3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Studies to enhance the management of electrical energy have gained considerable momentum in recent years. The question of how much energy will be needed in households is a pressing issue as it allows the management plan of the available resources at the power grids and consumer levels. A non-intrusive inference process can be adopted to predict the amount of energy required by appliances. In this study, an inference process of appliance consumption based on temporal and environmental factors used as a soft sensor is proposed. First, a study of the correlation between the electrical and environmental variables is presented. Then, a resampling process is applied to the initial data set to generate three other subsets of data. All the subsets were evaluated to deduce the adequate granularity for the prediction of the energy demand. Then, a cloud-assisted deep neural network model is designed to forecast short-term energy consumption in a residential area while preserving user privacy. The solution is applied to the consumption data of four appliances elected from a set of real household power data. The experiment results show that the proposed framework is effective for estimating consumption with convincing accuracy.

The system design and development of civil aircraft are often driven by requirement. In response to the problems of unclear methods and difficulty in establishing complete logical relationships between requirements in the requirements analysis process of civil aircraft systems, this paper proposes a function-based requirements analysis method (RAAD). Firstly, the concept and purpose of RAAD are introduced, and then the typical process of RAAD is elaborated in detail. Taking the comprehensive modular avionics system of civil aircraft as an example, the research and practice of requirement decomposition analysis method are carried out to sort out and analyze the typical types of functional and performance indicators of the system. Finally, summarize and evaluate the research methods, practical results, and practical outcomes. The results indicate that RAAD can better clarify the specific requirements of the system, establish clear logical relationships between upper and lower level requirements, and facilitate more comprehensive requirement development, confirmation, and verification work for complex systems. © Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics 2025.

Online Flow Scheduling in Virtualized Time-Sensitive Networks: A Joint Admission Control and VNF Embedding Approach

Time-sensitive networking (TSN) is proposed to satisfy the increasingly stringent demands of Industrial 4.0 for deterministic transmission. This is achieved by generating a series of centrally configured gate control lists to strictly restrict the forwarding time of arriving flows. However, such a centralized scheme requires prior information of all flows, severely impeding TSN from providing an online response to dynamic industrial applications. To solve this problem, we innovatively propose to use admission control (AC) to realize deterministic transmission in the virtualized TSN network. In this approach, AC is distributively executed on each node and link, whereby flows of applications are served by passing through a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). This distributed AC execution is regarded as a VNF embedding (VNE) process. Specifically, we propose a two-stage online framework, Smart Admission Control (SmartAC), to cater to dynamic applications. The first stage, referred to as the static stage, obtains a deterministic VNE solution by synthesizing AC decisions of individual TSN nodes and links. The second stage, referred to as the dynamic stage, fine-tunes VNE solutions obtained from the static stage to adapt to the harsh environment with insufficient resources or limited VNF migration budgets. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of SmartAC in improving response rate and resource utilization ratio. Notably, SmartAC reduces runtime by 90% compared to existing algorithms and exhibits robustness across different network topologies. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Puzzle mode graph learning with pattern composition relationships reasoning for defect detection of printed products

Patterns are designs composed of specific elements and are widely present in various printed products, representing particular design intentions. However, due to printing errors, pattern defects are extremely common in these products, significantly impacting their visual quality and market price, especially in high-value customized products like luxury apparel, premium wallpapers and decorative tiles. Traditional detection methods struggle to provide effective judgments with conventional visual cues purely and frequently fall short due to the intricate nature of the pattern composition. To overcome this challenge, we propose a puzzle mode graph learning method capable of reasoning about pattern composition relationships. This novel detection framework simulates the logical reasoning ability of humans in assembling unordered puzzle pieces into a complete pattern, thus surpassing spatial structure limitations and enabling structural defect detection in patterns. Specifically, a parametric representation function is integrated into convolutional layers to enhance the segmentation accuracy of shape masks. Then, cross-graph semantic matching rules are developed to dynamically re-encode the adjacency matrix, enabling the construction of an attribute relationship graph that explicitly describes pattern attributes, including pattern elements, color sequences and shape positions. Moreover, the defective reasoning mechanism calculates puzzle-mode scores to decouple semantic relationships of defect features, inferring anomalous node and edge weights affecting the graph structure, thereby facilitating more precise judgments of pattern defects. Comparative experiments conducted on a real printed defect dataset validate this method. Results demonstrate its effectiveness and robustness in identifying complex pattern defects, providing essential support for appearance quality control in high-end industrial products.

This paper addresses the finite-time consensus (FTC) issue for second-order multi-agent systems (MASs) with nonlinear disturbances. To tackle the challenges posed by increasingly complex communication environments, an innovative integral sliding-mode surface is designed using event-triggered control. Furthermore, the study explores communication constraints between the leader and followers, employing impulsive control to facilitate communication only at specific intervals. A novel hybrid integral sliding-mode control protocol is advanced for the second-order MASs, which effectively eliminates the "Zeno phenomenon" and notably reduces both communication frequency and energy consumption, thereby enhancing overall communication efficiency. Ultimately, the efficacy of the put forward protocol is verified through simulation examples including comparison experiment. © 2004-2012 IEEE.
