a Solution Model. As one of the most important phases of Su-Field analysis, the last step is normally implemented manually with the help of physical effects, which link generic technical functions with specific applications and systems. The physical effects compatible with the context of the specific problem should be chosen to assist the users to instantiate the Solution Model. However, the physical effects and the specific problems are built at different levels of abstraction, and it is difficult for the users to choose, that is, given a certain function, too many physical effects are chosen while with the detailed context of the problem, no physical effect is returned. This paper firstly proposes a new way of representing physical effects using the change of two states, that is, the couple of two states before and after applying physical effects. Then, the knowledge about using physical effects is formalized in OWL (Ontology Web Language) - an ontology language for semantic web, and the constraint knowledge, such as the condition to use each kind of physical effect, is formalized in SWRL (Semantic Web Rule Language) - a rule language. Finally, the reasoning process of using physical effects is performed with the support of JESS (Java Expert System Shell) rule engine. © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

While TRIZ is increasingly developing both in research and education, new users always encounter difficulties in their first attempts to practice it. In such situation, Altshuller's original matrix often appears as an "easy-to-begin- with" tool. However, while not being representative of what TRIZ really is, it continues to seduce new users, teachers and trainers. Several approaches to automate the use of the contradiction matrix have been proposed in literature, and researches on the automatic match between specific parameters of the artefact being considered and Altshuller's generalized parameters remains a topic of interest. In this paper, we propose a way to automate the proposal of equivalencies between a specific parameter and a generic parameter from the matrix. This method calculates the semantic distance between short texts, and uses it to fill the semantic gap between the specific parameters of the artefact and the generalized ones. Case-based reasoning is also used to improve the whole accuracy of the method. © 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Signed network is the network with both positive and negative links. Many real-world complex systems can be represented as signed networks, which are unbalanced according to structural balance theory. Unbalanced degree of signed networks is the distance to exact balance. Evaluating unbalanced degree of signed networks is a NP-hard problem, which has attracted many attentions. Many approaches are developed to compute structural balance. However, the results obtained by these approaches are unsatisfactory. In this study, the computation of unbalanced degree is convert to an optimization problem whose object function is come from the Hamiltonian of Edwards-Anderson spin glass model. We use a new Cultural Algorithm named CA-SNB to solve the optimization problem. The Cultural Algorithm, a new computable framework of Evolution Algorithm, has been successfully applied to many areas. In CA-SNB, the evolution of population space and belief space is based on Genetic Algorithm and greedy strategy respectively. Experiments on social and biological networks show the excellent effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

Generally, the process of using a Su-Field model to solve a specific inventive problem includes: building a Problem Model, mapping it to a Generic Problem Model, finding a Generic Solution Model based on the corresponding inventive standard and finally establishing and interpreting a Solution Model in real life. As one of the most important phases of the Su-Field analysis, the last step is normally implemented manually with the help of the pointers to physical effects, which link generic technical functions to specific applications and systems. The adequate pointer, compatible with the context of the specific problem, should be chosen to assist the users to instantiate the Solution Model. However, the pointers to physical effects and the specific problems are built at different levels of abstraction, so it is difficult for the users to choose among many eligible pointers to physical effects given a certain function. This paper proposes a heuristic method to use the pointers to physical effects based on ontology reasoning. The use of formal models, called ontologies, allows to formally define the concepts about the models and the effects and to apply logical reasoning on them. An inventive standards ontology and a physical effects ontology are firstly built to describe the process of Su- Field analysis, and then the logical reasoning rules are established according to a lexical dictionary, the analysis of the inventive standards and the physical effects. The lexical dictionary, based on WordNet, is built to improve the selection of the appropriate effect to apply. Finally, ontology reasoning is implemented to provide heuristic physical effects for the users.
