Recommendation system is one of the most important technologies applied in e-commerce. Similarity measuring method is fundamental to collaborative filtering algorithm, and traditional methods are inefficient especially when the user rating data are extremely sparse. Based on the outstanding characteristics of Cloud Model on the process of transforming a qualitative concept to a set of quantitative numerical values, a novel similarity measuring method, namely the likeness comparing method based on cloud model (LICM) is proposed in this paper. LICM compares the similarity of two users on knowledge level, which can overcome the drawback of attributes' strictly matching. This work analysis traditional methods throughly and puts forward a novel collaborative filtering algorithm, which is based on the LICM method. Experiments on typical data set show the excellent performance of the present collaborative filtering algorithm based on LICM, even with extremely sparsity of data.

Data grid is a kind of wide-area, distributed storage system. It can provide huge storage capacity. There are millions of files in data grid, distributed on hundreds of geographically dispersed storage resources. Given a unique logical identifier for desired content, replica location service can be used to determine the physical locations of one or more copies of this content. It is one of the most important components of data grid. Grid users are dynamic and widely distributed. To provide good performance to all the users, we proposed a design of dynamic replica location service. New replica location service providers can be easily constructed at any time and any location. Users that are away from any of the existing replica location service providers are allowed to construct their own replica location service providers. In this way, good performance can always be achieved. Such design can also enhance the stability of the data grid system and simplify the recovery from replica location service failure.

The process of selecting and implementing of reporting mechanisms for a cadastre information system is described in the paper from the point of view of system requirements. Many factors as user expectations, report usage, ability of report designing and modifying, possibility of presenting complex data in a readable way, costs and licensing as well as the performance and scalability required have been taken into account. Three versions of reporting mechanisms based on Crystal Reports, Microsoft Reporting Services and XML technology have been implemented and tested.

Manual portion and automatable aspects are often not explicitly differentiated and defined in most model driven softwaredevelopment (MDSD). This may hinder the advancement of the automation level of MDSD with problems such as defining the boundaries of automation tasks, and measuring the workload for model transformations (MT), etc. In common senses, the two parts are not distinguishable because they belong to irrespective subjective and objective conceptual areas respectively. By discussing this issue specifically for MDSD, a conceptual exclusion approach for differentiation based on an extended entity relationship (ER) model is proposed. A conceptual framework called MIB/CSD (manual work, inheritance, behaviorism/cardinality, static, dynamic) to implement the differentiation approach is designed. Feasibility of the differentiation work with regard to UML is discussed in both the theoretical aspect with the extended ER model and the practical aspect with some existing evidences
